Waterpik-how!

Flowerfairy101 · 14/10/2022 09:14

Bought one as I'm crap at flossing. Its on the lowest pressure setting but I've soaked the bathroom and myself three times already! How on earth do I use it without doing this? Even if I bend really low over the sink the water bounces off my teeth and goes everywhere. Is this just what they do?? Help!

I tried mine in the shower still couldn't work it right

PhilistineWazzock · 14/10/2022 09:17

There was a thread on here a few years ago discussing this very problem.

I can't use one - it makes my gums go too tingly. We do have one and even DD has perfected the art of not covering the entire bathroom when she uses it. I'll see if I can find that thread for you.

I could only use mine in the shower for this reason. The least glamorous thing ever shooting water into your mouth while it hangs open with the ‘dirty’ water dribbling out Grin

I'm sure there was a more graphic one but there's a few tips on there.

The best way to explain it is you have to basically close your mouth around it, not entirely and then the water doesn’t shoot out so much, and dribbles into the sink. It’s not glamorous at all.

Yes that’s how I do it. No mess, no spraying the bathroom. It’s the best thing ever. Luke warm water is best.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 14/10/2022 09:28

You have to sort of shut your mouth around it, but let the water out every few seconds.

JustEatTheCake · 14/10/2022 09:31

Close your mouth for starters. Secondly without the water going look in the mirror and figure out the movement of the pik around the gum line, then close your mouth and repeat the action so you replicate the movement and feel of where it is meant to be going. Then turn the water on. I do my gums and in-between each tooth too so a basic U movement on each tooth.

On mine you can rotate the pik using the little connector wheel at the top for angles within your mouth. It just takes practise.

JustEatTheCake · 14/10/2022 09:32

Agree with nightmare you let the water dribble out of your mouth, oh and definitely look down into the sink so the water falls out your mouth and not down your chin.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 14/10/2022 09:34

Once you get the hang of it they’re quite good. Not as good as proper flossing, as my dentist never fails to remind me, but better than nothing.

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 14/10/2022 09:39

I couldn’t get the hang of mine so I binned it.

Even aside from the spraying everywhere (which I acknowledge is my lack of skill), it didn’t seem to actually do anything. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sparklingbrook · 14/10/2022 10:41

Floss/Tepe brushe and Waterpik then electric toothbrush. My regime.

Flowerfairy101 · 14/10/2022 10:52

Thanks everyone, I hadn't even considered that I might need to close my mouth whilst using it Grin

I think they should come with a big sticker on the box saying 'SHUT YOUR MOUTH' but that might not be great for sales.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/10/2022 13:49

The air ones are better but tbh I prefer flossing with tape.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/10/2022 14:08

Head right over looking down at the sink
Waterpik in mouth with mouth closed loosely around it then switch on and open mouth loosely again

FinallyHere · 14/10/2022 14:17

I would not be without mine. Agree there is a knack to keeping lips closed and letting water trickle out. It's also great on top setting to blast any scale away from around the base of the taps. Win win.

I do Tape, water oil then brush. Disclosing table to check all clear. Just magic.

I got mind at the beginning of lockdown, so had not seen the hygienist for two treats when I finally got a dentist appointment for a 'scrape and polish '

Audible gasp when they first looked at my reasonably clean teeth was audible and made the whole pfaff totally worth it. I have been moved from six monthly to annual visits to the hygienist. Online any blood emmg db hygienist does their thing.

Flowerfairy101 · 14/10/2022 15:53

Tried with mouth shut and it worked! Whoop.
