My favourite detective. My children teased me for years every time the music came on theyd groan and say OH no Bloody Jessica Fletcher

I watched an episode this afternoon. I'm sad, we were blessed with a wonderful actress for many decades

Oh no 😢 I loved Angela Lansbury in Bed knobs and broomsticks & as Mrs Pott in Beauty and the Beast. RIP

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/10/2022 21:18

Everyone remembers her for Jessica Fletcher but she was also Broadway royalty - 5 Tony Awards. She held the record for ages.

AlternativelyWired · 11/10/2022 21:20

I loved all her brooches and the way there was a Boston fern in every episode of MSW. Usually on a pedestal.

batshitballs · 11/10/2022 21:26

Ahh she was in National Velvet. Loved that film

RoseAndRose · 11/10/2022 21:27

I'm probably more gutted about Angela Lansbury passing away than the Queen to be honest

Same age

Iknownothing · 11/10/2022 21:27

So sad 😞
This was just 6 years ago
Beauty and the Beast

My absolute favourite ever episode of Murder She Wrote was 'Murder in a Minor Key'. It was pure joy, albeit utterly bonkers. It nearly stumped our super sleuth. A pianist shot with an arrow whilst seated at a grand piano in a high-rise apartment with the door locked from the inside. How on earth could that happen? There was no way in to the apartment, no way of the murderer escaping through the window. So how, I hear you ask! This case would have tested the entire homicide section of the FBI...but not our Ms Fletcher. It didn't take her long to seduce that the murderer had set up an elaborate crossbow mechanism concealed within a drinks cabinet that would automatically fire a deadly arrow straight through the heart of the pianist when triggered by the vibrations a very specific chord in the minor key. To say that the plot was a tad convoluted is an understatement. But it clearly presented no challenge for our amazingly intuitive Ms Fletcher. If ever you get a chance to watch it, I would highly recommend it for its comedy value alone.

Deduce, not seduce

Oioicaptain · 11/10/2022 21:32

@Prettypaisleyslippers

😂😂😂
It was probably the partner of one of her many nieces!

diamondpony80 · 11/10/2022 21:37

So sad to hear this. I always loved her as she reminded me so much of my own nan. I thought of her recently (and Dick Van Dyke too) when the Queen passed as I knew they were a similar age.

theworldismyoyster2022 · 11/10/2022 21:39

I was totally obsessed with murder she wrote. Such great memories of a fab lazy Sunday watching back to back episodes. May she rest in peace.

MissisBee · 11/10/2022 21:50

I'm so sad! I loved bedknobs and broomsticks as a child, and murder she wrote was staple viewing during my GCSEs (always had a break for that and neighbours, then back to the books!).
Someone mentioned Dick Van Dyke there too - diagnosis murder was the A level viewing. I hope he's being well looked after, not sure I can take the loss of another well loved nonagenarian!

I loved how she was always visiting nieces and nephews. How many nieces and nephews did she have?! And why did any of them invite her to their christening/Hawaiian wedding/tap dance recital when her presence almost definitely ensures somebody will die!

She had an amazing life, sad to hear she’s gone. She had a really dignified presence on screen.

Watch the classic film "Gaslight" - where we get the word from. She's in that. And she's excellent.

I hadn't realised that was her!

Was she ever Miss Marple?

"The Mirror Crack'd (1980) - IMDb" m.imdb.com/title/tt0081163/

When miss Marple met Elizabeth Taylor

No 😢

I don't want hear the news anymore!

MoggyP · 11/10/2022 22:39

@justasking111

Thank you!!

Roarsomemore · 11/10/2022 22:55

Big fan here too. Maintenance Phase podcast did an episode on her wellness video. She came out pretty unscathed which can't be said for most of the people featured. Most people seem to have a soft spot for AL.

Angela Lansbury isn't in Gaslight. You must have imagined it .

ShirleyHolmes · 11/10/2022 23:01

She is in Gaslight; she played Nancy, she was 19 and was nominated for best supporting actress Oscar.

ShirleyHolmes · 11/10/2022 23:03

Yes she was Miss Marple once - early 80s I think. I preferred Joan Hickson as Miss Marple though.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/10/2022 23:03

Loved her, legend.
A lot of her early stuff was surprisingly edgy.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks, though: just perfect.

ShirleyHolmes · 11/10/2022 23:04

Sorry will stop waffling about her now but I LOVED her in Mary Poppins returns as the Balloon lady. She just lit up a screen and a stage.

AutumnCrow · 11/10/2022 23:09

Everyone who met her spoke so highly of her.
