If there is a ‘too old’. Just your opinion please.

Depends if they are in a group with younger children. Not at all if no adult.

rumbypumby · 11/10/2022 21:38

We always get a group of teenagers at the door every year who must be 14/15 now

Mine are 8(almost 9), 5 and 1 and we are definitely still all trick or treating age

Definitely pre-teen. I've never seen groups of teenagers Confused
I'd find it weird that they wanted to knock on doors for sweeties, tbh!

Blix · 11/10/2022 21:44

I have always loathed it. Never let my DC do it and hate it when kids knock at the door begging.

Discovereads · 11/10/2022 21:45

I thought it was 13 and tried to convince my DC to give it up. But I felt like such a misery guts. So I caved and they kept it up until 18. Although, to be fair some years they went to a costume party instead of trick or treating from age 14 onwards. Often they’d be taking little ones out too (younger siblings, friends younger siblings), so I thought why not.

@Chuckles94 @fallinover
We have always handed out goodies and she’s looking forward to doing that this year now she’s older. Since she was 2 nearly 3 she has loved A nightmare before Christmas - she called it Christmas Halloween and still does 🥰 I managed to get a Sally costume for her and we already have a white pumpkin to do Jack 🎃
Just need to forget what that woman said or I’ll just let her knock on my mums and cousins who live a little further down my road 😂

Secondary unless accompanying younger siblings

Jalepenojello · 11/10/2022 21:46

I’m not bothered age wise really - lack of parental supervision is what I dislike and the door won’t be opened if it’s just unattended kids.

Johnnysgirl · 11/10/2022 21:48

18 😱 Why??

ReformedWaywardTeen · 11/10/2022 21:49

I told 15 y/o DD they can't go this year as they're too old. So the enterprising beggar has offered to accompany one of our friends younger two children, plus another friends 11 y/o son instead. Knowing full well that if dressed up they will still get the usual impressive bounty of free sweets.

I have to admire the ingenuity.

14 y/o DS can't be arsed this year as apparently it's too cold and he'd rather play some game he's currently obsessed with.

I don't mind who knocks at ours on the night, I do the house up mad and get dressed up too to open the door. I really enjoy it. As long as the older ones are polite I can't complain and we've never had a situation of being egged or having our pumpkin smashed.

CherryLongIsland · 11/10/2022 21:51

I'm happy to give sweets to anyone who knocks.

schnubbins · 11/10/2022 21:51

I was told 'well you are a bit long on the tooth for this' at age 13 (1980).It was quite embarrassing.

MinervaTerrathorn · 11/10/2022 21:52

I'd say 4 to 13, unless taking a younger child.

MinervaTerrathorn · 11/10/2022 21:55

I'd rather give sweets to teens who have made the effort with costumes than mums coming knocking in broad daylight with toddlers who have no clue what's happening

This. Fucking hate trick or treaters.

Bloody hell. There’s some Halloween bah humbugs here! As long as everyone is enjoying it, what’s the problem?

The problem is people being disturbed in their own homes all night by kids begging for sweets because of a bullshit tradition.

Ballocks · 11/10/2022 22:00

Probably age 4-13 as well.

If an older child has made an effort I’m happy to dish out some sweets in the spirit of things but I LOATHE any age individual who grabs handfuls and even worse is when the parents have escorted and watch them do it. I say very loudly “please take 1 so as not to be greedy” and evil stare the parents.

Dou8hnuts · 11/10/2022 22:00

There’s a lot of older gangs that pass through our area as we live a stones throw away from a skate park. Even I don’t feel safe walking around after dark. If kids are trick or treating with a parent we open the door and give treats to kids and parents. If it’s a gang of teens we don’t answer. We haven’t had any knock the last trot years so I think the message has got to them because my neighbours do the same. This year my kids want to go out sp we will take some treats with us and pass them to anybody out trick or treating because my eldest 5 loves to give them out whereas youngest 4 loves to look for pumpkins on houses indicating they are celebrating Halloween and happy for visitors

Guising is fine until about 15/16.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/10/2022 22:08

I don't care as long as they are happy with sweets.

Around here they just knock on doors with pumpkins outside

Cwcwbird · 11/10/2022 22:13

My eldest 2 stopped around 14. My 12 year old is going with her friends. Mine know never to knock on any house without decorations. I love having trick or treaters knocking, I don't mind older teens as long as they're polite and have made an effort to dress up.
