I have always been a big fan of candles and burners as i love my house smelling nice. Just wondering if there are some really nice smelling fragrances that you would like

I like wax melts, and have tried some of the codangle candles, they are made by a UK company and made using soy wax so are non toxic (you can buy them from amazon) I have a vanilla ice cream scented one at the moment…

I also use a spray mop daily on floors with a perfumed disinfectant (zoflora or fabulousa), and sometimes spray sofa cushions and the rug with watered down fabric conditioner (1 cap full of fabric conditioner in a spray bottle full of water).

Fresh air .I just open my windows and costs nothing.

That doesn't make it smell nice, it just makes it not smell bad.

Cook a curry. Love the smell of my house after curry night.

Open your windows. Hoover thoroughly. My house smells of the nearby sea or cut grass, depending on wind direction.

Following, I'd love a nice smelling house but don't like lighting candles unless it's the evening as I know I'd get distracted and forget about them. I wonder about diffusers but want to find a good quality one, I got one from the supermarket that gave me a headache, I had to throw it away

PeloFondo · 10/10/2022 18:29

Candlewick greens wax melts
Botanical candle company Reed diffusers
Febreze small spaces air fresheners for bathrooms

Along with fresh air, regularly washing blankets/coats etc

Yeah if I lived there I would do that. My options are the smell of skunk or the house opposite burning plastic Grin

FourOclock · 10/10/2022 18:30

Opening the windows/doors here just makes the house smell like alpaca/horse poo/slurry/general farm smells Grin we always have doors open but that brings in worse smells sometimes

ginslinger · 10/10/2022 18:31

open windows, coffee and baking

nixnjj · 10/10/2022 18:36

Essential oils in a diffuser. I mix mine to suit my moods or help with health. Use them for cleaning peppermint wash round doors and windows keeps spiders away

sittingonacornflake · 10/10/2022 18:37

Neom well-being pod. Also find it quite relaxing.

Midnights · 10/10/2022 18:40

I love essential oil diffusers - neom and white company are both fab! A simmer pot is amazing too - basically a pot on the hob, full of water and scented items (oranges, clove, cinnamon sticks, star anise etc) and just gently simmered. Room sprays work well too, I use diptyque ones and spritz a few sprays before bed and it smells amazing when coming down the next day.

I do like to clear the air through the house with open windows for at least half an hour a day. Feels fresher even if smell doesn't change

I have a spaniel so v aware of house and don't want it to smell doggy. So my tips are:

Make your own shake n vac with bicarbonate of soda and fragrance or essential oils. Lemon and peppermint or lavender both smell lovely. Just sprinkle on and leave before hoovering up.

Love sand and fog candles from TK maxx. Not overpowering and don't smell artificial at all.

Washable rug and sofa covers!

Rocklobstershell · 10/10/2022 18:42

Replica By the fireside candle - pricey but unbeatable for creating a delicious cosy autumnal atmosphere. Lasts ages too!

Cherryblossoms85 · 10/10/2022 18:42

Next does a nice range of diffusers. There's a nice neutral one called island something or a more marmite patchouli one.

Someone bought me one of these and I feel like it's the best thing ever! 😁

@PeloFondo do we live on the same street? 😂 I was thinking exactly the same thing, don't fancy the whiff of eau de weed wafting in!

SophieJo · 10/10/2022 19:01

I love the smell of fresh coffee and lenor when drying clothes inside.

Badnewsoracle · 10/10/2022 19:01

Depends on your definition of "nice" I think. I personally prefer a house to smell neutral, of nothing. I don't like it when it smells of something, anything so candles, wax melts, cleaning products are a big no for me, it's not "nice" to me.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 10/10/2022 19:09

I open windows and really like glass and wick wax melts/diffusers. They smell very posh without the price tag

Begoniasforever · 10/10/2022 19:14

Jo malone in my experience does the strongest smelling candles and the best. I use one in my hallway. Next up is diptyque. I’m using the benjoin one right now. It’s lovely and soft ambery smell

esential oil diffusers are excellent too, buy a cheap one from Amazon but some nice essential oils. The diffuser is irrelevant it’s the oil that counts

swimlyn · 10/10/2022 19:15

Candles and chemicals are bad for you.

Open the windows if good weather, otherwise leave shut.

Get rid of/clean up any smelly messes/items.

Sacredheart7 · 10/10/2022 19:15

I put a capful of fabric softener in a full sink of boiling hot water and leave for an hour. The fumes circulate and make my home smell of freshly washed clothes. It's lovely.

Moonopoly · 10/10/2022 19:26

I put unstoppables in socks and place them around the house (out of reach of kids!)
