Harry Brown - I absolutely hated it and felt depressed for days, probably because those kinds of gangs are real and only 100 miles down the road. I was especially hurt watching the two beginning scenes, where they shoot a Mum walking her baby in a park just for a laugh and when they beat to death an innocent man trying to stop his car being vandalised. It reminded me of a particularly well known case 15 odd years ago (GN) 💔

Midnight Express - when they hung the cat purely out of spite because they knew the prisoner loved it. I can't watch it

Dumbo - when the Mean Elephants reject him and he's crying by his bucket of water. Fucking kills me

Beautiful Boy, it was heartbreaking.

theDudesmummy · 07/10/2022 18:06

A Clockwork Orange

Facecream · 07/10/2022 18:08

White God - I have never cried so much over a film

Funny Games
Sinister - both freaked me out so much.

In many respects anything Hanecke does: Benny’s Tape 🤯, Funny Games, The Piano Teacher, Cache(Hidden), Happy Ending). All supremely disturbing.

Once Were Warriors
The Road

'I, Daniel Blake'. The Guardian did an excellent write up of it, if you haven't seen it - www.theguardian.com/film/2016/sep/11/i-daniel-blake-ken-loach-director-film-movie-benefits-system

ChakaKhanfan · 07/10/2022 18:09

Midsommar- terrifying, thrilling and disturbing.

Trailer

LimpBiskit · 07/10/2022 18:09

Cherry Tree Lane. Home invasion, rape, murder and so casual. Truly haunting.

tiggergoesbounce · 07/10/2022 17:19

Sleepers- i still think it was the most upsetting film i have seen.

Me too - seeing Kevin Bacon in the EE adverts reminds me of it every time.

Latenightreader · 07/10/2022 18:10

Oh I hated Harry Brown. I saw it at the cinema with a friend, and if I’d been on my own I would have walked out.

I went to see The Cruicible at the cinema. I was about 15 and cried so hard that people turned round. I’d been badly bullied when I was younger and the sheer injustice was painful.

Decorativefire · 07/10/2022 18:10

Not a film but It's a Sin - cried pretty much constantly from about 30 mins in to first episode.

Bananalanacake · 07/10/2022 18:12

A Black Mirror film, Metalhead, very depressing. I found it all very frustrating as it is not explained what caused the apocalypse.

MilliwaysUniverse · 07/10/2022 18:13

The Fault in Our Stars

Oh Christ. I can remember sitting on the sofa with my mother watching that when I was a child. Never cried so much. The pair of us were wrecks.

Oh yes, I remember watching that too when I was at school and wept like a baby. Ditto Champ about the boxer. Sooooo sad

Is this the one about the boys in New York that go to borstal? If so, I agree

Also Midnight Express

mrsm43s · 07/10/2022 18:13

Dear Zachery. An incredibly moving, but deeply sad documentary film.

Butterfly44 · 07/10/2022 18:14

Schindler's list, pianist, boy in the stripped pyjamas....similar themes but upsetting.

Univalve · 07/10/2022 18:14

I’ll take your Dead Man’s Shoes and I’ll raise you Paddy Considine’s directorial debut Tyrannosaur. Relentless.

Also, Kes broke me.

astuz · 07/10/2022 18:14

I don't tend to cry at films, but the one that gets me every time, is UP, when his wife dies, and the music is so sad as well.

The other film that brings out all sorts of sad emotions, is the Deerhunter, my favourite ever film.

Dream of a Life about a lady who was found dead in her flat in London. She had been dead for a couple of years and no one had noticed. Her TV was still on.

Such a sad film but the interviews with those who loved her showed that people did / had cared.

Made into a concept album by the musical artists Steven Wilson called "Hand.Cannot.Erase."

The whole thing is a comment as to how you really can "disappear" in some cities, and the systems in place that fail.

@ladygindiva Dead Man's Shoes, yes .. just awful, a harrowing watch.

I watched No child of Mine off the back of a similar thread, I wish I hadn't because of how awfully sad it was. It's a true story and it thankfully ends well. Just heartbreaking when she ends up in the childrens home and is assaulted there too. I think a lot of this sort of thing went on back in the 70's / 80's.

Similar to No child of Mine, Lilya 4 ever - the saddest film I've ever seen. I cried throughout and couldn't stop. I would like to watch it again and pay more attention to the characters as it is a fantastic film, however don't think I'll be able to. I think about Lilya now and then as if she were a real person., then again it is a true story! Can't remember the name of the actual girl. God rest her soul. ❤️

Yes yes to Lilya 4 Ever, utterly heartbreaking, I watched it once and don’t think I could watch it again 😢

The Mist. I just felt sick after watching the ending. Having read the book, I was not at all expecting what happens in the film.

The Netflix series?

The Lion King when mufasa dies, I hate it and I hate Disney for making it.

That was based on Hamlet, it was Shakespeare's fault

I lived a few doors down from the director of this film and I’m only name dropping this now as I’m currently wearing a jumper that was part of the costumes for the main character!!!!!!!!!

I was so pleased to see your comment because it’s a magnificent film but also so I could bring out my jumper comment!

puffylovett · 07/10/2022 18:19

Oh gosh I, Daniel Blake had me sobbing, such a heartbreaking film.
watership down also.
and the one that’s stuck with me and I’ll never watch again, The Human Centipede, still makes me absolutely shudder to think about it!

boobot1 · 07/10/2022 18:19

Nocturnal animals and girl with the dragon tatoo are disturbing. Pans Labyrinth, but love it. Passion of the Christ, its so graphic.

MuthaHubbard · 07/10/2022 18:20
