Harry Brown - I absolutely hated it and felt depressed for days, probably because those kinds of gangs are real and only 100 miles down the road. I was especially hurt watching the two beginning scenes, where they shoot a Mum walking her baby in a park just for a laugh and when they beat to death an innocent man trying to stop his car being vandalised. It reminded me of a particularly well known case 15 odd years ago (GN) 💔

Midnight Express - when they hung the cat purely out of spite because they knew the prisoner loved it. I can't watch it

Dumbo - when the Mean Elephants reject him and he's crying by his bucket of water. Fucking kills me

Monsters ball, when he tells his dad he always loved him, I can’t watch that film

DeeDeeTheDragon · 07/10/2022 21:45

Awakenings. It features some wonderful acting by Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. I struggle to watch the last 10 minutes as it is desperately sad.

Marley and Me. Oh how I wept. Unfortunately I was on a plane at the time.

ET. When ET turns white and it looks like he will die. I've no idea why, it just gets me.

Toy Story 3. When the toys accept their fate in the incinerator. And then when Andy gives Woody and the other toys to Molly. The last 20 minutes of that film is gruelling!

Wigglypasta · 07/10/2022 21:45

Hachi, a dog's tale.
Could not stop crying.

Agree with many already mentioned. A recent one that’s upset me for different reasons is “Blonde” on Netflix.

Marilyn/Norma was a victim of child sexual abuse, which continued through her career. Some of the scenes, especially the one with President Kennedy, are just absolutely awful in my view. For a film exposing Marilyn’s abuse, it sure seems like (in usual Netflix style) they have gratuitously showed explicit acts and in doing so exploited the actress. I was really shocked how (mock) graphic it was and the voiceover - just awful awful awful.

Don't Worry Darling

I haven't seen it, but my parents said it was pure porn. Apparently in one scene she had sex with two tandom guys in the cinema whilst watching Niagara. The actress is Spanish and has never seen a Marilyn film. I don't think it's a winner 😬

Muddywaters1 · 07/10/2022 21:52

I looked up the Serbian film and I don’t know why anyone would watch that at all? It’s vile just reading about it.

Blackcatsarethebest · 07/10/2022 22:00

Another one I’ve blanked out. The original last house on the left - stupidly watched it a few weeks after I was raped. Never again

OkPedro · 07/10/2022 22:00

@wigglypasta

I cried for days after Hitachi. I still feel sad now thinking about that dog 😭

FourTeaFallOut · 07/10/2022 22:02

Irreversible. The only movie I have had to fast forward through.

birthdaytou · 07/10/2022 22:03

Agree with requiem for a dream. can still remember the ending now only saw it once and that was probably at least 15 years ago.

RedRosie · 07/10/2022 22:04

As @FreddyHG says, way up thread When the wind blows.

Unbearable.

PurpleNebula84 · 07/10/2022 22:05

The film that absolutely wrenches my heart every day time is Any Day Now with Alan Cumming - I love it, but I'm also an absolute wreck by the end - there's very few films I cry at, but the other two I can think of that bring me to tears have slight joy and hope too - Any Day Now, I feel broken x

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 07/10/2022 22:10

Funny Games… I walked out of the cinema because I found it so disturbing.
Many years later I looked up the plot online, thinking that it must have got better, but no, the whole thing was just unrelentingly awful.

I just watched this yesterday. It hits you over the head with bleakness from the beginning, doesn't it? Five minutes into the film and there's attempted child murder.

bigblueyonder · 07/10/2022 22:13

Into the Wild...especially as it is based on a true story. Tragic ending

SomeSquirrelsAreBlack · 07/10/2022 22:16

Life is Beautiful. It’s an Italian holocaust film. I lay awake all night crying my eyes out.

I watched it and loved it but went to bed about ten minutes before it ended because I could see what was going to happen and couldn’t bear to watch. At the point I left there was still the possibility of a happy(ish) ending so I decided that I’d prefer to imagine that.
