Harry Brown - I absolutely hated it and felt depressed for days, probably because those kinds of gangs are real and only 100 miles down the road. I was especially hurt watching the two beginning scenes, where they shoot a Mum walking her baby in a park just for a laugh and when they beat to death an innocent man trying to stop his car being vandalised. It reminded me of a particularly well known case 15 odd years ago (GN) 💔

Midnight Express - when they hung the cat purely out of spite because they knew the prisoner loved it. I can't watch it

Dumbo - when the Mean Elephants reject him and he's crying by his bucket of water. Fucking kills me

and the House of Sand and Fog with Ben Kingsley - the ending is brutal.

Earrin · 07/10/2022 21:05

Olivia Coleman - Tyrannosaur

It's a film about a redemption, loneliness, despair, friendship, salvation.

It's also a film about domestic violence and it's horrifying. It's never left me.

CoffeeLover90 · 07/10/2022 21:06

Oh and king Kong, because I know that's exactly what humans would do if they came across a creature like that. Cage him, use him for money and as soon as he tries to break free, shoot the poor thing.
And Edward scissor hands, he was so close to his happy ending.

lemons44 · 07/10/2022 21:06

Oh and also it really upset me when Tom Hanks loses Wilson in Cast Away

Threebutterflies · 07/10/2022 21:13

Funny Games (the Austrian original, haven't seen the remake)

A Clockwork Orange

Funny Games was terrible. I watched it once, hoping that the ending would be different to what it turned out to be, and then sent it straight to the charity shop.

Horribly disturbing film

RaRaRaspoutine · 07/10/2022 21:16

Interesting to see Heavenly Creatures on here, that’s my comfort film along with Cracks and Withnail and I. Not sure what that says about me!! I used to love all three films as a uni student so maybe that’s it.

Heyisforhorses · 07/10/2022 21:18

Alex the Life of a Child, I watched it about 40 years ago and still remember how upset I was.

Who will love my children?
Sybil
The Burning Bed

The Jeffrey dahmer series has just done me in. And true. No no no

I watched the first 10 minutes - couldn't watch any more.

The police officers' behaviour was horrific.

Boreded · 07/10/2022 21:24

How bad is the audition…I’m partway through but he has only just been out with the woman on one date.

It can’t possibly be as bad as ‘A Serbian Film’ which I genuinely hope nobody ever watches because it was AWFUL

Grassynoel · 07/10/2022 21:24

Requiem For A Dream. That film really messed with me.

Dreamingof3 · 07/10/2022 21:25

Miss you already 😢

Boreded · 07/10/2022 21:25

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/10/2022 17:21

Requiem for a dream and The Audition.

I’m much more careful these days.

Sorry I meant to tag you in my message above

I lived a few doors down from the director of this film and I’m only name dropping this now as I’m currently wearing a jumper that was part of the costumes for the main character!!!!!!!!!

I was so pleased to see your comment because it’s a magnificent film but also so I could bring out my jumper comment!

I recall the original news item about that poor woman and it haunted me. When I saw that her story had been turned into a film I hoped her story would be told with respect and sensitivity and it was. Desperately sad and such an indictment of how modern life is so isolating for some.

tableanadchairs · 07/10/2022 21:28

Truely madly deeply
goosebumps every time

JeanMarie · 07/10/2022 21:28

The Passion of the Christ ....I watched it in the cinema and ugly cried the whole way through it. I'm not even religious.
Tyrannasaurus.....Peter Mullen and Olivia Coleman gave absolutely heart stopping performamces.
The absolute worst was a French film called Mouchette. I actually wish I'd never watched it....it haunted me for a very long time.

I was SO hoping someone else had watched this and mentioned it. I was so traumatised by Eden Lake and no-one I know has watched it! You should have seen the end …or maybe not!

I thought it was an excellent film...but so disturbing. I was filled with anxiety the full time!

Pinkandgreentrousers · 07/10/2022 21:33

Decorativefire · 07/10/2022 18:13

Oh yes, I remember watching that too when I was at school and wept like a baby. Ditto Champ about the boxer. Sooooo sad

Champ and Who will my Children are the ones that made me cry the most

CarolShields · 07/10/2022 21:34

For Sama, a non-fictional account of the uprising and siege of Aleppo.

Watched it in a cinema, all was still around me & I found it really difficult to be quiet, was having to blow my nose etc so often. Utterly harrowing.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 07/10/2022 17:24

I saw Precious for the first time a few weeks ago, it was a hard watch for sure.

Same, this still haunts me years later.

Impostacoffee · 07/10/2022 21:39

Angela’s ashes, everyone kept saying how great it was. I think it makes it worst knowing it’s based on a true story. I love the green mile but find the electrocution scene very hard to watch.

newkillerstar · 07/10/2022 21:39

Earthlings, its a documentary film about animal cruelty/abuse, extremely disturbing

JohnsShirt · 07/10/2022 21:42

LaddieCthulu · 07/10/2022 21:01

Mysterious skin

Oof, that's shocking, brilliant acting though

itsnotmeitsu · 07/10/2022 21:42

@YellowRedBlueGreen > Pretty traumatic > 'Strange Holiday', also, 'Went the Day Well'; both old films. I don't think I've ever seen a Disney cartoon film, but your description of Dumbo > 'Dumbo - when the Mean Elephants reject him and he's crying by his bucket of water. Fucking kills me', means I will never watch it - it makes me cry just thinking about it 😢

justasking111 · 07/10/2022 21:44

One flew over the cuckoo's nest. Could never watch it again.
