Five year olds soft play party - picnic boxes

Punkypinky · 06/10/2022 16:35

Im throwing my first party for my dd on Saturday she's turning 5. In a soft play at a leisure centre. Doing picnic boxes does this sound ok for the contents?
3 half sandwiches- 1 tuna, 1 cheese, 1 jam
a babybel
a satsuma
a frube
mini cheddars
organix flapjack bites
Is that too much dairy? (No one has an allergy). Anything else I should throw in?

thank you wise mumsnet

Sounds perfect. Just make sure there's plenty of water / squash available too. Soft play is thirsty work 😂

emmathedilemma · 06/10/2022 16:38

I'd ditch the satsuma cos they're fiddly to peel and the peel will be everywhere. I'm not sure how many 5yr olds will eat sandwiches, particularly tuna. I'd stick to cheese or cheese spread and jam which are easier to make. Swap the cheddars for pombears (or supermarket version).

Punkypinky · 06/10/2022 16:38

Thanks x was planning on just having jugs of squash/ water so they can come grab it when they're ready.

add a couple of carrot and cucumber stick and some cherry tomatoes maybe?

MarianneOnAMotorcycle · 06/10/2022 16:39

chocolate and crisps!
It is a party, after all.

emmathedilemma · 06/10/2022 16:39

with kids that age I'd buy fruit shoots or bottles of water to reduce the risk of spillages

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/10/2022 16:39

Sounds nice. Maybe a small bunch of grapes or apple instead of satsuma, just for ease.

They don't get eaten. They're to make the parents feel better, but they're just wasted 🤷🏻‍♀️

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 06/10/2022 16:40

Sounds good: I'd lose the organix for some sort of small biscuit/cake. I also think I'd replace tuna with ham

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/10/2022 16:40

And maybe some chocolate buttons - it’s a party 😁

Punkypinky · 06/10/2022 16:41

Thanks everyone I'm torn between "it's a party fill it with snacks" and "it's meant to be lunch so needs something proper". I see what you mean re. The satsuma but they are dd's favourite thing.

Oh God NO TUNA. The smell is worse than death. I hate tuna. It's evil and the thought of abandoned half eaten stinky tuna sandwiches makes me want to hurl.

moonypadfootprongs · 06/10/2022 16:43

Are you definitely allowed to take food in? Some of these places can be a bit funny if you don't buy their (over priced, crap) food!

Punkypinky · 06/10/2022 16:43

I may have to do dd her own with tuna in and give the others ham then. Lol that's a strong reaction to tuna 😝

Yes been to parties there before and you bring yr own

Or you could include some cheese slices (Babybel) and cream cracker snakpaks in lieu of the sandwiches.
This was my favourite lunchbox lunch at that age.

Needmorelego · 06/10/2022 16:45

@Punkypinky sorry but I really hate the smell 😂
And it lingers..... blurrgh.

emeraldcity2000 · 06/10/2022 16:46

We kept the sandwiches separate at that age in brown paper bags and let them choose - ham was a lot more popular than cheese and no one wanted hummus! That's my only help!

AriettyHomily · 06/10/2022 16:47

2 half sandwiches

Ditch the satsumas, if you want fruit get some fruit kebab sticks, no 5 yo will be interested in a peeling a satsuma at soft play, ditto the babybel.

party rings are a prerequisite.

Swap the cheddars for some pom bears or chip stix.

It's a party!

I have never been to a soft play that lets you bring your own food for a party.

InDubiousBattle · 06/10/2022 16:59

I tend to prefer a buffet instead of boxes.
Sandwiches (half each, they hardly eat anything proper at parties!)- jam, ham, cheese, tuna
Sausage rolls
Crisps
Pizza slices
Party rings
Biscuits, chocolate and sweets for afters.
Fruit shoots and water.

If you want satsumas I'd peel and put the segments in a bowl rather than the whole fruit.

Not Babybel! I meant Dairylea slices. They're really easy to open and fold in half to put on a cracker.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/10/2022 19:40

I'd just do two sandwiches, cheese and jam then they are all veggie. They won't get eaten anyway.

No grapes, cherry tomatoes or other choking risk foods when they are hyper and less likely to sit properly. I wouldn't bother with fruit or veg at all. Maybe carrot and cucumber sticks at a push.

Packet of crisps.

Cupcake or mini packet or party rings

Frube

Drink with a lid

VerveClique · 06/10/2022 19:45

Make life easy for yourself!!

Sausage roll or veggie alternative
Pom Bears
Party rings/ mini cookies
frube
fruit shoot

MrsMagWeary · 06/10/2022 19:48

If you do small water bottles of fruit shoots, label them. There will be loads with just a sip out of them.

VerveClique · 06/10/2022 19:49

Exactly @MrsMagWeary i have also done this, just take a sharpie!
