Nurses, how will you vote?

AndSoFinally · 06/10/2022 06:09

The RCN are balloting members over strike action. They are looking for a 5% increase in pay over and above inflation.

Will you ballot to strike?

(DOI: I'm a medic and I would be 100% behind you)

I'm a Health Care Professional and I've worked alongside nurses throughout my career.
I absolutely support them to strike. The working conditions are appalling.

Ovasaurus · 06/10/2022 18:54

100% back the strike. 30 years in the NHS. Fed up, burnt out and want a better future for my colleagues and the patients we care for.

ShirleyHolmes · 06/10/2022 18:59

I’m a Social Worker not a nurse.

I fully support them striking and hope they vote in favour. I support all of the current or intended strike action, eg rail staff and so on.
if they voted in my sector I would vote to strike; I earn broadly the same as I did 18 years ago and in real terms of course much less.

I was a nurse for 40 years, retired for 9 years now. I would definitely strike. We “worked to grade” in the 1980’s/90’s after being downgraded from E to D staff nurses on nights. We refused to take the drug keys and it cost a fortune paying overtime - they soon capitulated

I remember it well!

100% for strike action. While pay has stagnated the main issue is working conditions, it’s become the norm to have no break on your shift and to never ever leave on time. Rare occasions you have enough staff they’re moved to plug a gap elsewhere further destroying morale. We are broken

Arriettyborrower · 06/10/2022 19:06

I am a senior nurse and will vote to strike. I won’t be able to take part as I manage urgent and emergency care services, but I fully support my colleagues to do so.

The current situation is beyond critical.

JuicyPie · 06/10/2022 19:09

Nurse for 11 years and will 100% support a strike

QueenCremant · 06/10/2022 19:10

Yes, I will vote to strike.
Recruitment and retention are a huge issue and pay/conditions need to improve otherwise there will be no nurses left.

eatyourcrustspls · 06/10/2022 19:16

I'm a HV. I want to strike but I simply can't afford to lose a day's pay. I'm top band 6 and unless I want a 7 (which I don't) then this is it forever.

Mileage allowance doesn't even cover anything now. They won't even put that up.

I'm very fed up, they ask for more and more, staffing is abysmal. I want to quit but I don't want to lose my pension.

eatyourcrustspls · 06/10/2022 19:18

I've been qualified 14 years and it's just getting worse. I will do my utmost to put my children off a career in the NHS.

Dropdout · 06/10/2022 19:20

I dropped out of my nurse training after seeing how staffing is and how much responsibility and team management newly qualifieds very soon have to take on on Band 5. I support a strike 1000%. The strikes in the NHS are always done safely and I'm sure this will be no exception but it needs to happen.

FuckinHooray · 06/10/2022 19:24

I will vote to strike (haven’t had my ballot through yet!) and every single nurse I know has also said they will vote to strike

Slingsanderrors · 06/10/2022 20:49

MissyB1 · 06/10/2022 19:02

I remember it well!

Glad someone does, means I’m not so ancient! It was quite exciting at the time. I remember leaving the RCN and joining Unison because they supported the work to grade.

Singinghollybob · 06/10/2022 20:55

I'm voting to strike, 100%

Shinyhappyperson22 · 06/10/2022 21:00

Healthcare worker. Absolutely strike. Also support anyone else that’s been affected by crap pay and freezes but also worsening and unsafe working conditions over the years not just NHS Staff

whataballbag · 06/10/2022 21:02

I'm a yes

whataballbag · 06/10/2022 21:03

Posted this on another threat but

Any NHS staff in unison, make sure your details are up to date.

Ballots are being sent out on 27th October and need to be returned by 25th November.

Ballot helpline is open 1st Nov until 21st Nov - 0800 0 857 857

If you're NOT in a union, if you join unison by 15th Nov, you'll be able to vote in the ballot

TickTockBaby · 06/10/2022 21:19

I am a nurse, and i will vote to strike.

I meet lots of other nurses in my day to day role across all departments- and all I've spoken with regarding the strike have said they will be balloting for strike action.

Im choosing strike action as i believe its the only way to protect nursing thereby protecting my patients.

The nursing role needs to be respected, supported and attractive, which at the moment on the current T&C's it is not.

If the retention & recruitment issues continue because of the poor T&C's the NHS will fail and my patients will suffer.

I'll be striking for the long term goal.

Mossyeyes · 06/10/2022 22:03

I'm not a nurse anymore (moved into midwifery). However, I would 100% vote to strike if I was a nurse. Its not about money for me but the working conditions and huge staff gaps that are having a such an impact on safety.

The NHS is on a rapid downward spiral. I'm scared most days as we are flying so close to the wind. I'm a senior clinician with over 20 years of experience but seriously considering leaving. Infact, I just filled an application to do something completely different this evening. It's bittersweet as I would be relieved to get out but would feel terrible about being another deserter.

Bloatstoat · 06/10/2022 22:09

I'm an AHP and unison member. I completely support nurses I work with voting to strike, as others have said, it's about conditions and the impact on both staff and patients, something has to change.

Bunnyfuller · 06/10/2022 22:12

Please vote yes. I am not in the NHS, I’m in the Police. We can’t strike, but we’re 100% behind you. Ignore the emotional blackmail ‘but the poor patients’. The poor patients are on this fucking government, the same as every crime we literally cannot get to, or investigate like we would want.

Bedsheets4knickers · 06/10/2022 22:17

I absolutely support this strike . I'm not a nurse no where near .. I am a career so I get the duty of care logo ... I know striking will go against your instincts but enough is enough .. it needs to be across the whole board , it needs solidarity and it will be the only time you need to do it ..... you are almost held to ransom in this role .. I support you xxxx

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/10/2022 22:20

Yes I think I will vote to strike.

The wage I earn now is simply ludicrously out of line with the level of skill and responsibility I have.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 06/10/2022 22:30

Nurse for 36 years, I will be voting yes to strike as are the majority of my team.
