Anyone else looking forward to their weather appropriate tea?

It's Autumn as fuck out there today - grey and rainy, leaves everywhere.. I quite like it Grin

Have just finished the tea, got a Panacalty cooking away in the slow cooker ready for the kids getting home from school. Will do some Yorkshire puddings to accompany it I think.

What's everyone else having?

I have no idea what that is ?

Dogsgottabone · 05/10/2022 11:43

What's a panacalty?

I wish my children would eat slow cooker food.

BamBamBilla · 05/10/2022 11:46

I'd like to have a proper autumnal tea but its use up all the stuff in the freezer before we do the big shop tonight instead. So we're having veggie bean burgers, potato waffles and frozen cauliflower cheese with pickled beetroot. Might throw the last of the sandwich spread on there too to get rid of the jars hanging around in the fridge.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 05/10/2022 11:46

I knew the replies would be asking what Panacalty was Grin

@Dogsgottabone is it stews etc the kids won’t eat? We use our slow cooker for Thai curries, Mexican beans, Mac and cheese. Things that can be done on the stove but are easier to sort in the morning and have ready for later!

And yes OP I’m enjoying the turn in weather and the return to comfort food! Funnily enough we’re having slow cooker biryani with a veg curry on the side.

LearnerCook · 05/10/2022 11:48

Fellow north-easterner, OP?

Sausage casserole for tea tonight.

Dogsgottabone · 05/10/2022 11:48

I've googled it and it sounds lovely.

I'd quite like that for tea too.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/10/2022 11:48

😁 Love a bit of panacalty and heavily buttered bread.

PestorPeston · 05/10/2022 11:49

Being a southerner I had to google that www.northeastfood.co.uk/panacalty-recipe/

We had cottage pie and cabbage yesterday, lush and very warming. Especially as about a quarter of the base consisted of leftover chilli.

Cheeselog · 05/10/2022 11:52

We’re having the second half of a butter bean stew I made last night. It’s actually still warm here (17) but it’s one of my favourite dishes so I made it anyway 😋

InsertPunHere · 05/10/2022 11:52

Aubergine chiili, black beans and rice for us tonight.

Notwellatall · 05/10/2022 11:52

Already started having jacket potatoes with beans and cheese - such a cheap meal, but one of my favourites.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/10/2022 11:54

Eating through the freezer atm so lasagne this evening.
husband made a fantastic bourguinon (spelling?) at the weekend, with creamy mash. Was lovely eating it in front of the telly, watching the trees swish around outside.

Indeed I am! Hello 👋🏻

It's corned beef/sliced potatoes/veg/gravy, all layered together. Absolutely delicious, I'd recommend it Smile

Left over soup tonight. A tooth out yesterday means soft food for a while.

BaronessBomburst · 05/10/2022 12:07

I had to Google panacalty but recognised it straight away! We ate it growing up in Kent but called it Corned Beef and Potato Layer Pie. Grin
I wonder where DM got the recipe from.

DialsMavis · 05/10/2022 12:08

Mushroom Bourginon with mash and spinach here tonight and was Cauli cheese last night, I am expanding rapidly at the waistline

Filleto · 05/10/2022 12:09

I have no idea what would be seasonally appropriate food here today, it’s really grey and windy with driving rain but oddly hot. I thought I must be ill with how hot and sweaty I got on the school run until other people also commented on the temperature. It looks like autumn but hot!

DP hates corned beef so that’s not in my repertoire but I do a chorizo hash type thing that I haven’t cooked for ages so thanks for reminding me of it

Oooh I’ve never done it in the slow cooker before. Do you have a recipe? I don’t live in the NE anymore but panaculty really reminds me of home and my Mam.

HereComeTheGrannies · 05/10/2022 12:46

We’re having Chinese pork stir fry tonight but was actually planning panaculty tomorrow night.

Ooohyeah · 05/10/2022 12:49

Bangers and mash tonight with lots of lovely gravy and plenty of vegetables 😋

1984Winston · 05/10/2022 12:56

I've got a bolognese in the slow cooker today, love my slow cooker!

MeAndAutumnGoHandInHand · 05/10/2022 12:59

@HereComeTheGrannies this is only the second time I've done it in the slow cooker, it's so nice being able to get it done and out the way early. My future self thanks me Grin

All I've used today is sliced potatoes, sliced corned beef, diced onions, grated carrot and tinned sweetcorn.

Start with a layer of potatoes, then corned beef and veg, then another layer of potatoes. Cover with gravy then do the same again - 3 layers in total, with sliced spuds on the top. Lid on, slow cooker on high. Jobs a good 'un!
