What age child wrote this?

Hello, my dd started writing a book. What age do you think wrote this?
----
A skinny grey and black shape was sitting on the rough soil. ‘’There. That’s the last one,’’ He said, as he planted the last tree in. “Hey, Lucifer.’’ said a familiar voice. It was Summer. He liked Summer. Her voice was as smooth as a rose in the afternoon sunshine. Summer had ginger fur, vivid green eyes, and a long, stretched out tail. Ah, he missed her. “Whatcha doin’?’’ she pondered. ‘’The groups waiting,’’ Summer drawled out, tilting her head to the side in a sassy way as Lucifer stood up. His tail ached. Why did his tail ache? ‘’Yeah, yeah. Comin,’’ He walked with Summer through a pathway, mostly hidden by the trees. The hard stone strewn across the ground was marble white. They went all the way to the mysterious structure in a clearing of the lush forest.

The building was a hazelnut brown and cerulean blue and the wooden roof was a rusty brown. It was quite homey, flower pots with various small plants taking up the space on the windowsills in front of the light grey tinted windows, blinds drawn, blocking the view of the inside building. Hazelnut wood accompanied by various highlights of blue was the main feature of the structure, a few white poles holding up the roof over the doors and windows on the top row of the vertical glass surfaces peaking into the building, allowing light to flood through.

Both Lucifer and Summer noticed a figure, slightly larger than them and with rougher fur, sitting outside of the building.
“Hey, Maggie… and who’s that?" Lucifer questioned, giving a fleeting glance at the waiting cats. “Oh, just a visitor,” She looked strangely guilty, but for what reason? Maggie was honourable, she had her fair share of knowledge. Maybe he could ask her. “Maggie, tell me now. Who is it?’
“Um, ok. I know this sounds weird, but, um…’’ She stammered.

“That's my father.’’
“Your FATHER?!’’ Lucifer reared back. ‘’Why and how is he here? Shouldn't he be in the kingdom of Khid?’’

Interested to know what others think of this writing, thanks!

I think posters hate this type of thread as they see it as a disguised brag and consequently deliberately underestimate the age of the child. This is more sophisticated and imaginative than would at all be expected of a typical nine year old and you should definitely encourage this flair for writing.

Whatever age they are, as feedback I'd say that ginger cats are male, so Summer (female) should probably have different colour fur.

There are female ginger cats. More males, yes, but the female ones still exist.

This is great.
Yes description is pushed hard in upper KS2 but the way the story is moving forward (not too fast or slow) is natural talent!
I need to know... WHY does his tail ache?!

LT2 · 03/10/2022 19:44

I agree with @shipwreckedonhighseas

People don't like others who brag, so they try to bring them down.

I’d say yr 5 - around 9. My daughter is 7 and not quite at this level of sTory writing but not massively far off

Chanttotheprince · 03/10/2022 19:48

It's very good but I think throwing in all those superfluous long words is the hallmark of a clever, younger child

yes! Mine puts in the funniest over the top descriptive language!

KingCharlespen · 03/10/2022 19:53

An 8 year old.

McConkeysPlate · 03/10/2022 19:54

8/9?

OCDmama · 03/10/2022 21:14

There are girl ginger cats! They're sometimes referred to as marmalades. I had a girl called Sandy.

Encourage her OP. I was a bit of a precocious child but loved creative writing....sadly it petered out as we didn't really do much of it in secondary school. I wish I'd kept writing.
