Don't go in to the water. Crocodiles off the North Yorkshire coast

www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/22996639.mum-insists-saw-three-huge-crocodiles-swimming-sea-off-filey---experts-brand-sighting-vanishingly-unlikely/

Experts have said that it would be extremely unlikely that crocodiles which are cold blooded would like the cold North Sea.

Unless this is an unexpected effect of climate change and warning oceans.

But we all know what we think of experts. And why wouldn't they want to explore Yorkshire and its amazing coastline Grin

(Or it could just be a log. Or plastic)

@PuttingDownRoots I bloody believed you as well!
I HAVE seen a big cat in Cheshire, I was driving on the M56 at 6am and it was clear as day!
Those photos of the crocs however look like logs to me

JlL2013 · 01/10/2022 10:53

Sounds like the Bristol Crocodile has migrated north, can't say I blame it.

Florenz · 01/10/2022 10:53

Won't the crocs just swim south to warmer waters? They could be in Norfolk now or Essex or Kent.

Apparently people have spotted a large panther type cat wandering the streets of Bolton on several occasions, Bolton of all places ,I have never seen it but it does amuse me .

I mixed some pretty bad crack with some dope on a wet Saturday in February and, well just fuck, camels were walking along the dado rail in the bathroom. I kid you not. I leapt out of the bath and lay on my back in the garden in the rain.

It’s quite interesting how ridiculous the woman (referred to as a ‘mum’) is portrayed as in the article. Even though she is being ridiculous, it’s still notable how dismissive the article is. And how the term mum
is used to underline that. Because obviously being a mother makes your opinion less valuable.

North Sea crocodiles is a hilarious idea. Have some saltwater crocs gotten very lost indeed?

crochetmylifeaway · 01/10/2022 10:59

Crocodiles don't swim with their legs they use their tails. Plus they don't live in a "family unit". They mate, mum lays her eggs and buggers off.

Someone just wanted their 15 minutes of fame but didn't do their research.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/10/2022 11:02

Well in fairness I saw a large turtle basking in a murky lake in Stamford Hill the other day, so anything is possible.

There is now suspicions that there may be a monster in Ullswater after someone saw a Canadian goose being pulled under water by something and drowned. According to some people, it is either a monster or someone was released a crocodile there at some point.

That’s almost certainly a Wels catfish. Not native to the UK but widely present.

IceandIndigo · 01/10/2022 11:12

I love stories like this. No way she saw crocodiles though.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 01/10/2022 11:15

She needs to take more water with it!

PuttingDownRoots · 01/10/2022 11:16

After my Big Cats in Yorkshire I know some might not take me seriously....

But there are (or at least were, there does seem to be some reports they have now died out) wild Wallabies in the Peak District.

onmywayamarillo · 01/10/2022 11:23

There's wallabies near us down south! They escaped from an estate with a mini zoo

This is panthers in Yorkshire level craziness. The crocs bask all day on the river and estuary banks in the winter where I live to try and keep warm. And by winter, I mean daytime temperatures of 22-24 degrees c. They rarely south of Rockhampton because it is too cold for them. So even sub-tropics is too cold.

Did you not see the lion of Dudley? I’m no
zoologist but that looked lion adjacent.

my husband also thinks he saw a big cat (midlands) run across a country road, I’m not convinced it wasn’t a badger but he swears blind

Herja · 01/10/2022 11:48

I love the big cat stories and I will not be told their bollocks! They make me extremely happy.

There have certainly been some, at some times, in any case. Felicity the puma (now stuffed and in Inverness museum) was a released big cat out roaming once. The idea of them secretly breeding and settling in delights me. I wish we had wolves, bears and lynx wild again, but I'll accept occasional big cats until then... Crocodiles seems a step too far though! Too bloody cold for those buggers.

FlorettaB · 01/10/2022 11:51

’Experts have said that it would be extremely unlikely that crocodiles which are cold blooded would like the cold North Sea.’

But these are Yorkshire crocodiles, not nesh southern (hemisphere) crocodiles.

There’s a place where they’ve released them into the wild again, bears, wolves and lynx… feel like it’s in the midlands somewhere…

off to google

If you watch enough River Monsters you’ll know that it’s nearly always a cat fish.

HoppingPavlova · 01/10/2022 12:02

That is not crocodiles, it’s likely driftwood.

Crocodiles don’t have jolly outings in family units, they are solitary and the young fend for themselves when hatched. They also don’t ‘dog paddle’ like this woman describes. All notwithstanding the fact they live in warm water.

dudsville · 01/10/2022 12:05

But it looks nothing like a crocodile???

PortalooSunset · 01/10/2022 12:23

She's definitely a "make up" artist isn't she? Croc of shite.
