If you have private health insurance...

Who is it with and how much do you pay?

Toooldtoworry · 30/09/2022 14:33

I did have Vitality through work, who were very good, when I changed jobs the quote for my DH and I was £166 (in our 40s). They did say I could cover my pre existing illness but it'd be £745 per month instead.

Lilgamesh2 · 30/09/2022 14:38

£125 per month with Vitality for me, DH and DD

XingMing · 30/09/2022 14:45

We don't because at 66, it's prohibitively expensive. We used to have cover, via our small business, but the premiums went through the roof when the renewal came after DH used it following a cardiac arrest 16 years ago. Instead we paid the premium into a "medical savings account" and now we use that money to fund anything which requires private health, dental or eye care.

Top cover vitality including all central London hospitals with no limits on claims. £2000 2 kids 2 adults. Worth every penny

washingbasketqueen · 30/09/2022 14:58

I'm with Bupa and it's £66 for me and 1dc.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 30/09/2022 15:03

Axa for me and it's free with work. I do pay a very small top up to include my child.

JJsdadisatwat · 30/09/2022 15:22

Axa.

£170 a month for me, dh and two children. £500 excess but full cancer care, all
outpatients, tests etc. GP service included and big things like breast at cancer tests for example no need for GP referral, just call them and go. I was seen the next evening at a one stop breast clinic after calling them.

It saved my life last year. Literally. I wouldn’t be without it. We aren’t well off at all but dh and I go without regular haircuts/new clothes/holidays/going out etc to pay for it.

Thank god for it last year. I’ve had cover since I was 19, so 23 years now and my children since the days they were born. Dh didn’t have cover until the shock of the consultant telling us that if I was one of his NHS patients, things would have been very different for me by the time I was referred and seen. He joined my plan the next day.

I know some people prefer to save monthly instead of paying a monthly premium. But my care came to over £13,000, all covered bar the £500 excess. So unless you are a very stringent saver then it’s a gamble.

I thought so, I only took it out last month.

TheFlis12345 · 30/09/2022 15:44

We have Vitality. Initially we paid ourselves and it was £120 a month, now we get it through DHs work so his is free and we pay £30 a month for me to be included.

DottyLittleRainbow · 30/09/2022 16:32

Anyone have anything that includes dental cover or cash back?

YumYummy · 30/09/2022 16:36

AXA
just for me
£8600

AriettyHomily · 30/09/2022 16:39

Axa, work benefit, the kids are £10 a month.

JustDanceAddict · 30/09/2022 16:49

Vitality - currently about £170 pm for me and dh (we lobbed off the kids last year as too ££). We’ve both claimed this year so am dreading the renewals but we are on platinum so maybe that’ll mitigate it a bit.
This is with £250 excess and not central London hospitals.
as long as we can afford it we’ll keep it on.

max 10% / £250 excess per claim.

I use Sovereign Healthcare for cashback. They're really good and so far I seem to have made a profit as I've got more cash back than I've paid in premiums for the past 2 years. They cover a lot, including opticians, physios, dentists, sports massage, reflexology, acupuncture, hospital consultant fees etc. They also include a free private GP phone service with their cover.

If anyone is interested in Sovereign, please PM me and I can dig out a referral code that will get us both £15 in M&S vouchers if you sign up.

I also have free health insurance through work with Aviva. I pay extra each month to increase the outpatient limit as I'm having a lot of investigative work done for long Covid. I blew that outpatient limit quite quickly so am self-funding but Aviva did cover my recent inpatient surgery that was approx £12k at one of central London's top private hospitals.

AllLopsided · 30/09/2022 19:00

I can't believe how little you are all paying!

I've been with Bupa Global (international excluding USA) for nearly 20 years and am paying more than £800 a month Shock No excess but some weird exclusions including anything to do with sleep Confused

I do get my money's worth though...

oldtableleg · 30/09/2022 19:03

AXA as a work benefit - obviously pay tax on the value but not out of pocket expense - covers dh & me & dependents to the age of 25 (4 children). We use it a lot - outpatients, hospital (investigations & surgery), GP, screening & mental health. No excess or charge on the GP, there is an outpatient limit but we've never managed to max it out. Only thing that isn't covered is psych for ADHD & autism.

I'm terrified of losing it.

Your cover is so expensive because it's international.

My employer offers international (on top of our free UK cover) for a monthly premium of £900!

supadupapupascupa · 30/09/2022 19:06

WPA £250 per month. Family of 4 platinum cover (everything basically including top London access)

SarahShorty · 30/09/2022 19:13

Bupa. About £80 a month. That covers both myself and DH. My portion of the cover is a bit more expensive on account of being female, ie there's more to go wrong.

THNG5 · 30/09/2022 19:16

I just signed up today to Aviva. Family of 7 (5 young kids and 2 adults). We're all in good health at the moment. £150 a month, no excess.
