£400 energy - deduction from DD??

Can someone please explain this to me, I'm with EON.

I've just logged on to submit my meter readings as usual, I normally pay £100 per month direct debit but I submit my readings every month so the usage/credit is accurate.

It now says my direct debit will be £33 this month. How is this crediting me £67 when I'll still have the pay the same amount for my usage? I understand I'll have the extra £67 in my bank account but the usage will still have to be paid for? I'll now just be £67 less in credit.

I don't understand!

I don’t understand how you can’t understand even though it’s been explained by posters several times.

There's no need to be rude! I'm asking a genuine question.

Please remember there's another person at the end of your messages.

You pay £33, the government has paid the balance.

It gets credited to your account WITH EON. Not to your bank account.

WhatsitWiggle · 30/09/2022 10:47

*For example for easiness-

£100 direct debit
£100 usage
= nothing owed

Now
£33 direct debit
£100 usage.
I still have to pay the £67 owing?*

No
£100 usage
£67 credit from government
£33 direct debit

I mean they could have done:
£100 usage
£67 credit from government
£100 direct debit

But then everyone would be asking for a refund of the £67

mynameischloe · 30/09/2022 10:48

Thank you everyone for your help, I didn't realise the government credited the account as well. I personally found the wording confusing.

I understand not everyone did find it confusing, hence the reason we have these forums to ask questions.

I understand the credit doesn't go into my bank account.

Glad you understand now OP, I think you were just over thinking it Smile

howaboutchocolate · 30/09/2022 10:52

it is a bit confusing. Eon have reduced my direct debit but they haven't accounted for the massive increase in prices that's coming, so I'll owe them a load of money the next time I give them a meter reading. Why they didn't just keep the DD the same and apply an extra credit to the account I don't understand. Now I have to faff about working out how much my DD should be so I can overpay monthly before I get hit with a bill I have to pay in one go.

Im glad it's not just me. It would have been easier if they just credited our account (energy account) rather than reducing the DD.

OP posts:
mynameischloe · 30/09/2022 10:55

It still doesn't say here anything about crediting my energy account, it just says Eon will reduce my DD. Why doesn't it say my energy account will be credited?

Well this thread explains nicely why my DD has been reduced to £1/month. I was going to login and fix it but I think I’ll leave it for a month or two and save the cash.
im not sure how I missed that we are all getting £400 towards energy bills, I must still have my head under a rock since I shoved it there in March 2020 😂

It is confusing. My energy company have emailed me to tell me the increased charges from 1 Oct. They have said that my DD will be the same as I am expected to use more than the average £2500 per year. Yet I am approximately 2k in credit as I've been overpaying for about a year and they increased my direct debits in April. I'm fine with being in credit as I know it will disappear over the winter, but where is the government help as I'm not seeing any reduction in what I'm paying?

BigWoollyJumpers · 30/09/2022 10:58

Are you on a fixed tariff OP?

mynameischloe · 30/09/2022 10:58

@BigWoollyJumpers yes fixed.

mynameischloe · 30/09/2022 10:58

@BigWoollyJumpers yes fixed.

Then re-read the message they sent you. IF YOU ARE ON A FIXED TARIFF WE WILL RECUCE YOU DD. Because you are on a fixed, your energy prices won't be increasing will they? So, you get the benefit on your DD, not on your increased bill, because you won't have an increased bill!!

Beautiful3 · 30/09/2022 11:02

The government help is £66 per month.

averageavocado · 30/09/2022 11:02

But if they reduce my direct debit, i still have to pay the same amount for usage?

For example for easiness-

£100 direct debit
£100 usage
= nothing owed

Now
£33 direct debit
£100 usage.
I still have to pay the £67 owing?

£100 direct debit
£100 usage
= nothing owed
Now

£33 direct debit
£67 PAID BY THE GVNT
£100 usage.
= NOTHING OWED
I still have to pay the £67 owing? there is no £67 outstanding

mynameischloe · 30/09/2022 11:02

I'm not questioning whether my bill will increase because I know I'm on a fixed.

I was asking where the money is coming from if my direct debit is reduced, but my usage is still the same, where the money for the remainder of my bill is coming from? It doesn't say anywhere the govt will credit my energy account it just says eon will reduce my DD.

So if my usage is still the same for example £100, where's the money for the rest of the bill coming from if they've reduced the DD to £33?

OP posts:
mynameischloe · 30/09/2022 11:03

@averageavocado I was simply wondering because no where does it say my energy will be credited £67, it just says the DD will change.

OP posts:
Floydthebarber · 30/09/2022 11:04

I'm with Eon and the way they have applied it is confusing. I had an email telling me that my direct debit was going up to £180 a month but that includes the £67. My DD currently is £207. It would have been helpful for them to say that my bill is going up to £247 and then give me the discounted price after the £67 has been applied.

They also sent a bill after my meter reading after the email above telling me my october DD will be £140. I do have £60 credit but I like my bills to be absolutely clear about what the charge is and what I am paying!

sammielouise · 30/09/2022 11:04

"I still have to pay the £67 owing?"

No. The government pay direct to Eon.
