2008, or there abouts, I think i may have gone for a random general check up just out of curiosity, maybe 2010. But dentists have always said i have good strong teeth, no plaque, etc. I loathe the dentist visits.

WhatLikeItsHard · 29/09/2022 21:11

I joined a new dentist earlier this year: had a full check up with the dentist in April, and then a scale and polish with the hygienist in June. The dentist recommend that I go every 12 months for the same, it's a private dentist and I pay £7 a month.

LynneBenfield · 29/09/2022 21:12

A few months ago. I go every 8 months, as per my dentist.

About a year.. I was pretty pregnant and DS is now 11 months. I need to get cracking. 1. Because I don’t want to be struck off but 2. It’s still free for another month 😂

OldEnoughToHaveReadBunty · 29/09/2022 21:14

11 years ago for me too. While pregnant with DD.

DD, incidentally, has check ups every 6 months without fail and has done for as long as she's had teeth.

I just don't breathe through my nose so am terrified of not being able to breathe through my mouth either!

I know at some point something will happen & I'll have to go.

Branster · 29/09/2022 21:15

Comedycook · 29/09/2022 20:46

11 years ago. I'm not scared though. Just feel guilty when I do stuff for myself.

Please go for a checkup. Yes it is for you but it's about your health. Your health is a priority, it's not selfish. Nobody else can do it for you.
You're probably ok but those gums need keeping an eye on as you get older. As a minimum.

Ponderingwindow · 29/09/2022 21:16

I finally did it this month. My one before that was a few years ago and the hygienist was so awful I had a panic attack and left part way through. I tracked down my old hygienist and switched my care to her new location with her new dentist. I found out other patients had similar reactions.

VikingLady · 29/09/2022 21:17

Coming up to a decade. No NHS dentists near us have openings for either adults or kids, and we can't afford private. But I'm told none of those gave spaces either.

Comedycook · 29/09/2022 21:18

Thank you @Branster you are so right! I am crap at stuff like this!

MarshaMelrose · 29/09/2022 21:19

April. I go every six months to a year, depending on what's going on with my teeth.

honeyfox · 29/09/2022 21:19

About 2 weeks ago for a check up and a filling, and I'm back in Tuesday for a temporary crown for a tooth I didn't even know was cracked. I usually go once a year at least. I've been loads the last few years as a new filling led to a micro leak in the tooth which eventually led to an infection and a root canal. Had pain for ages but it took a while to show up on an x-ray. Cost me a fortune as I'm in Ireland, no NHS dentists here and we pay.

This summer.

Every 6 months or so we're in there; can't afford to risk our NHS registries ... so many people inadvertently lost their NHS places when they didn't go in after Covid and more than 2 years had passed!

This is what happened to me. I've always gone very regularly but then surgery very rarely open during covid. (Two check ups were cancelled by the surgery.) Since then I've been very busy with work. I called a few weeks ago to make an appointment and was told that I've been dropped from the NHS last Confused

honeyfox · 29/09/2022 21:20

I also hate dentists and have a fear of going.

mouse70 · 29/09/2022 21:23

9 months ago Had next appointment booked for January I was lucky enough to be registered with NHS dentist.( Have been with same practice 30+ years)Then received notification that my dentist no longer NHS so will have to either pay or use another dentist in same practice.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/09/2022 21:25

Three weeks ago fir a filling, this morning for a deep clean on one side and back in two weeks for a deep clean on the other side, was worried my children had been deregistered ad they haven’t been since before covid but they are booked in in the Christmas holidays.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/09/2022 21:28

Yesterday to have impressions done for a replacement night guard - I clench my teeth in bed and have pretty much chomped through my current one.

ninnynonny · 29/09/2022 21:28

A week ago. I've had awful issues with my teeth all my life mainly due to shitty constant treatment as a child. I realised I had to go but had been taken off the NHS list so have delved into savings to go private. Luckily(?!) it was only 4 appointments and cost me around £1000. I'm appalled at how many people can't get basic help now. It was only a tiny inheritance that meant that I could. I'd love an implant but can't justify the 3 grand quoted!

AsterixInEngland · 29/09/2022 21:33

This week but I have been known to for years Wo going.
And tbh, when I did go back, there was nothing to be seen. So 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

PeanutAnarchy · 29/09/2022 21:38

Scared.
And I look after my teeth.
... and I can't afford it.
But mainly fear.

ThirtyThreeTrees · 29/09/2022 21:48

I avoided dentist for years as I hated it.

I went about 5 years ago as I had bad breath (turned out to be a stomach infection and nothing to do with my teeth!) and told dentist that I was bricking it.

He basically told me if I get them cleaned every 6 months, it'll never hurt but the longer you leave it, the more it will hurt. Have gone religiously ever since and now actually enjoy it. Love coming out with fully cleaned teeth.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 29/09/2022 21:54

4 years ago and I was removed from the system even though it was covid but I was told I could have booked it during covid to have the check up. I have been on the waiting list since last year to re-register again. Let’s hope it won’t take another year to be registered

dutysuite · 29/09/2022 22:12

I saw a dentist just over ago, as soon as I walk into a dentist I come out with pain that I didn’t have when I walked in. I have no trust in the dentist anymore.

FindingMeno · 29/09/2022 22:41

I have always gone to the dentist regularly, as have my dcs.
We are lucky to have a good NHS dentist we see every 6 months.

Discovereads · 29/09/2022 22:43

This past Monday. Go every 6mos for check up, scale and polish.

GroggyLegs · 29/09/2022 22:47

Every 9 months as instructed by my dentist. I also brush at least twice a day & floss daily.

Whhyyyyyyy would anyone neglect their teeth???
