We've just got a notice of our direct debit for the next 6 months. (We also got a refund since the last increase Confused). So DP wondered how we compared and I said I knew where to ask. Would anyone be happy in sharing the following?

Accommodation type:
Number of people:
Monthly cost of gas and/or electric:
Lifestyle factors:

Accommodation type: 4 bed detached (20 years old)
Number of people: 4
Monthly cost of gas and electric: £310 (I have been hugely overpaying over the summer so have £1000+ in green) but I hate being cold, and so heating is already on, we do 6/7 washing loads a week with tumble dryer usage.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 29/09/2022 09:47

Accommodation mid terrace 2 bed. 2 adults. Gas and electric combined £53-55 per month paid on reading meter combined. Me at home and Dh at work.

YumYummy · 29/09/2022 09:52

New bill as of October
4 bedroom detached house
4 adults, 2 WFH, 2 retired, a lot of gadgets etc. we aren’t being careful but having said that they don’t like the heating on high but do like it on.
electric car.

£332 (minus the £66 per month govt help)
we were underpaying as got our car just as the April review was done. The car costs £70 per month instead of £400 petrol.

2 bed approx 80 years old
4 people
Roughly 200pcm was around 240 but stopped using the dishwasher and tumble and it dropped around £5 per day!
Toddler Dc so one of us in a lot with Dc

LesOliviers · 29/09/2022 10:11

Accommodation type: 3 bed 1930s semi
Number of people: 2 adults, 1 child
Monthly cost of gas and/or electric: £240 dual fuel. £175 credit on account.
Lifestyle factors: I'm at work all day. DH works from home 3-4 days per week.

I set the direct debit at £240 myself. E.ON Next only wanted £70 pm based on a projected annual spend of £3306. Even with account credit and the £400 government subsidy, that would've left us with at least an £1891 deficit!

Please double check your energy company's direct debit calculations and amend your direct debit if necessary. I'm pretty clued up due to working in the energy industry but there are people who would take that £70 pm at face value and wouldn't question it.

2 bed ground floor apartment, built 16 years ago
Just me
£100pm (on the new rates)
WFH FT

MrsTimRiggins · 29/09/2022 10:20

Accommodation type: old 3 bed farmhouse, and all the issues that go with that!
Number of people: 3. DH, me and 1yo
Monthly cost of gas and/or electric: £240
Lifestyle factors: DH never here, me and DS always here (SAHM)… use the tumble dryer much more than I should 😳 equally tho, the house is poorly insulated, draughty and has a heating system from ancient times (albeit that’s only on when absolutely necessary as it is so terribly inefficient)

pinkberet · 29/09/2022 08:38

But currently on non-stop as we have a threadworms outbreak 😩so towels and bedding etc being washed daily. Have £400 credit from the summer. Heating not on yet but I am freezing so it will be going on soon.

stealthninjamum · 29/09/2022 10:35

6 bed detached 30 years old
1 adult at home during the day and 2 dc
Monthly cost of gas / electricity £356

This is based on last years usage. I’ll be using the oven less and hopefully getting extra insulation in the loft - if I can get someone to do it

Startuplife · 29/09/2022 10:36

Accommodation type: 3-bed semi, about 70 years old.
Number of people: 2 adults
Monthly cost of gas and/or electric: £98
Lifestyle factors: Me home most of the time, him out most of the time.

Just did our meter readings for last month and it came out at £98. However our DD is set at £184 and when I looked at changing it Bulb is telling me the minimum is £227 to ensure we don’t get into debt.

Combined cost gas/electricity about £75 per month

Accommodation type: 2 bed mid terrace. early 80s. Wooden doors and windows were replaced with uPVC a few years ago.

Number of people: 1 adult and 1 teenager

Monthly cost of gas and/or electric: Combined gas and elec with Scottish Power. From 1st Oct £162.18 (up from £71.02 in July, then £123 in Aug). nb. I was on a fixed tariff until end June.

Lifestyle factors: I WHF full time. No dishwasher, rarely use tumble drier. Have recently had bathroom refitted including power shower which uses A LOT of hot water (god it's wonderful though).

I just tried to log into my account, but there's a queue to just log in, and I'm 1619th! I wanted to see how much credit I have.

Accommodation type: Mid terrace, four bedrooms, g2 listed.
