Managed to buy some beautiful, bright clothes for DS

Got some gorgeous clothes for DS in bright colours, but they weren’t cheap.

I know it’s a constant moan but supermarket clothes for boys are dire. Morrisons nutmeg aren’t too bad but the others just seem to be sludge colours and endless dinosaurs, and DS isn’t really into our extinct friends as of yet.

Where can I buy nice clothes without breaking the bank? I don’t want him dressed in endless navy and khaki and grey, don’t like Disney (he isn’t into it) and would prefer to avoid dinosaurs …

I found H&M best also Sainsbury’s then from age around 8 they went all grey

H&M were still ok ds have lots of those striped tops and bright colour trousers

As others have said, Next. My son's wardrobe is full of colour from there.

Fred and Noah for bright, fun leggings. Expensive, but can often get a good deal on fb for preloved items.

Bluezoo brand at Debenhams has really cute stuff for boys, and they seem to be selling it all off really cheaply lately.

Shitfather · 28/09/2022 21:30

How old is he? Cos and Arket have really lovely clothes for kids. If your DS is under 7, check out Bonnie Baby. I used to buy my DS lots of things from the latter.

I do occasionally buy from the girl's section but honestly it's got a lot harder recently - a lot of the girls' stuff is so incredibly differently cut. You have to upsize if you want it to fit as you would expect.

I got DS some pyjamas at Aldi the other day because they had paw patrol ones, they were sold out of all the "boy" colours so I got him a pink one, and when I got it home and he put them on I thought that's weird, it's really small on him. He wears age 4-5/5-6 usually, and this fit more like a 3-4. When it came through the wash I happened to have a pair of blue boy's PJ shorts and these pink girls PJ shorts, both age 4-6 years. The grey ones are age 3-4!

That is so depressing.

Why are PJ's for a 5 year old girl cut like hotpants?! What is wrong with the world.

I just bought some lovely boys things for my 3 year old in the boden sale

Lindex! Online only (unless you live in London) but they have great prints and lovely colours. We do well with Sainsburys and Next (more choice online) too. I also trawl for brands like Frugi and Duns in the sales. Don’t discount ‘girls’ clothes either - a lot of H&M girls stuff is quite unisex.

Nagado · 29/09/2022 06:43

Have a look at Sainsbury’s Tu clothing on line. They sell a range of Frugie (can’t remember what it is actually called but it’s very colourful and definitely begins with an F).

MotherWol · 29/09/2022 06:43

Another vote for Lindex, I get most of DD’s clothes from there now. The leggings with brushed fleece lining are great, as are the t-shirts with fun prints. They don’t tend to have slogans either, which I like.

Moreshroomsplease · 29/09/2022 06:48

There’s lots of Next stuff on Vinted, I’ve got loads of bright clothes for mine on there. It’s better quality so no real issues buying second hand.

OhRiRi · 29/09/2022 06:51

Organic brands like Frugi (although their quality has deteriorated significantly), Duns (can be a bit marmite), Kite, Villervalla, Toby Tiger, Alba of Denmark etc.

They are pricier but they also have a high resale value. There are numerous buy/sell groups on Facebook for these brands.

Our favourite is villervalla, the quality is great, we had a pair of bright bottoms that were a staple, worn and washed at least twice a week for several months. Bought a top in the same colour and there was virtually difference between the old and new colouring.

prisscalledwanda · 29/09/2022 06:55

Also vote for frugi, jojo, joules and blade and rose. I know they are more expensive but just keep an eye on the sales - loads of places stock them so lots of options, there are always some things on offer and no reason you can't buy a couple of sizes up if you see something nice discounted to use in the future? And yes also look for second hand.

Plus John Lewis and sometimes next and m and s for basics - navy leggings from anywhere, plus a bright top from the frugi sale is my son's uniform at the moment.

houseargh · 29/09/2022 06:59

Not just a boy issue. Desperate to get DD some gender neutral clothes that are bright colours, not beige! Seems the supermarket don't do that. God knows why. I won't pay for most of the brand's listed above new so eBay it is, but even on there it's a faff to find stuff, and things like Frugi are often still more expensive than supermarket brand new. So irritating that there is literally a premium to pay if you don't want your child's wardrobe to be reinforcing gender stereotypes from day 1.

LokiDokiArtichoki · 29/09/2022 15:28

If you prefer plains rather than patterns then Benetton would be a good shout!

Caspianberg · 29/09/2022 15:36

Zara

i have just stocked up for Ds for nursery from there.
The yellow rib knit leggings are lovely and were €6 something

green and white stripe long sleeve tshirt basics. Lots of lovely tshirts, leggings, trousers, socks in various colours for reasonable prices.

timtam23 · 29/09/2022 17:54

Thanks to the PPs who mentioned Lindex, I had never heard of them before but took a look at the website yesterday and bought a few things for my (older) DCs, they have some nice stuff which is all cotton or mostly cotton

Fluffygreenslippers · 29/09/2022 18:34

I bought baby ds some cute outfits from H&M and Sainsburys.

PurBal · 29/09/2022 18:35

I always buy plain for DS and never had a problem avoiding dinosaurs.

Luluem · 29/09/2022 18:37

Not sure how old he is, but I use bundlee for renting clothes for DD, and there’s lots of bright and fun clothes on there for her
