Managed to buy some beautiful, bright clothes for DS

Got some gorgeous clothes for DS in bright colours, but they weren’t cheap.

I know it’s a constant moan but supermarket clothes for boys are dire. Morrisons nutmeg aren’t too bad but the others just seem to be sludge colours and endless dinosaurs, and DS isn’t really into our extinct friends as of yet.

Where can I buy nice clothes without breaking the bank? I don’t want him dressed in endless navy and khaki and grey, don’t like Disney (he isn’t into it) and would prefer to avoid dinosaurs …

I was going to suggest nutmeg. I help out in a charity shop and I love the boys clothes we sort from there.

As a mum of three boys I also love h&m. Ds has some funky Harry Potter joggers with big bold prints all over that I currently love.

LillyLeaf · 28/09/2022 20:25

Zara are my fav boys clothes. Sweatshirts and tees in really nice colours. Love the fits too, has a skater vibe to it.

NuffSaidSam · 28/09/2022 20:26

Branch out from the 'boys' section. Baby leggings are baby leggings. T-shirts are t-shirts etc.

I haven’t tried Zara - thanks. A lot of these such as a little green radicals and joules are lovely but at the pricey end.

There was nothing I could see in sainsburys this afternoon that wasn’t dark and dreary but our sainsburys isn’t the biggest.

Blade and rose is where I got the latest clothes from and they really are lovely but pretty £££!

Sainsburys was great once - not sure what’s happened to it.

Ah ok! I always wait for the deals. A few weeks ago I got 3 pairs for 14 quid! It was a special deal. So I try to wait for them 😅

Sprogonthetyne · 28/09/2022 20:30

PE T-shirts from the uniform section, just entirely plain and available in most primary colours.

Nandocushion · 28/09/2022 20:30

It's been a few years now but I always found the nice brights that DS liked in H&M, not expensive.

MassiveSalad22 · 28/09/2022 20:32

I have 2 DSs and actually their wardrobes are quite colourful. My mum has gone through an awful endless phase of buying them both camo but other than that it’s Lindex, polarn, and souvenir type tops -
legoland, an aquarium print one from an aquarium, bass pro shops, sports team tops. They have some cute and colourful tops from the Tate too. Definitely Lindex though! They do lovely trousers too, nice and warm.

LokiDokiArtichoki · 28/09/2022 20:32

You want the scandi brands - smafolk, maxomorra, duns Sweden, alba of Denmark, villervalla. They are more expensive but have great resale value

BertieBotts · 28/09/2022 20:33

H&M often have 3 for 2 on their bright basics. And often have some really nice things in multipacks.

M&S are hit and miss - again great for multipacks, a bit too pricey otherwise.

Primark is good in the baby and toddler section, less so in the younger boys section, but sometimes some good stuff. Quality is hugely variable - sometimes lasts for years, sometimes destroyed after one wash.

Boots used to be great. Perhaps they still are.

I find supermarkets are normally OK? But might vary by branch, try a different one if you ever go to others. Plus I haven't been to any UK supermarkets the last few years.

Next pricey but have some great t-shirts and, again, multipacks and sales.

Second hand is really where you find the gems though. Try things like ebay or vinted and sort by colour - choose unusual colours - I tend to search for orange, cyan, purple or yellow. Not green because you get a load of khaki. Not red or blue. Then have a look through what the person's other stuff is. Or search keywords like "bright" "colourful" "rainbow" "multicoloured" "vibrant"

MassiveSalad22 · 28/09/2022 20:33

By the way Lindex is at the cheaper end and has an eco line too. I love Lindex!

Me too. And fits my tall DS really well which you might not expect. I also like Lindex for basics and H&M for the odd thing. M&S and Next don't seem great for taller kids.

MrsPear · 28/09/2022 20:34

Next online only - every physical store is the pits for boys. 80% of the allocated space for children is pink frilly frocks - great for parties if you like that kind of thing but not so good for playtime.

OzricTentacles · 28/09/2022 20:35

Next and H&M - but once they get into the older boys range (size 8 years) it's black and khaki all the way.

timtam23 · 28/09/2022 20:38

Lands End, online, in the sale. They do have some t-shirts with dinosaurs on but loads of other prints too and lovely bright colours.
Also H&M

BertieBotts · 28/09/2022 20:38

I do occasionally buy from the girl's section but honestly it's got a lot harder recently - a lot of the girls' stuff is so incredibly differently cut. You have to upsize if you want it to fit as you would expect.

I got DS some pyjamas at Aldi the other day because they had paw patrol ones, they were sold out of all the "boy" colours so I got him a pink one, and when I got it home and he put them on I thought that's weird, it's really small on him. He wears age 4-5/5-6 usually, and this fit more like a 3-4. When it came through the wash I happened to have a pair of blue boy's PJ shorts and these pink girls PJ shorts, both age 4-6 years. The grey ones are age 3-4!

Jo Jo Maman Bebe normally have some nice bright clothes.

Earlgreyteaandhomemadebiscuit · 28/09/2022 20:41

JoJo is gorgeous but definitely not cheap!

I used to buy clothes for DS from a German company called Jako-o. They did bright colours and tended towards a tall slim fit, as you would expect.

I had a German friend here in the UK who I used to combine orders with though.

MassiveSalad22 · 28/09/2022 20:42

@BertieBotts that is so crazy. If you’re on insta, Sonshinemagazine is all about this. Exactly that, comparing cuts etc. It’s rife apparently!! Glad my DD has 2 big brothers to get hand me downs from 😅

Hugasauras · 28/09/2022 20:43

Toby Tiger

MassiveSalad22 · 28/09/2022 20:45

Lindex Lindex Lindex op! Don’t know if you missed it 😄 also thought of Kite but don’t know how pricey off the top of my head. Land send us a good shout too, got some great fluffy rainbow PJs for DS from there lately.

Yeah it's the same in women's clothing 😡 I buy my running shorts from the mens section because they're a decent length and not like hot pants that disappear up my bum crack the minute I start running! For some reason clothes manufacturers think we like this!

sarge89 · 28/09/2022 20:51

EBay! I get all of DS's clothes from there. Bright colours from Joules, Boden, John Lewis, Kite, Polarn... lots of bargains to be had 🙂

roarfeckingroarr · 28/09/2022 20:52

I love mini boden for this reason. Beautiful bright clothes for boys.
