6 or 7 bags of washing?

I've been really depressed lately and just am overwhelmed. I've just bagged and sorted everything and there is 6 large bags of washing.

I feel like I'm going to be judged

You won’t be judged launderette people are used to this you’ve done well, take a book or something to keep you occupied even a hot drink pity no cafe or toilets near by.

ehb102 · 27/09/2022 13:38

Economies of scale. Much more sensible 👍

bigbluebus · 27/09/2022 13:38

I usually only go to the laundrette with duvets or when the washing machine has broken down. I have always found the staff to be helpful and welcoming. Back in the day when the DCs were small and we had friends with DC to stay for the weekend, I used to strip all the beds and take it all to the laundrette along with all the towels as I could use their big machines and get it all washed and dried at once.
I have many memories of sitting in the laundrette with my parents in the evenings as a child too.

Libre2 · 27/09/2022 13:40

Well done OP. Amazing job to have sorted all the laundry. Get it done and the sense of achievement tonight will be immense! As pps have said, book, flask and lots of change.

Iggyp · 27/09/2022 13:41

Thanks everyone. Made it. And raided DPs change tub.

But shaky as I forget the washing powder and had to ask taxi driver to go back and he wasnt happy but am here now.

Going to go get a hot choc from cafe round corner and read my book.

Sounds silly but thanks for the support. I probably just would have stayed home without it, genuinely.

Well done OP for dealing with it head on.. I suffer from Depression so I know how overwhelmed feels.
You've taken a big step facing your anxiety too
You'll feel much better now

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 27/09/2022 13:47

Enjoy the time, and bloody well done for taking control!!

CantFindTheBeat · 27/09/2022 13:48

They definitely won't.

One of the jobs at our football team is to take a shed load of kit the the laundrette.
There's bloody bags of the stuff!

WireSkills · 27/09/2022 13:49

I think you're a genius @Iggyp . I also wouldn't have even thought about sorting it all out and taking it to the launderette. I'd have got myself in to a bigger state having piled it all up in to lights and darks, etc, in front of my own machine, thinking "how the hell am I going to do all this, and where am I going to dry it?!"

InPraiseOfBacchus · 27/09/2022 14:04

No eyelids will be batted. I used to go in with huge sacks of washing several times a week when I worked in a cafe (tea towels and aprons)

WireSkills · 27/09/2022 14:09

Fab boots btw OP!

I'm taking inspiration from a PP and think I might have to take a visit myself. Thanks to a couple of pet accidents, none of our beds currently have matching pillows and duvets thanks to an emergency duvet cover change. I'm never able to re-align it as we don't have a dryer so I'm in a permanent state of bed confusion now (I have 2 favourite sets of covers on rotation!).

I may have to just strip them all and do a mass wash/dry session at the launderette.

I've got the new Robert Galbraith book that I'd happily waste some time waiting for them over!

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/09/2022 14:22

Only if you used all the machines. The amount, not at all. Take a good book, puzzle magazine etc and enjoy the day. There is something very satisfying about using the laundrette, all done and dusted in one trip, nothing hanging around the house.

35965a · 27/09/2022 14:24

Well done OP, great book (and boots) have a nice chill out time. You’ve also inspired others to do their washing too, so win win all round.

georgarina · 27/09/2022 14:25

If someone came in with a lot of laundry judging them is the last thing I'd do.

I'd think

-they had a big family
-they were doing other people's washing
-they were having a big wash of stuff like bedsheets, bath mats etc

Nothing negative would occur to me.

Besides, I wouldn't notice anyway, because I'd just be loading my washing and setting my phone alarm to pick it up in an hour.

Awe thanks. They're Dr Marten x lazy oaf ones that I wanted for months but refused to pay 200 for. They went on sale half price and I had a 20% off code. Don't mind if I do!

Oh bedding is rough here too.

I've just taken half the kids fluffy bedding out of storage and brought it here cause it didn't smell fresh.

I still have a bag of bedding to do but might walk down with that tomorrow. That will be carryable in 2 bags.

They have HUGE washers and I paid for the 2 biggest and 1 single so there were lots of others available still

Well done from me.

Sincerely, that is a fantastic outcome.

You'll feel so much better having got that lot sorted, AND time with a book AND time with a hot chocolate AND all while in fab boots.

Go you.

Iggyp · 27/09/2022 14:31

Sat here having a bit of a giggle to myself though.

2 men, in their 30s-ish, came in separately. One stood for ages near the 5.5kg washer so I assumed he wanted that. When it bibbed and got emptied he still didn't move.

I thought he wanted the 6.5kg maybe. So that finished and he still didn't move. The lady asked him of he was OK and he said "I have to do it myself?!" He was waiting for someone to come take his washing for him 😂

She had to show him how to use the washing machine.

The other fella then proceeded to take his washing out of the washing machine and put it into the washing machine next to it to dry it 🤔😂

Bless them 😂

Oh the Ghibli book, what a choice for a laundrette, perfect!

Im off to the Totoro stage show in January and I am SO EXCITED!

mondaytosunday · 27/09/2022 15:09

No, but maybe do it in two trips over a couple days to save your sanity!

FinallyHere · 27/09/2022 15:17

I feel like I'm going to be judged

I'm sorry you are feeling depressed and overwhelmed. I think this is contributing to your placing undue emphasis on the thought that people are judging you.

Mostly, people are just getting on with their lives, much too busy to waste time judging others.

If anyone did have an opinion on what it 'means' that someone has a lot of washing to do, would be revealing much more about themselves than about you. They don't know anything about you.

Hope this gives you the strength to call upon to get that laundry done. It will make you feel better to know it's done. All the best.

I'd just think that you had a kid with nits and are washing everything in the house out of precaution.

x2boys · 27/09/2022 15:39

I have had periods where I have had to use the launderette ( very bad experiences with washing machines breaking down on me ,] and I always wait untill have at least four bags the good thing about the launderette is the machines are huge if I bag the two biggest I can fit all my washing in,the only people I judge are those that come sauntering in just a couple of minutes before I'm due to transfer my washing to dryers ,and bag the last dryer for their washed bed sheets etc happens every time 🙄
