I made this for the first time the other week. Sounds so gross but literally cost 75p!
Microwave packet of savory rice, garlic peri peri sauce and salad cream. It's got a real kick to it and is really filling.

Toast and marmite. With cheese if available.

MangoBiscuit · 27/09/2022 11:24

We do very similar. Any veg that needs to be used up, chopped up and fried with a bit of garlic and paprika, and add in a rice packet, and an egg, and scramble. It's almost like a very lazy egg fried rice, uses up things that need to be used, only one pan to wash, feeds two, and is gluten free.

Tinned plum tomatoes on toast, plenty of malt vinegar, salt and pepper.

Any veg that's left in the fridge I'll make vegetable and lentil soup.

I always keep frozen veg in the fridge so if we literally have nothing I'll fry up some frozen peppers onion and peas with some rice and soy sauce

My Nan used to make me this all the time, I loved it!

Adding tinned tomatoes to next weeks shopping listSmile

Sardines on toast, as I usually have a tin of sardines in the cupboard.
Or
Noodle soup, made with stock/stock powder, noodles, (or there might be a gyoza or two lurking in the freezer) salad leaves, leftover vegetables, frozen or tinned vegetables. Add some soy or sweet chilli sauce to zap it up a bit.

Cabbagesoup77 · 27/09/2022 11:54

Cheapest dried pasta, boiled and served with cheese sauce made from Bisto cheese granules. Add in black pepper, herbs or chilli powder if you have any. Pennies for lunch or dinner.

GoodVibesHere · 27/09/2022 11:58

Ready-to-cook noodles. I pour soy sauce on them, ready in two minutes flat.

Steaming hot noodles in a bowl cannot be beaten! I sometimes add chilli flakes, ginger, garlic, quorn strips, veg, depends what I've got.

badgermushrooms · 27/09/2022 12:12

Just had spaghetti hoops on toast with a bit of cheese grated over the top - it was lovely.

Therealjudgejudy · 27/09/2022 12:23

@Cabbagesoup77 bisto cheese granules? How have I never heard of these???

Where do you get them if you don't mind me asking?

YumYummy · 27/09/2022 12:25

Also going to hunt these down. I'd have cheese sauce with anything.

womaninatightspot · 27/09/2022 12:32

Tinned chickpeas, tinned potatoes chop these up into quarters, tinned tomatoes. Teaspoon curry powder / pinch of anything else that might taste nice paprika, garlic paste. Simmer for five minutes. Potato and chickpea curry feeds two generously. Tastes nicer the next day if you hung half in the fridge.

Lyricallie · 27/09/2022 12:34

I bulk buy a crate of Thai curry soup noodles. So I always have them in the cupboard I chuck whatever leafy veg/frozen spinach in and top it off with a poached egg for a bit of protein. Basically cheats ramen. It's so good and warming and takes 10 minutes.

TheScenicWay · 27/09/2022 12:34

I always have a tin of chick peas or other beans lurking in a cupboard.
I fry onion, garlic and spices and seasoning then add the chick peas and chopped or tinned tomato.

MiniDinosaur · 27/09/2022 12:37

Tesco, Sainsburys Ocado etc all usually have it

TheScenicWay · 27/09/2022 12:38

I've just used a bag of frozen chopped sweet potato from the freezer and made a simple soup with red onion, garlic, ginger and stock. It's turned out really well.

Get the bisto white sauce instead and just add grated cheese. It's much more versatile. A tub of that will make up white sauce, cheese sauce and parsley sauce

Caspianberg · 27/09/2022 12:40

Roast veg, tin tomatoes, blitz. Add pasta. Gets veggies into fussy toddler, warm, uses up random bits in fridge. I make enough sauce to freeze some or have the next day as well

chesirecat99 · 27/09/2022 12:44

Ramen:

Homemade stock
Noodles
Soft boiled egg
Leftover shredded meat/fish or a spoonful of leftover chilli/bolognese etc
Frozen peas or any leftover small bits of veg
Fresh herbs and regrown spring onions from the garden (you can regrow spring onions from the roots that you cut off)

I guess, if you take energy into account, it would be cheaper to use packet noodles rather than homemade stock.

It's a good way to use up any very small amounts of leftovers.

Muu · 27/09/2022 12:44

Pasta with butter and marmite

Addicted2Sugar · 27/09/2022 12:49

Me too.

Bito won't know what's hit them.
