Thinking of getting one to beat the cold a little this winter. Please let me know any recommendations and your thoughts if you have one?

I love mine! Got it from woolroom when there was a sale on
My dad was "wool?! Whatever next!" And then bought himself one Grin

Stumpedasatree · 27/09/2022 10:10

@PeloFondo I am looking at Woolroom! Did you get the Chatsworth collection washable one? And is it warm?!

Mine is just the classic I think (it's a couple of years old now) and yes, I find it warm

Yes, DP bought one and I wasn't sure initially but now I really like it.

It's thinner, less floofy and more stiff than a feather duvet. So when you turn over, it doesn't automatically wrap itself round you. But on cold nights, you sort of tuck it in around yourself and then it feels amazing, better than a feather one somehow.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 27/09/2022 10:14

I've tried a couple of different ones over the years, but I couldn't stand the smell (from being new). I gave them to two different friends and they both said they were lovely & didn't know what I was on about with the smell! I guess I'm quite sensitive to smells though.

Mum5net · 27/09/2022 10:25

Funnily enough I put my woolroom one on last night for the first time.
Mine is the classic wool warm. Non washable. Cost me £109.
DH and I compared notes this morning. He said he didn't feel warmer (we had previously been using Duvet Store 100% goose down Hungarian 9 tog part of an All Seasons) but he liked the weight. He thought we would be warmer with the two parts of the goose down. I can't say I was any warmer either but I did feel we had less issues of DH stealing more than his share. We need more time to give a proper opinion.

ClaryFairchild · 27/09/2022 10:26

I have less allergic reaction to wool than to feathers, and it breathes better than synthetic.

Sprig1 · 27/09/2022 10:27

They are great. I liked mine so much that I went back and ordered a pillow and a mattress topper too. Mine is from Baavet. Check out their seconds section for a bargain, they also sell on Ebay too.

steelseries · 27/09/2022 10:29

I'm going to go against the grain and say I hated mine!! Lasted about a year before I swapped it for down. I got talked into it by my mum for all the positive reasons mentioned but despite buying a ridiculously expensive one, I found it thin, flimsy and didn't have that snuggly feeling I wanted from a duvet. I like the crackle of down and the cosy weight. This has neither, and I didn't even find it very warm.

gretr · 27/09/2022 10:35

Devon duvets. Mine is so snuggly. Nice weight to it too, and it looks nice and smooth when you make the bed. I love it!!

Scottishflower65 · 27/09/2022 10:41

All Baavets in our home. Lovely and warm.

Worldgonecrazy · 27/09/2022 10:43

We have wool and it took a bit of getting used to as it’s so thin and light. In the winter we add a bedspread and it’s perfect. Our other house has an in heated bedroom and for that, we stick to down.

eveoha · 27/09/2022 10:44

Devon duvets here and wool pillows - perfect temp all year around 👍🏿☘️

2bazookas · 27/09/2022 10:49

I've got a KS Australian one I bought taxfree /ridiculously cheap in Sydney airport over 20 years ago; wool duvets were very new then so I don't know how the early versions compare. It's still going strong. We live in N Scotland, never heat the bedroom and always sleep with the window open all winter. We use the cooler wool duvet through spring summer and early autumn. I've just changed the wool duvet for our winter duvet (J Lewis, high tog).

jamtomorrow1 · 27/09/2022 10:50

Yes - Woolroom sale. Ours somehow manages to be cool in summer and warm in winter. Also if you Google how they get the down/feathers off the geese and ducks to make normal duvets you will have an additional reason to make the switch 😞

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 27/09/2022 10:50

I have a Baavet, wouldn't go back to a feather one now.

FirstFallopians · 27/09/2022 10:51

Our summer duvet is from Woolroom, which I really like. We just have the classic one, which isn’t washable, the “light” version which is supposed to be a 4 tog equivalent.

I have to say though, down duvets just have a cosier vibe to them- the floofiness and the way they automatically drape around you. We have a down duvet for winter, although I don’t know if I’d buy another feather duvet knowing of the welfare issues in their manufacture.

I like having the variation of both materials- I always look forward to the seasons changing so I can swap the duvets… I just read that back and it is so tragic 😂

whirlyhead · 27/09/2022 10:51

I have an environmentally sound one made out of recycled bottles and it is incredibly warm - too warm in fact! And no animals were harmed in its production.

eveoha · 27/09/2022 11:09

Surely shearing sheep is considered to be ‘environmentally friendly’ too - 😉 anyone considering buying one pl buy a British wool one 👍🏿☘️

TheScorpionandtheFrog · 27/09/2022 11:12

Shearing sheep is not cruel and does not involve slaughtering them. Wool is 50% carbon and it holds that carbon for years. Its 100% biodegradable, and sheep can make it out of grass that can be grown on soil too shallow to support other crops.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 27/09/2022 11:16

Yes! We have the Baavet one at home and woolroom ones on the boat (no heating). Both are excellent and warmer and dryer than acrylic ones. One of my better purchases.

invisibleoldwoman · 27/09/2022 11:17

Love mine. Southdown Duvets I think I got the regular as my main problem is getting too hot and it regulates the temperature very well. It it is very cold I just put a warmer nightdress/pjs on or put a blanket or my Oodie over it. No regrets over the cost.

Joystir59 · 27/09/2022 11:19

I've got duck down duvets and they are wonderful. I've had them at least ten years. They get an annual dry clean. I wouldn't buy them again because of animal cruelty, but I'm not getting rid of them- they have years and years of use left in them.

Fozzleyplum · 27/09/2022 11:19

We bought a Woolroom duvet last year, along with a wool mattress and wool filled pillows. There was a sale on when we got ours and I think they have regular sales and offers.

We got the duvet that has 2 layers which can clip together. It's fantastic for heat regualtion; it's very warm in winter, which we need as we don't have the heating on at night, and we always leave the window open, and it's cool when the weather is warm.

silentpool · 27/09/2022 11:20

Love mine. I have a summer weight one and add blankets in winter. I find I sweat under synthetic duvets so it suits me. In summer (Australia), I switch to a cotton quilt.
