Is a wool duvet worth buying?

We need a new winter duvet and I'm sick of buying polyester ones that just don't last. I don't like feather duvet so have come across wool filled.
Does anyone have one and are they warm or are they too warm or heavy? Want an opinion befor spending so much on a duvet!

Yes it's worth buying, I love ours. It's from baavet, keep an eye on the bargain box section for a slight second
I would never go back to synthetic or feather, wool is far superior.

Yes! I got a light one for the summer as wool duvets enable you to regulate your temperature (good for peri menopause). Have been really pleased with it, so bought a second one for winter. They're not at all heavy, lighter and less bulky than polyester or feather ones. I got mine from the woolroom, who often have deals on.

They come in different weights, I have a 420g, which was too warm.on the warm nights we had but great at other times. I am generally a cold person. My dh has a 350g and that suits him fine.

I might not have got my weights spot on, but you get the gist.

Yep we have Baavet duvets - got the seconds for DP/me and DC - they had tiny marks which were quick to clean off with a damp cloth

Just a small warning - they will smell a bit sheepy for a couple of weeks - but it does fade away!

Love mine 3/4 season and really good in all seasons

Discovereads · 26/09/2022 22:36

Yes, definitely a good buy.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/09/2022 22:36

Yes. Got mine from Devon Duvets. Superb quality and customer service.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 26/09/2022 22:37

I’ve got one but don’t really rate it. It’s not warm enough for winter but it’s too hot for summer. I don’t see it’s any better than feather or polyester.

Gazelda · 26/09/2022 22:44

I adore my baavet. DH was sceptical to start, but has been quickly won over.
It's light and cosy. Hang out on a sunny day once a year to freshen it.

ElusiveWhale · 26/09/2022 22:52

Yes. No more sweating, no clamminess, just lovely.

DreamingOfSoftWhiteSand · 26/09/2022 23:01

But you can't put it in the washing machine. Yuk.

Ein · 26/09/2022 23:03

I have one, I find it way too hot and after many night sweats never use it anymore. Also it’s a nightmare to get cleaned: not supposed to dry clean it (that traps toxic chemicals in it) or wash it, the vendor said “wool doesn’t need washing, just leave it in bright sunshine” I said: “But the dog threw up on it,”

Anyway best duvets I have found were filled with silk. Amazing stuff, cool
in summer warm in winter, and machine washable. Same price as wool. Got on Amazon think the company was called something like Jasmine Silk or maybe it was Silk by Jasmine.

LordMooey · 26/09/2022 23:03

I'm still not totally convinced by ours, even though I really want to like it from an ethical PoV. It's definitely stiffer and heavier than our manky old feather duvet -- much harder to snuggle cosily round my shoulders. And once it starts off on the slide towards DH's side of the bed, it's gone! I'm sort of getting used to it after about 6 months, but wouldn't necessarily choose to buy one again.

CovIneedanamechange · 26/09/2022 23:08

We've a Baavet one and love it. (Only duvet that's come anywhere near was a silk & cashmere one but would be prohibitively expensive in s super king!)

Tereseta · 04/11/2022 21:22

I've just ordered a wool room duvet after much looking! I've never spent so much on a duvet, fingers crossed it's the one

Dh had one, but when he stored it away over summer, bugs got in and it was full of larvae when he brought it out for winter.

Farmhouse1234 · 04/11/2022 21:53

I’m just about to buy a wool duvet - any suggestions on what weight? Want it for winter, autumn - OH gets v hot and I’m always freezing. It will be an expensive mistake if I choose poorly 🫣

RandomMess · 04/11/2022 21:59

@Farmhouse1234 why don't you have a single duvet each, we slept so much better after doing this!

Or a low tog double/king with an extra single on your side inside the duvet cover?

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 04/11/2022 22:00

We have a couple but the very high quality cotton cover is crinkly and noisy so annoys me.

MaraScottie · 04/11/2022 22:01

I have a Baavet and love it. We got the super light one (our house is warm) and it's great. Definitely less 'clammy' feeling than any of our previous ones.

whirlyhead · 04/11/2022 22:03

I had a wool duvet but hated it. Too thin even though it was warm. I now have a lovely, flouncy, warm duvet made of recycled bottles which is way better. The wool duvet got chucked!

bilbodog · 04/11/2022 22:08

Have slept under a wool duvet for over 30 years now - love them. I find them warm in winter yet cool in summer. My most recent one cane from the wool room.

ThatLibraryMiss · 04/11/2022 22:18

I looked at the Baavet ones but ended up with the much-cheaper Fogarty one from Dunelm and I love it. It's pretty heavy and it drapes well. My bedroom is cold and so far I've been toasty under it. I have it in a flannelette duvet cover so it's extra snuggly.

LadyHelenaJustina · 04/11/2022 22:23

We have one and I’ve been very happy with it. It was from TK Maxx, and wasn’t that expensive.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 04/11/2022 22:26

Silk is much better imo

StillSmallVoice · 04/11/2022 22:36

Yes. Just yes.
