What is this I’ve found on my daughters head? Is it a tick?

My daughter, 5, has had a temperature of 40 all night. Been in with me, sleeping in her knickers to keep her cool. Had some calpol.

This morning I’ve woken up to take her temperature and found what I think is a tick but I’m not sure?

I’ve pulled it out - and thrown it away - but it was alive when I pulled it out. Should I get my daughter checked over by a GP?

My DD when she was 3 had Lyme disease but it was caught v v early - since then I have been so careful at covering her up whenever we were out and about

I had taken her to GP who wasn't sure (she had the tick rash) and sent us to a and e and it was a doctor who walked past our cubicle who diagnosed her as she was from the New Forest where it was rife!

Oh bless, your poor daughter. And you. Ticks are the work of the devil, vile things.
Hopefully they’ll get the right treatment to your daughter this evening.

Helpyou · 26/09/2022 20:34

I've been thinking of you all day. Please don't ever feel stupid or beat yourself up about this, ticks can be scary but can also be fine (if removed properly) but lots of people don't know how dangerous it can be. I really hope the test results come back clear and she's on the mend soon 🙏

Please be aware most doctors are not Lyme literate and please know the NHS lyme disease test is incredibly inaccurate.

I am speaking from experience, I caught Lyme disease from a tick in April and I am 10 weeks into hospital treatment at a private Lyme disease clinic.

The NHS really let me down.

Please don’t let them fob you off with anything other than a proper treatment plan.

You're in good hands at The Alex. I hope your poor DD is better soon xxx

BabbleBee · 26/09/2022 20:46

The Alex is absolutely the best place to be. I hope it all gets sorted asap.

NotaCoolMum · 26/09/2022 20:49

Fingers crossed all is okay xx

Hellocatshome · 26/09/2022 20:50

I hope she gets sorted soon bless her. I've only ever had to remove ticks from dogs and that terrified me so you were brave to tackle it on your daughter.

Tickledpickled · 26/09/2022 20:54

Museya15 · 26/09/2022 21:23

Are you all talking about Queen Alexandra's? I live in Pompey and have never ever heard it called The Alex, it's always called QA round where I am. Sorry, I'm just being curious.Anyway, I hope your daughter is on the mend, it must've been a frightening situation OP.💐

Theredtoyphone · 26/09/2022 21:25

Hope she is on the mend soon, you must all be exhausted

Poppins2016 · 26/09/2022 21:28

@Museya15 I think they're referring to the Royal Alexandra (children's hospital) in Brighton. I also know Queen Alexandra in Portsmouth as 'QA'.

mummymayhem18 · 26/09/2022 21:29

Hope she's ok and soon back home. 😊

MoCaine · 26/09/2022 21:33
