Hi all, I want to make some home-made vodka for friends and family, what flavour is gone down best and what works best?

I made one years ago with berries I think. It was LUSH. My mate however, over did it and puked up on the tube enroute home Shock

HollywoodTease · 25/09/2022 21:14

My favourites are either werthers or rolo

lilyfire · 25/09/2022 21:16

Werthers Originals are really good in vodka

I do bramble vodka - loads around in hedgerows at the moment if you have access to them

cheeseandpeanutbutter · 25/09/2022 21:18

I made one with cranberry and lime. It was delicious. If I remember correctly I had to make holes in the cranberries and fill up the bottle with those, add slices of lime zest and pour over the vodka. It looked good too in the bottle.

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 25/09/2022 21:19

Wild blackberries! Delicious and thrifty. And there are tons around in the hedgerows just now, despite the dryness of the summer.

QueenOfHiraeth · 25/09/2022 21:19

Werthers is lovely or Christmas Pudding flavour is nice if you want to be seasonal. I've made this before

Thestagshead · 25/09/2022 21:19

Werthers, it’s the most amazing toffee vodka and delicious.

Thestagshead · 25/09/2022 21:20

Also Turkish delight is really good, rose water and sugar, tastes divine.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/09/2022 21:26

Honeyberries are amazing if you can get your hands on them, or go festive with Christmas pudding flavor. So all the spices and fruit with brown suger, let it steep a few months then strain though a muslin cloth. Add some lustre dust for added sparkle too!

Snugglemonkey · 25/09/2022 21:35

Skittles

GoneFullMumAgain · 25/09/2022 21:37

Another vote for Werthers! Also rhubarb&custards…

pandora206 · 25/09/2022 21:41

I watched a YouTube demo of sloe and maple syrup vodka which I'm tempted to try, as I already have sloes in the freezer (and prefer vodka to gin).

BamBamBilla · 25/09/2022 21:43

Anything with berries needs to sit for at least a year imo theyre nice and smooth then. Stick with the sweets if they're for this coming Christmas. Pear drops or Blackcurrant and liquorice are my favourites.

hattie43 · 25/09/2022 21:53

Elderflower ? Or am I too gin obsessed 🤩

Takingabreakagain · 25/09/2022 22:05

I've recently tried toffee vodka for the first time and a Werther's one sounds delicious. Does anyone have a recipe they could share please

StopDrivingIntoMyFence · 25/09/2022 22:09

Recipe:

Get bottle of vodka
Drink some
Put Werthers in the space in the bottle
Wait

You're welcome

CatLadyDrinksGin · 25/09/2022 22:15

Definitely sweets if it’s for this Christmas, anything fruit/berry/sloe needs to infuse for a year then rest in the bottle for a few months (what we’ve just made is for Christmas 2023). Skittles is lovely but separate the colours or it’ll be murky brown. Toffee is amazing. Any sweets that’ll dissolve easily. The dishwasher method (sweets and vodka in closely sealed bottle, top shelf of dishwasher on hot cycle to dissolve) is the quickest method but if you shake the bottle daily and filter it before you decant it it’ll be fine.

@StopDrivingIntoMyFence
Thanks, I didn't realise it was as simple as that. I would have done it before if I'd realised. How long do you need to leave it to 'soak'?

I'm not sure it is quite so simple. I was just being silly. Sorry.

I think you need to heat it. I've seen people call it "Dishwasher Vodka" before. I think you can put the werthers in the space in the bottle and then put it (well sealed) through a cycle in your dishwasher if you have one. This helps the werthers or other ingredients to dissolve.

TropicalShakedown · 25/09/2022 22:31

What mixer do you use with the Wethers vodka
