I'm desperate to lose a stone

FuriousFurious · 25/09/2022 13:42

to start off with. I'm squeezing myself into clothes and am starting to feel uncomfortable!
I don't want to buy new bigger clothes. I don't even look great at the size my clothes are anyway and actually need to be two sizes below. A stone and a half would get me into the size below.
But I just can't do it!!!
I feel so stupid.
I know low carb works but I don't want to do that. I've done it before and all the weight came back on as I can't maintain a low carb lifestyle.
What else can work quickly?

Only thing that works quickly for me is being unwell for a few days unfortunately. And then I'm ravenous afterwards and it all goes back on! If there was a quick fix we'd all be doing it.

Mmmmdanone · 25/09/2022 13:53

What I'm saying is eat less move more is the only way. Which is why I'm about a stone overweight too as I don't seem able to do it for long.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 25/09/2022 13:54

I have only ever done this with calorie counting. It does work. Remember. The weight took along time to put on. It will take time to get off.

I am currently using the NHS weight loss app. It's very helpful and I'm doing stuff in a sustainable way. It works in 12 week chunks, which is more helpful than looking at the total amount I really want to lose.

I've also been making more efforts in simply cutting down car use and walking instead. I'm the kind of person who needs a reason to go for a walk. Shopping is great, as I have the added weight to help with the workout, and can only carry a limited amount home, so fewer extras. Is having a good effect on my budget, too. Have lost 2.5 stone so far.

Geeksassemble · 25/09/2022 14:20

I lost nearly a stone on the NHS weight loss app earlier this year. A lot of calorie counting though unfortunately. The only other things that have worked are cauliflower rice with everything and a bout of Covid! 🥴😂🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve heard good things about the 16:8 but I’m nowhere near disciplined enough for that! I’ve found the NHS app just about maintainable!

Good luck. Maybe try aiming for your 10,000 steps a day as well?

Babymamamama · 25/09/2022 14:22

OMAD one meal a day. Look it up on YouTube. I lost more than a stone that way. And I keep it up apart from at weekends for maintenance and the associated health benefits. It’s fine once you get over the initial week.

Fitbachick · 25/09/2022 14:26

I downloaded an app for workouts and changed my diet. I stopped fizzy juices and just drank water. I stopped crisps and sweets only allowing myself some of these once or twice a week. As knew if i stopped them altogether i would crave them.
I ate some more fruit, vegetables, chicken breast, potatoes and pasta.
Also the food traffic light system of red, yellow, green I would try and not eat anything that was red.
The app was one that was specifically for females and had different fitness levels. I did this almost every day. The ones that worked the best for me was the HIIT ones. I also upped the amount of steps that i was walking each day also. I managed to shift over a stone in weight but it did take me 3 months to do. However I have managed to keep the weight off. As was told by a friend who knows her stuff with regards to this that getting a few pounds off a week is better than a big weight loss as this is the correct way to approach it.
Good luck OP.

I think only drastic things will cause you to lose quickly, and if you couldn't keep up low carbs why would you any other drastic thing?

Afonavon · 25/09/2022 14:44

I know you said that you couldn’t maintain low carb, but it has been the only way I have kept off five stone. As long as your protein is high you will not feel hungry. I also fast 16:8 which means that once I start eating, it isn’t too long until the next meal.

Exercise just makes me hungry, but of course it helps tone up and adds to the calorie deficit. Find a sport you like, and do it for enjoyment.

Lockheart · 25/09/2022 14:55

The only way to lose weight quickly is to starve yourself, be very unwell, or cut off an appendage.

You can sustainably lose a stone in 1 - 2 months if you aim to lose ~2-3lbs a week, which is not drastic and you can do this without making drastic changes.

Watch what you eat and drink. Cut out the majority (not all) of your sweet treats and salad. Reduce portion sizes. Up your exercise. Make sure you're getting enough sleep. It will come off.

FuriousFurious · 25/09/2022 15:28

@TurquoiseDragon wow that's amazing. You must be feeling so good.

When I said quickly, I didn't mean in a week or so. I was thinking about 5-6 weeks.

The nhs app looks good. I've always wondered about Omad. I would love to do that as I want all those fasting benefits too.
It is daunting though and I am weak of will Sad
What if I started off on the nhs app and then worked towards omad in a couple of weeks or so?

Fasting is working for me
I find it easier to not eat than be "I could have this 90 cal cereal bar or an apple or.."
it's either time to eat properly or it isn't

TurquoiseDragon · 25/09/2022 16:13

@FuriousFurious I generally feel better, but today I'm knackered as I'm ripping up carpets, etc. 😁

I'm doing a bit of this - a bit half hearted, tbh, but I started off by being quite strict with myself. It has helped me eat less though - I was always picking: piece of cake with my cookie, bit of cheese while grating it, some fruit, couple of biscuits with a cup of tea ...

I'm not really bothered about breakfast, but now I try to have two days when i have nothing from dinner one day to lunch the next. Eating more or less what I want the rest of the time, but small portions and meals only. I felt really hungry the first week or two, but I'm used to it now. Started end of August and have lost half a stone. I think the last half stone will take longer, but hoping I'll be there by Christmas.

DartmoorDoughnut · 25/09/2022 16:48

Calorie counting, stopping sugar and upping steps are the only things that work for me, anything else isn’t sustainable - for me! - although I’m totally addicted to sugar and find it impossible to ignore for long. Am in the same boat, need to actually shift two stone but one stone would take me back to comfortable in clothes rather than ouch that waistband is tight

HeadAboveTheParapet · 25/09/2022 17:17

Every meal you eat load your plate with vegetables first.
At least a third of you plate.

For sweet dishes make it a third fruit.

Every meal.

Cut out alcohol if you drink.

Go for fruit, veg, protein based snacks rather than biscuit or crisps

FuriousFurious · 25/09/2022 17:40

@HeadAboveTheParapet oh those are good rules. I think I can manage that.

OP posts:
FuriousFurious · 25/09/2022 17:42

Thank you everyone. I feel a bit more hopeful.
I can't even fit into my winter coat so I'm determined to lose weight before I need it.
Starting tomorrow then.

I've lost a stone due to intermittent fasting 16:8 at first but now doing 19:5. The first two days were hard but now it's a breeze. The weight dropped quickly at first then slowed down but it does come off.

Give it a go

BlooberryBiskits · 25/09/2022 17:53

Look at the nutritarian diet : it is not a fad but a (fairly rigorous) whole food plant based way of eating

implement some ideas from that and I am sure you will lose weight

if you do the 6 week plan you certainly would

vegang · 25/09/2022 17:56

I've just lost 13lbs in a month on slimming world

vegang · 25/09/2022 17:57

I've also never been hungry on slimming world, still having normal recommended size portions of rice, pasta and potatoes and having all my usual meals just takes a while to get used
To tweaking them

IsABajan · 25/09/2022 18:00

@PeloFondo exactly how I feel with fasting. I wish I had known about it when I was younger

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2022 18:02

Nothing sustainable will work that quickly. Eat less, move a lot more and accept it will probably take a few months (and permanent changes if you want to keep it off)

alwaystrainers · 25/09/2022 18:10

I'm going back to slimming world this week. More to retrain my eating. I won't be making cake out of weetabix or anything but trying to get back to tonnes of fruit and veg which is what I find it good for?
