I think I may have made a mistake that there's no way on earth I can admit to

Except maybe here.

DS has his first serious girlfriend. She's lovely, they seem very happy, she stays here about twice a week.

As a result his room is immaculate for the first time in nearly a decade, but has also seen the introduction of air fresheners.

I hate air fresheners with a vengeance. I dislike the cloying smell and I am convinced they give me a headache and sore eyes. I have told DS they need to go, if your room smells, clean it and open a window. He swears they have all been removed, but I can still smell them in his room and the "den" they use, especially when she's here.

I think I've just realised it's not airfreshener, but her perfume.....

‘I don't think I can say "you know I've been complaining about that awful airfreshener? I think it's your perfume" 😆’

Yes, you can.

’Son, she’s a lovely girl, I am so pleased that you are happy with her. She’s welcome to come over, and as it is her perfume that is making me nauseous, please ask her not to use it before she comes over.’

😳🥵 That’s very rude.

What if it isn’t perfume, how can it be perfume if it’s still there when she’s left! Unless she sprays it around.
Is it your son? Deodorant /spray/ what have you.

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination I am the same I bought some charcoal based nose plugs that are supposed to neutralise smells. I take them in planes or anywhere I can’t change seats such as the theatre. Do they work? haven’t had to use them yet, my bloodhound nose started during menopause. I was so thankful on my last two long haul flights no one was wearing a strong scent.

@TheLongGallery

Oh I'm sorry to hear you're the same, it's so annoying isn't it!!

if you ever try the charcoal things, I'd love to know what you think of them!!

They all give me a headache & make my neck hurt (some gland I presume)
air fresheners (of any kind, plug-ins are the worst!) anything in that category room diffusers etc.

Scented candles, even unlit.

a LOT of cleaning & laundry products

they give me a headache before I can smell them.

flying can be a nightmare.

so far, unless it's really heavy & cloying I'm mostly ok with perfume/aftershave/soaps/hair care etc.

but pads/panty liners really bother me & it's not something you can ask people to remove

You can smell other peoples pads/panty liners?! 😳

the talk about poison reminds me of my mum. She would wear that and we told her it was too strong so she said she would change it.
she did for opium which was 10 times worse 😂

@Amazinganatomy yep 🤢🤮

the 'scented' ones seem to get stronger & stronger 🤮🤢 and the first thing I get is a 'headache'. It's literally an aching head (not like a pain headache) then it goes down my neck too, then I'm aware of the scent.

it's really really annoying (as well as a horrible feeling)

That is horrendous.
I get a similar reaction when I have even a very small amount of alcohol strangely enough, odd ache/pain at the back on my head/neck which then moves onto my shoulders (only way I can describe it is as if someone is sat on my shoulders).

I do feel for you though, atleast I can control what I drink.
