Do I have unrealistic expectations re window cleaner?

2 bed flat on the 2nd floor. £35.City in Scotland.

He's done it all without coming into the actual flat. So just done from the ground or on a ladder (I didn't see) with a brush on a stick (I did see this) and he's only done the outsides of the windows, I'll still have to do the insides myself. He didn't dry them off and although they look better, they are not completely clean. Still a trace of bird poop on one.

What do you think?
Thanks

I feel I've been robbed! £40 last week for 5 bed detached, all sills etc with telescopic brush. Was pleased at the time!

CosyRosiePosy · 21/09/2022 17:15

Definitely sounds expensive. We pay £11.50 for a 3-bed house in the south east.

Ah that's not too bad if you've had all your bits done

My window cleaner charges £8 for all windows on a 4 bed detached house in scotland using the water fed system

Norugratsatall · 21/09/2022 17:16

Gosh £35?! I'm in the SE, large 4 bed house, many windows, it costs me £17. Plus my window cleaner does it the old fashioned way, up a ladder and uses a squeegee to get rid of excess water. Nice clean windows and no drips or smears.

Cornishmumofone · 21/09/2022 17:16

I pay £35 every 3 months to have 15 windows/doors done.

Just windows though not window sills or other bits of pvc

Isleoftights · 21/09/2022 17:17

£10....12 windows, two floors, every month. West Yorkshire. Brush/pole system. Does good job

KnottyKnitting · 21/09/2022 17:18

Window cleaners don't usually do the insides of the windows but blimey £35 seems really steep for a two bed flat.

We pay £22 for a four bed house ( around 16 windows, 2 glazed doors and the outside of a large conservatory. We are in an expensive commuter town near London.

TugboatAnnie · 21/09/2022 17:18

Actually, I've totted up the windows and patio doors and there's quite a lot of work. Ok, feel good again.

Michellebops · 21/09/2022 17:18

I'm near Glasgow- new window cleaner started yesterday, 3 bed semi. Did all windows, doors and pvc fascia's for £15 for first wash then £8.50 for future washes.

£35 seems very expensive.

I've never had a window cleaner come into any of my houses to do the inside, did you discuss that with them? Perhaps you can come to some arrangement

Lolloped · 21/09/2022 17:19

Ive never known a window cleaner to come inside. My cleaner does indoors and the window cleaner outside.

TheTeddyBears · 21/09/2022 17:20

That's pretty standard for flats when using the big long poles. That's some price though! I thought I was expensive £10 for 4 bed detached house in central Scotland. He does it on ladders and wipes edges so it's a better job. Did u get quotes for inside as part of price or we're u assuming it would be. £35 is expensive for what they've done but it's not standard that they wld do inside.

Talipesmum · 21/09/2022 17:21

Like everyone says, it’s not usual for them to do the inside of the windows too - I’ve never even heard of this as a possibility. Our cleaner does the inside, or we do. People are responding the way they are because it’s outside of the normal range of service delivered by window cleaners. Ask them and see what they say - they might do it but I’m sure they’d charge extra.

DoAllMyOwnStunts · 21/09/2022 17:22

Thanks everyone. Maybe my last window cleaner was just overly helpful. (A rare perk of being obviously mobility-impaired is that sometimes people do go the extra mile for you!) Perhaps I will ask this new guy if he can do it from in the flat and do the insides as well.

Ever heard of giving the full picture so people can help?

I'm surprised by how much the above has upset me.

There I am, starting a post online about window cleaning and no, yet, again, it's all got to be different because I am disabled. Fuck. My. Life.

Anyway, thanks to those who answered my questions.

Coming inside is quite old-fashioned I think. Our window cleaner when I was a child used to do outside and in and it was pretty common, but that doesn't happen now.

Hugasauras · 21/09/2022 18:05

That said, you might find someone of the older school persuasion (bucket and squeegee) who might do insides! Our guy is probably still on the go Grin

Maybe! Hope you find someone. It makes such a difference being able to see clearly outside.

How about instead of writing ‘sorry’ you just don’t write the rude sentence that precedes it?

WTAF. Have you read OP's posts? They used to have someone who did clean inside and out.

strawberry2017 · 21/09/2022 18:30

I pay £12.50 and I've got an old school window cleaner with his bucket,
I'm in Yorkshire!

Nat6999 · 21/09/2022 18:31

Most use a water fed pole for anything more than 2 floors.

Hillrunning · 21/09/2022 18:31

We are in Yorkshire, £12 for telescopic brush for a large three story house. You are being ripped off.
