Quitting everything - What would you do

I have to close my business after Christmas. Sadly just not viable anymore.

I am trying to create a list of things I can do to get excited for January. I'm looking for things that can potentially generate an income but are fun or different. I will have at least six months where I can live on savings, but will probably only this a break for three or four while I create a plan. I have no kids but do have a DP. My DP and I keep finances separate and live apart.

Things I can do

  • Apply to be on a TV show
  • Apply to be an extra in a movie
  • Write a fun Children's book
  • House sit and pet sit
  • I can enter a writing competition with a cash prize
  • I can renovate my flat to potentially rent out my spare room on air bnb if needed
  • Sell my feet pics on only fans (half joking)

Anything else?

I’m here for it 😂 be in the audience of loose women is an obvious addition to the list… no? Just me?

Acheyknees · 19/09/2022 20:18

Chalet girl in ski resort?

pickledpizzatrain · 19/09/2022 20:24

Chalet girl seems fun, but I do have a flat I own and would need to figure out if I could rent it first

It would be fun to be in the audience of a TV show

I have also considered medial experiments or other experiments, out of curiosity and for the cash!

What do you do OP? Is there no way to make it viable?

StridTheKiller · 19/09/2022 20:49

Start an Onlyfans page 😁

pickledpizzatrain · 19/09/2022 21:10

@underneaththeash gifting, it will pick back up but its been a struggle this year

I saw an advert for a two week clinical trial for flu paying £3.5k earlier!

pickledpizzatrain · 19/09/2022 22:02

@LaPufalina wow I would have the flu for £3.5k!

There’s a money matters board on here, or Beermoneyuk on Reddit or makemoneywithoutajob that all have sign up offers where new apps pay you.

KateBushyTail · 19/09/2022 22:15

And the make £10 a day thread in money matters. You can obviously aim for more

I saw this as well, and my 23 yo DD said she would be up for it - all paid for in London, and they only give some of the test group the flu, some have placebos. Her Grandad had a complete hissy fit about it, so she is not doing it. Actually some of the "paid jobs abroad with accom" might fit the bill if it suits your sense of adventure - depends what, of course, you can do with your present digs. Good luck x

pickledpizzatrain · 19/09/2022 22:58

I can't find this two week trial anywhere, does anyone have a link?

buying stuff cheap and selling it kess cheap on Amazon / eBay?

sorry your business is folding op. That sounds tough

ThunderstomsAreComing · 19/09/2022 23:08

hi @pickledpizzatrain

I thought about becoming an extra when I was made redundant, but had too many home responsibilities (kids, dogs) to make a career of it. I signed up to this agency. If I'd been free to travel I think it might have been a viable job. Some parts of the country obviously more popular for filming than others.

Work abroad for 3 months. How old are you? If you're under 30 its easy to get visas in places like NZ, Aus, Canada for short term (backpacker) work.

PersonaNonGarter · 19/09/2022 23:25

Could you tutor or nanny? Could you run a craft course?

pompomdaisy · 20/09/2022 00:14

Get a job?

JenJones5 · 20/09/2022 00:17

I’m surprised it took so long for the suggestion above to come up, but it’s clearly the most sensible one OP; why don’t you get a job?

ClottedCreamAndStrawberries · 20/09/2022 06:37

pickledpizzatrain · 19/09/2022 22:02

And, you might get the placebo injection 😆

BertieBotts · 20/09/2022 07:03

Join a temping agency. The pay is typically minimum wage (which is better than most of the work at home stuff) and sometimes you meet people in the places you get work that can give you a foot in the door for a permanent job.

mondaytosunday · 20/09/2022 08:06

With that list I thought you must be joking. You don't get money to be in the audience of a tv show, are you thinking of being a contestant? That's a long shot.
You could approach an agency about being an extra though - must be willing to travel at the drop of a hat.
Half the world wants to write a childrens book. Harder than you think and better luck being self published.
House sit/pet sit - might give you some money, you need to register with an agency.
Writing competition? This seems very pie in the sky.
Renting out a room? More logical than your other ideas.
Only fans? No idea how that works.

Your ideas are generally unrealistic and hardly going to net you more than a small amount even if successful (other than Airbnb). Certainly nothing coming in for months with some.
Temping or working at a supermarket seems a better bet.

LaPufalina · 20/09/2022 10:38

I'll put the link up if I get it suggested again 🤒 🤧

pickledpizzatrain · 20/09/2022 11:44

@ThunderstomsAreComing thank you :) I love this suggestion

And for those who are asking about a job, I really just need a break to figure out my next step. I don't need to make money for a few months but if I can make a bit here and there it reduces the pressure.

Blowing through your savings rather than getting a job seems crazy. What happens when they are gone and you’ve still not come up with your next scheme?

pickledpizzatrain · 20/09/2022 12:45

@JenJones5

I'm taking this time out to clear my head and figure out what I want to do
