How does all this work if it pours with rain?

Watching the funeral procession

I often wonder this about big events. What if it pours with rain - how would they conduct this whole thing?

I just asked DP the same. He said 'we are British, we carry on in all weather'

So I assume they just get wet?

Bumply · 19/09/2022 12:25

Damply

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/09/2022 12:26

Yes - I can’t imagine they would be able to carry umbrellas

Guests get umbrellas, those in uniform get wet. I imagine if the coffin was outside uncovered it would also get wet. They can't stop and wait for rain to pass, there's no special covers to go over them as that would block the view of the people and cameras

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/09/2022 12:27

Surely they wouldn’t let the coffin / Crown Jewels get wet though

They all get wet! Jesus wept.

Why?

Cloud seeding?

LadyEloise1 · 19/09/2022 12:32

Thankfully the weather has behaved.

Are the diamonds made of sugar? will they melt?

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 19/09/2022 12:35

We are British. We keep calm and carry on 🇬🇧

I don't know the science, but weather modifications have been used in history and I would presume, with events like these, that weather modification methods have been used.

Confused oh dear

It’s just an innocent question. No need for people to be snippy.

I gues the fur/fabric parts of the crown are replaceable. The plumed soldiers would look very bedraggled. But basically they just do the best they can. Wasn't Arthur, Prince of Wales, buried in Worcester Cathedral because the wet weather made the roads so bad they couldn't get him to London?

Bloodyusernamechangefailagain · 19/09/2022 12:44

The Crown jewels are precious metal so wont rust in a bit of drizzle!
The feathered plumes might look a bit sad though!

I did wonder how they've attached the sceptre, crown and orb to the top of her coffin. Spikes on the lid to stop them sliding off?

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2022 12:47

I wondered the same OP. Don’t worry. So it would be just the same as this with everything soaking wet. Water in the trumpets etc

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/09/2022 12:47

A bit of drizzle is one thing but what about a full on downpour or thunderstorms

I was wondering this too. So many questions.

I think very high winds would be more of a problem, imagine the procession with all the hats blowing off!!

All fine apparently. 🤷‍♀️Hope the lightning doesn’t reach the Crown. 😂

I would assume a common sense approach - downpour: get on with it
thunderstorms involving a risk to life: alternate arrangements

Maybe they looked at the long forecast and hoped the Met office would get it right.
