How does all this work if it pours with rain?

Watching the funeral procession

I often wonder this about big events. What if it pours with rain - how would they conduct this whole thing?

I don't know the science, but weather modifications have been used in history and I would presume, with events like these, that weather modification methods have been used.

Confused oh dear

why the oh dear ? Surely you have read some of history and university level source books about the subject ?

That's just an example from as far back as 1977,

Fruit cake, anyone?

I was wondering whether the crown, orb and sceptre are stuck on the coffin with Velcro, but spikes sounds like a better guess

Gosh, really.
If weather modification was actually a possibility don't you think it would have been used to create some much needed rain this summer?
I live in the real world thanks.

I was thinking the other day what if it had been the hottest day of the year. Can you imagine, all those crowds!

The jewels were fastened to the coffin. The Crown Jeweller was there in St George's Chapel to remove them so they could be placed on the altar.

as to 'what if it rained' - it did, at the Coronation. The Queen of Tonga was a big hit because she insisted on driving in the procession in an open carriage despite the weather, and waved to the crowds throughout.

Surely they wouldn’t let the coffin / Crown Jewels get wet though

Service personnel and horses .horseguards operate in rain so are waterproof. The orb sceptre and crown are solid metal/jewels so waterproof.

Everything else is replaceable and they no doubt had spare royal ensigns/ purple cushions/ replacement flowers on hand to change as they entered Westminster/St George's chapel.

Royalty would have processed behind the gun carriage, very slowly, inside a car.

I did wonder how they've attached the sceptre, crown and orb to the top of her coffin. Spikes on the lid to stop them sliding off?

Yes, the holding attachments were visible if you watched closely.

The crown isn't all metal and jewels, I would imagine the velvet and fur would need to be protected from heavy rain.
