Looking for next year and need some inspiration.

2 teenage DC's, who like outdoorsy stuff.

In the Midlands so can travel to most places.

OP posts:

Jersey if that counts as UK (I know it isn't officially).

Otherwise Scotland - Loch Lomond/Trossachs area.

QuitMoaning · 17/09/2022 19:21

Plymouth. Stayed in Landmark Trust property (Crownhill Fort) for the first five days and then a week in a lodge in cheddar.
The fort was amazing and there was a lot to do around Plymouth with military links and lots of water sports.

Cheddar was good with lots of caves and walking etc.

PolkaDotMankini · 17/09/2022 19:21

The Peak District, staying in a cottage at Monsal Head. We went on bike rides on the Monsal Trail, abseiling off one of its bridges, and on lots of beautiful walks. The trouble is, it was so perfect that we don't want to risk ruining it by going back!

Choconut · 17/09/2022 19:22

Snowdonia - just beautiful. Or the very end of Cornwall - Minack theatre, Porthcurno, St Micheal's Mount. Woolacombe is another fave. Sorry I know you only asked for one! If you get the right weather the UK can be stunning.

30not13 · 17/09/2022 19:22

Scotland. Aviemore area is great for outdoorsy types.

confusedlots · 17/09/2022 19:22

We love Wales and Cornwall.

Noooo don't holiday in Plymouth people - although the Barbican and Hoe are ok. I suppose.

Devon - great walks, both coastal and on Dartmoor, beautiful beaches and great weather.

We're in Scotland and if I were to stay closer to home, Plockton/Skye was also a great base for exploring the Western Highlands/part of the NC500, and I love Oban/Mull, but you're definitely less lucky with the weather/midges.

Two favourites. The Lizard in Cornwall. Cheaper and quieter than most of the county. Surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, coast path walks. Falmouth close by with Maritime museum and boats trips, St Mawes is lovely, and Pendennis castle. St Michaels Mount close by. Helford river you can cross by boat and walk to Glendurgan gardens (NT).

Pembrokeshire for coast path walks, gorgeous beaches, boat trips to see seals, porpoises, puffins etc. Folly Farm has a zoo and vintage fair ground. My teens still love it after many visits (DH is a local so we go every year to see the in-laws).

Polkerris in Cornwall (stayed on the caravan park above it). Amazing little bay, jumping off the harbour and messing around on stand up paddle boards kept 4 teenagers amused for a full week. We walked to Fowey for ice creams and beer and shopping and a silly little land-train ride that we all oddly loved.

RoseMartha · 17/09/2022 19:32

Cornwall
Lake District
Scottish Highlands

Ipadannie · 17/09/2022 19:32

Lonelycrab · 17/09/2022 19:33

Snowdonia for me too. Recently been staying near Barmouth Dolgellau area but Betws good too. If the weathers on your side it is beautiful.

DontKeepTheFaith · 17/09/2022 19:37

Anglesey
Lake district if the teens will climb peaks, we had one mountain goat and one we had to drag up🤣
Peak district is less challenging walking but both dses loved it.

Have you really just named the two bordering countries? I think the OP was looking for something a bit more specific Grin

OP have they got specific activities in mind? Snowdonia has the zip line and bounce below.

Dorset - round bridport and coast
Northumbria - if you are hardy enough to go in the water or you have a wetsuit! Also has the benefit of Newcastle which is a great city to visit
Pembrokeshire. Another fabulous coast.
I realise all my suggestions are beach based but they have all been amazing!

CMOTDibbler · 17/09/2022 19:42

We just had two amazing weeks on the north Norfolk coast. The first week we were in Sea Palling and the assorted teenagers loved it as we were so close to the beach and you could always swim/ snorkel/ paddleboard / bodyboard and they could walk to the shop for ice cream or whatever. Lovely walks and cycling and a short drive to canoe or paddleboard on the broads

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 17/09/2022 19:42

Cornwall. We stayed in Sennen and the caravan place was a dive and the weather wasn't great but the beaches were amazing. We had so much fun exploring the area. The kids were all little so I don't think we would have so much fun now with grumpy teens but we have great memories of that holiday.
