Would it be disrespectful to do anything other than stay inside

on the day of the Queen's funeral?

Everywhere is shut so it's not like you can go and have coffee or go shopping anyway.

What about going for a walk with a friend any, going for a run or meeting up at a friends house to catch up? Would any of these be deemed inappropriate?

OP posts:

This is crazy! Do what you want to do with your day!

I am looking forward to the State Funeral simply because I have never seen one!

DeanStockwelll · 15/09/2022 23:52

I have to work , and because the public transport is much reduced I have to get a cab , they are charging time & half so it's going to cost me 2.5 hrs pay just to get to work .

Galarunner · 15/09/2022 23:54

If its a nice day I'm going the seaside with my daughter, head to quiet beach with a flask and a picnic. Have a swim and let the dog have a run around.

Anothernamechangeplease · 15/09/2022 23:54

OP, the only people who will know that you've gone outside are other people who have also gone outside. Who presumably won't consider it to be inappropriate!

Do what you like. You are not required to mourn or watch the funeral!

Numbat2022 · 16/09/2022 00:02

Do whatever you want. It's not lockdown!

@Janesdufflecoat

Given the previous one was 1965 for Winston Churchill it's not entirely surprising you haven't seen one before 🤣

GreenClock · 16/09/2022 00:08

I’m meeting some friends in the pub at 12.30. My gym is open so I’ll go there first thing. I might watch a bit of the funeral whilst I’m pottering about but I’m not that bothered.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 16/09/2022 00:09

i might go to Windsor, but if not I'll go for a walk around the lake , then watch it on the TV.

I'd love to go to london, but I'm not well enough to cope with the crowds & being SO short I can never see anything!!

🙄 yes I realise that - that's was the whole fucking point of my post! There hasn't been one in my lifetime hence I want to see one!

Is no one else just the least bit curious because I find that odd!

Janesdufflecoat · 16/09/2022 00:17

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination just realised that I quoted the wrong post & took your post in the wrong spirit so I apologise for that!

I do just find the blanket - I'm not interested in it - so hard to understand when it's something so historical!

camelfinger · 16/09/2022 00:19

No, do what you like. Any of the people who think otherwise would be sitting on the sofa glued to their screens anyway, so they wouldn’t know.
I’m looking forward to a day of pottering about, might go out for a walk.

HeddaGarbled · 16/09/2022 00:21

Disrespectful would be watching the funeral in a public place whilst abusing the Queen. Going about your normal life, not interfering with, nor upsetting anyone else, is in no way disrespectful. I’m thinking of driving over to see my mum, make sure she’s OK, hoping the roads will be quiet.

Katypyee · 16/09/2022 00:31

Not disrespectful at all. I am just going to go about my life. Walk the dog. Enjoy my day off. I will not be watching the funeral.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 16/09/2022 00:37

We're having a beach bbq 😁
Not everyone is obliged to be a royalist or mourn a stranger! I feel some maybe have forgotten this.

Oldrockingchair · 16/09/2022 06:27

Going out cycling, making the most of quiet roads (despite British cycling’s message to the contrary 🙄)

We’re going to the pub. Day drinking in her honour. 😂

That's the spirit.

I doubt they'll be open!

Bearsan · 16/09/2022 06:44

We're on holiday. Nothing's been mentioned so far thank fuck for small mercies Sanity reigns over here and we never use the tv abroad.
We'll be enjoying our last couple of days swimming in the sea and having a wonderful time including drinking cocktails and champagne and dancing the night away as we always do of an holiday evening. A lot of people from the UK here not even heard one word spoken about any of it.

Singleandproud · 16/09/2022 06:53

I'd do what you want but be mindful that large numbers of emergency services have been redirected to London to support the increased population. So I wouldn't be doing anything that potentially involved needing help from one of those.

carefullycourageous · 16/09/2022 06:56

Is no one else just the least bit curious because I find that odd! I don't see what there is to be curious about, I haven't seen a state funeral but I know what they are. I don't need to be there to know what will happen.

feathermucker · 16/09/2022 07:01

Quveas · 15/09/2022 22:48

I intend to do whatever I would normally do on any day of the week. I certainly have no intentions of staying inside. And I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks is appropriate.

This.

BarrelOfOtters · 16/09/2022 07:02

Might watch the funeral…but more likely to be out with the dog having a day off.

AngelinaFibres · 16/09/2022 07:02

My husband is intending to play golf. Many courses are closed , but his isn't, so he is playing.

mountainsunsets · 16/09/2022 07:03

I'll be enjoying a day off Grin

This week has been mad busy for me at work, so I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet. Will probably take the dog out, have a nap and maybe get a takeaway in the evening.

Ifailed · 16/09/2022 07:09

it's something so historical!
Unless something unusual happens at the funeral, it's not of any historical importance. The succession of Charles is a date that future school kids may have to learn, that's about it.
