Washing machine recommendations - one with a 'quick wash' facility. Any suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced washing machine? My old one is done for. Preferably with a good energy rating, and the ability to do a quick wash of about 30 minutes. My current machine allowed a 20 minute wash but only at 20 degrees.

We can see this thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with lots of great options loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I have a Hotpoint washing machine which has a quick wash - 30° for 30 minutes, a longer quick wash - any degrees for 60 minutes plus all the other programmes. The normal 40° wash is just under 3 hours which I'll use if I have the time otherwise I use the hour programme most of the time.

Also have a Hotpoint that has a 30, 45 or 1 hour wash. Also has an energy save button that either lengthens or shortens the time depending on the programme.
Also can adjust the temperature of each wash.

I've just got this one and love it.

It does a 14 minute quick wash at 20° with a slow-ish spin but you can change those options to warmer and the top spin and it's about 25 minutes. I've noticed it waaaaaay more expensive than when I got it at £400 on offer though 😬

@tapdancingmum - do you mind me asking what model your Hotpoint machine is please?

We recently bought a Haier. There are quick cycles and many have i-time which means you choose how long you want the cycle to be. Depending on how dirty things are or how much time you have. Also it is super quiet and the light goes out inside after 2 minutes and you can't see inside after that.

Do be aware that the quick washes use more energy.

Depends on the machine. My quick wash uses less energy and less water (it has these values in the manual) but doesn't wash very well

Floralnomad · 18/09/2022 15:04

My Bosch does a 15 or 30 minute quick wash ( weight dependent) and also has a 59 minute mixed wash . We got it about 18 months ago and I specifically went for this model because it had the option of shorter programmes .

Hotpoint

Got a 9 minute refresh cycle, 15 mins, 30 mins quick wash and 60 mins fast wash at 60 degrees. Thats all I use

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 18/09/2022 15:11

I bought a Samsung a couple of years ago and can’t fault it.

It definitely wasn’t the cheapest - I think about £550? - but it has a 15 minute quick wash at 30, but you can change the settings. I normally do a 30 degree wash with bubble which makes the cycle about 30 minutes, if I need a quick wash.

Whenever I ask our neighbour who is an appliance repair engineer which brand of washing machine or dishwasher etc I should buy he always says anything from Bosch/Siemens group is most durable ..and easy to repair.

bippertybop · 18/09/2022 15:55

And just to echo earlier posts.. quick washes often use the most energy and water.

When we got our new Bosch dishwasher recently I was surprised to see that the eco setting ran for more than four hours. We are used to about two hours for a full load so I quickly discounted the four hour load as being OTT. However when I looked in the manual it uses far less energy and water. We now

bippertybop · 18/09/2022 15:55

Only use eco!

tapdancingmum · 19/09/2022 20:08

Sorry, only just seen this. It is a Hotpoint WMFUG942.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 21/09/2022 12:33

Finally decided on a washer. It's here. Panic yesterday about if the transit bolts were removed (they were). Bit surprised to see the manual stating only to use liquid detergents - have a whole heap of powder left to use. Wondering if that's normal these days.

Might be a deal that they have with a detergent manufacturer? I thought the powders were meant to be better for the machines. Does it really say only, or does it say for best results? Or is this one that self-doses - I understand you can only use liquids with that function, but you could put powder or a pod directly in the drum.

StillMedusa · 23/09/2022 08:53

I have a Hoover 10kg load 'Dynamic NEXT'
Brilliant (and was quite cheap)
It has a 14m quick wash setting. Probably not the most eco efficient on that setting but when needed... fab!
If I'm not in a hurry I use the 'daily' 59m setting.

We have the same. I'm forever changing the temp and spin speeds on the daily programme to suit and use it for nearly all washes

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 23/09/2022 12:07

My machine is also a Hoover, though a 9kg. It also has a 14 min that will be useful.

@BertieBotts - actually, I'm thinking now that the warning to only use liquids was referring to pre-wash and additives as the 'warning' box was right after the bit for those compartments. Though it really wasn't clear. Later in the manual they refer to powder, so it must be allowed. It it isn't and the machine fails, I'll be back here asking for recommendations again....
