Following, as am interested in this!

Italy loves the British Royal Family and follows all the gossip. What’s shown on TV is usually respectful but the weekly magazines rip into them.
On the day the Queen died RAI 1 showed a previously made film of her life. I think it was her 70-year Jubilee documentary.
We got live and simultaneously translated coverage of Charles’ first speech and I expect we’ll also get an abridged version of the funeral, it’s broadcast in Eurovision AFAIK.

We were on the E coast of the US, Massachusetts, when the news broke (still here). There was more or less an entire front page, plus some inside coverage, in both The Boston Globe and the NY Times the day after.

I haven’t seen any papers since, and we haven’t seen any local TV news. I catch up to some extent via the BBC online.

Zippedydoo123 · 14/09/2022 16:49

If u ever watch Euronews or Al Jazeera channels u will still see it covered on those too.

fallinover · 14/09/2022 16:52

CNN (USA) have moved to London currently as far as I can see.
A full panel pouring over every detail.

EdwinsActsOfKindness · 14/09/2022 16:55

I’m in Denmark.

They covered from when she was reported as under ‘medical care’ last week. There were quite a few articles and lots of info when she died and a few days afterwards (covering both what was happening in the UK and looking back over her life). They still have a daily article now (eg, just checked and the latest one is reporting on Brits who have camped out overnight in tents to see her coffin).

The golden jubilee of the Danish queen should have been celebrated last weekend but that was mainly postponed out of respect (eg, she should have come out on the balcony to wave etc but didn’t).

Its definitely not swamping any other news though.

US here. Yes - loads of media coverage on NPR (radio) which is what I mostly listen to. People are fascinated and loads of people have offered me condolences at work!

Ohahjustalittlebit · 14/09/2022 17:03

Ireland. Just on the normal news.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 14/09/2022 17:06

I was just in Paris and the news channels in the hotel covered nothing else on Friday and Saturday.

DiDonk · 14/09/2022 17:07

France here, totally Queen crazy, top story TV and radio news, wall to wall papers for a couple of days. Then lots of stuff about how we're republicans but love a monarch.

doradoo · 14/09/2022 17:08

Germany — lots of coverage across the media, flags at half mast in lots of places, funeral being shown on several channels.

Antarcticant · 14/09/2022 17:09

Just following as this is interesting.

Whiskers4 · 14/09/2022 17:10

I haven't looked at Al Jazeera since the Queen's passing, but they were reporting equally the same as BBC and Sky on Tuesday afternoon last week.

Yes on Irish channels but most people in Ireland have all the uk channels too so it is wall to wall on those obviously.

fallinover · 14/09/2022 17:12

@VeryQuaintIrene yes, I was surprised to switch the radio on in the car (npr) and hear the full speech from Charles as the UK heard it.

DonnaHaywood · 14/09/2022 17:12

In Spain, it was wall to wall coverage on TV the night she died. I haven't watched TV news since, but there are still several articles every day in the papers, many about connections to the Spanish royal family.

I hadn't realised until now that they translate royal names here - it's strange seeing them called Isobel II and Carlos III

Irish here too and on our normal news, along with some extra programming of the Queens visit to Ireland in 2011.

As pp has said, we have British channels too so I've had BBC on for most of the week. The procession today was beautiful, such a tribute to a wonderful woman.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 14/09/2022 17:18

Lots on Canadian news. And a day of mourning announced for Monday

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 14/09/2022 17:21

Several articles a day on it in Canada, but it’s one news item among many and is moving farther and farther down the front page with each passing day (today, buried under COVID, inflation, stock market dip, some random GP from Massachusetts who couldn’t get a medical license in Newfoundland…)

I’ve noticed that the tone of reporting on the CBC (our BBC) is also… nuanced. Not republican per se, but quick to point out the problematic historical and current relationships between the Crown and indigenous peoples, respect for Queen Elizabeth but scepticism about King Charles…

She was our queen, but I don’t hear anyone talking about her in real life, other than an occasional “did you hear - too bad”. There was speculation about whether there would be a public holiday for the funeral. In some small provinces, yes, but in the bigger ones, nope.

I think a lot of people here had a degree of respect for Queen Elizabeth, but the news we’re seeing from the UK feels surreal and anachronistic.

theDudesmummy · 14/09/2022 17:21

In Ireland I imagine many people will be watching the BBC, as I am. Driving around I can see some TVs on in front rooms with the BBC coverage on.

Yes, but what the heck is a “day of mourning”? My work calendar hasn’t changed at all. I’m not sure what time the funeral is at, but I’m 100% sure meetings won’t be moved for it. My DH got an email from his employer explicitly stating that (…which felt in poor taste, to be honest). We haven’t heard about any school events.

Everyone I know here has been avoiding BBC precisely because of the wall to wall coverage. Most of yesterday’s coverage on RTE focused on Charles’ visit to NI, any potential benefit to be gained from getting everyone in the same room while Stormont is suspended (none), and any shift likely to be caused by the change of royal personnel in the likelihood of a united Ireland. The monarchy has traditionally been such a rallying point for unionists, especially given the British government’s complete lack of interest in NI.

mirro · 14/09/2022 17:25

In the US CNN MSNBC all covering a great deal....other major non cable networks are broadcasting from London and do "breaking news" cut ins when an event such as today's movement to the church takes place. Many Americans are very interested in the pageantry and proceedings and feel a sense of loss from the Queens passing.
