That really made me emotional seeing her coffin drive through Buckingham Palace gates 😢

I'm not hugely soppy, but the motorbike outriders with their heads bowed made me well up.

I think it was the juxtaposition of looking so modern but so traditionally respectful. I dunno, anyway. Sniff.

JoeyThePrawn · 13/09/2022 20:42

Ditto @MomwasCasual

JackieQueen · 13/09/2022 21:08

Agreed. 😥It sounded like Mary Nightingale was struggling to keep her composure as well, I thought she done so well.

Welcome home.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2022 21:24

I don't think the Palace was ever 'home' for her. It was Windsor or Balmoral.

Celticandco · 13/09/2022 21:25

Me too, I had my first proper good sob about it seeing everyone lined up on the A40 in the dark and rain, all those people!

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2022 21:27

I just watched

It looked amazing, the night, rain, queues and the palace

Attictroll · 13/09/2022 21:29

I thought she didn't like Buckingham palace and referred to it as "the office"

Yes didn't she describe it as 'the office'?

I agree with the pp who said about the whooping, whistling and cheering was inappropriate. Made me cringe to be honest. Applause I don't have a problem with but whooping and cheering like they would at a pop concert- just no.

mrsbyers · 13/09/2022 21:44

Home is Windsor , that’s where she will be finally at rest

daisydoods · 13/09/2022 21:58

Agree about seeing the outriders with their heads bowed, the people in the rain... it's just so sad

OhTheLeetleHandsAndFeetle · 13/09/2022 22:01

The family, especially the King, must be exhausted.

RoseAndRose · 13/09/2022 22:04

It's not exactly home

But it's the building where she belonged to the nation - they drove her in to the inner courtyard through the arch under the balcony.

Bretonbear · 13/09/2022 22:04

The Queen is at one of her many homes.

GirlsTalk250 · 13/09/2022 22:07

The outriders’ gesture was lovely.
The cheering, although well intended, felt SO inappropriate IMO.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/09/2022 22:41

I was a bit choked up when I saw the coffin was illuminated with clear windows so everyone could clearly see her
She was a very practical woman who planned her send off well

Janesdufflecoat · 13/09/2022 23:09

Poor Princess Anne must be knackered! She's done 6 hours in the car to Edinburgh, the flight etc she's in her 70's herself!

When she came out onto the balcony at Buckingham Palace at the end of the Jubilee I had a feeling it would be the last time we saw her there! So in a way it was good to see her back!

BMW6 · 13/09/2022 23:12

Was very moved by the thousands of people along the route in every possible standing place, in the rain for no other reason than simply to be there as she passed by.

Motorcycleemptyness · 13/09/2022 23:24

Didn’t she live in Windsor?

Hellocatshome · 13/09/2022 23:27

I felt more emotional when she left Scotland than when she arrived at Buckingham Palace. I feel like when she left Balmoral she left home now she is just back to the office.

DillDanding · 13/09/2022 23:31

Not a royal follower, but I don’t think she held any fondness for Buckingham palace. And certainly didn’t regard it as ‘home’.

JamMakingWannaBe · 13/09/2022 23:34

Very sad she's left Scotland just because it means we're one day closer to the final goodbye.

I'm glad everyone got her back to London safely.

I hope the Princess Royal and Sir Tim finally get a good night's sleep back in their own home/bed.

StrawberryPot · 14/09/2022 00:02

Home is Gatcombe in Gloucestershire. I don't imagine they'll be back there tonight. They must both be absolutely shattered.

MoveMore · 14/09/2022 00:02

No I think BP was a office in the end although perhaps more a home when younger (although I think they always went to Windsor on weekends?). She died at her summer family home (Balmoral) and since leaving there it’s been the “public duty” part of the process which will last until she returns to her Windsor home and final private resting place.

Bukhara · 14/09/2022 00:08

The thing that struck me was how dangerous it must surely have been with people stopping their cars on major roads and getting out…?
