Do you do weird stuff like this?

I'm curious because I've just been took the piss out of after admitting to my friend: I often 'act out' in my head that I'm vlogging (going on social media and updating followers about my day/general life updates). I won't speak aloud but I'll recite it in my head as if I was updating followers about my life BlushGrin

There has to be other people out there who doing weird stuff along the same lines? (I hope)? Grin please share!

I do it sometimes when I'm cooking to amuse myself because I hate it so much, I'm adding these finely chopped onions to the pan, I'll leave them to brown while I dice a pepper etc 😂

pinkyredrose · 13/09/2022 16:05

I sometimes do things as though I'm being filmed too, cooking etc. Not sure why but i enjoy it!

Inclinedtochatter · 13/09/2022 16:16

My friend does it when she is showing me a plant or whatever in her garden. She starts wandering around like she is presenting Gardeners World or something!

Ladyof2022 · 25/11/2022 03:58

Yes, I speak a narrative out loud whilst getting on with chores indoors. I don't know why but it makes them more enjoyable and less boring and dull.

example, as I am coming downstairs I might say this out loud, in a Blue Peter voice as though I am explaining all my actions to a child:

Right, when I get to the foot of the stairs I will pick up that tea towel that's been drying overnight on the hall radiator and take it into the kitchen, fold it and put it away. Then I will fill the kettle, get my favourite cup from the cupboard and pop a teabag in. Then I will open the fridge and get the milk out ready....

And so I go on.

Am I nuts?

I commentate on myself emptying the dishwasher in my head like I'm in some sort of international championship -

"ooh the British entry (me) is emptying cutlery first, a bold move and it will appear she's falling behind the pack but she'll catch up with the plates" - (voice of the other commentator) -"Yes the Spanish contestant may appear far in front but she still has to sort her Tupperware lids out it's all to play for".

Its also a job I hate and it makes me do it faster and it's sort of more fun so why not? 😝

user375242 · 25/11/2022 04:14

Nope, don't so anything like that. But I definitely think it is common, I know a lot of people say they act out imaginary scenarios and conversations in their head all the time. My brain just doesn't work like that, I'm not very imaginative.

When I was out and about as a teenager I used to imagine a Crimewatch reconstruction narration of my final moments, in case something happened to me then. Bit morbid to say the least!

😂 I get the 'Michael Burkes' when I see potential for danger (remember "999" from the 90s?!)

"The family had no idea their lovely afternoon cycling/by the railway line/at the beach was about to end in tragedy..."

In all seriousness though, I work with teenagers and some definitely do this, narrating their life as if they're a YouTuber. It's tedious as hell. Please stop.

MiddleParking · 25/11/2022 06:08

I always talk to myself very expressively while getting on with stuff. The worst is if I’m putting the washing out in the garden and my husband knocks on the window laughing at the vicious argument he can see me having with an imaginary person.

Yes, I do this.
And sometimes I imagine someone from the past has time-travelled forward, or is a ghost watching me, and I explain how the world works now to them, about the electricity I'm using and thr hoover and didhwasher and cars and motorways. I think it makes me feel grateful I'm not travelling 100 miles by horse or cleaning the house with a broom and elbow grease.

I like to put all the ingredients in little bowls when I'm cooking and pretend I'm Delia Smith. Sometimes Nigella.

TedMullins · 25/11/2022 06:54

I’m writing a novel. Sometimes I act out scenes from the novel, speaking out loud, playing all the characters, doing different accents. Only when I’m alone in the house! Sometimes when I’m walking down the street listening to music I pretend I’m in a film and the music is the film soundtrack. It’s fun! I’ve done it since I was a kid.

This makes me smile so much. I might start, and it might motivate me to sort out the laundry explosion - I’d take an extreme sports commentary approach, making sure that I’ve overcome many obstacles to get here today, and with sheer grit and determination I will triumph in the end Grin (& reward myself with a nice cup of tea)

Brigante9 · 25/11/2022 14:25

I tend to tell the dogs eg 'I'll just pick up this chewed up toy you've left, shall I?' or 'Wait, I'll just put these in the dishwasher then I can sit and get snuggly with you'. I'm hoping this resonates with other pet owners and I'm not actually mental!

LT2 · 25/11/2022 14:42

@Brigante9 my OH and I also add in what we think the cats would say in response🤭

IHeartGeneHunt · 25/11/2022 14:42

@Brigante9 no I do that too. My dog is congenitally deaf so I'm certainly more of a nutter than you!

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2022 14:44

I pretend I'm an actress sometimes!
A really rich famous one of course ..

Somanysocks · 25/11/2022 14:50

I'm so glad I'm not the most nuts person out there.

Me too, it’s such a relief to discover I’m not as crazy as I thought I was!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/11/2022 14:57

I do the crime watch type ones 😂

Or pretend I'm being interviewed by a detective in my head 🤨😂

I must be mad!!

GimmeBiscuits · 25/11/2022 14:59

I crawled up the stairs today. It's fun.
Sometimes, I pull faces at myself in the bathroom.

LemonDrizzles · 25/11/2022 14:59

When cooking, absolutely. It's almost a little brain trick though to help combine all the useful tips I've picked up and remind myself to do them!

Mil says I sound like Delia when I explain any dish to her!
