Do you do weird stuff like this?

I'm curious because I've just been took the piss out of after admitting to my friend: I often 'act out' in my head that I'm vlogging (going on social media and updating followers about my day/general life updates). I won't speak aloud but I'll recite it in my head as if I was updating followers about my life BlushGrin

There has to be other people out there who doing weird stuff along the same lines? (I hope)? Grin please share!

When I'm on my own I resurrect old arguments or disagreements in my head and replay them out loud with (obviously) me winning them with my razor sharp wit and quick retorts. If DH overhears me I pretend I'm singing.

If I'm due on, the more petty and trifling disagreements seem to surface!

I also talk to cats I see. I definitely will be mad cat lady when I'm a bit older! 😂

When I'm in the car on my own I sometimes interview myself as if on tv and I have a very interesting life. (I don't)

I also say thank you to cash machines and photocopiers. I would thank printers too, but I hate them so I don't.

GimmeBiscuits · 25/11/2022 19:29

I also respond (sometimes with innuendo) to songs if the lyrics are sung by someone I fancy. I don't do this out loud when DH is home.

You’re all basically referencing maladaptive daydreaming. Very healthy to do, and very common.

Autumnalleavestime · 25/11/2022 19:36

I mean this gently, but are you lonely or feel ignored in real life ? This is the only reason I can imagine to think of speaking to imaginary friends or audience in your head,

Surely everyone talks to themselves in their head? We might not all have the same script but to me, it's just natural.

When I'm running I like to pretend I'm either in a music video or in the tv coverage of the London Marathon.

SouperNoodle · 25/11/2022 19:53

I argue with people in my head.
Last week I was having a daydream argument with a lady who had (in real life) driven like a prick.
In my fantasy, I was like "you're a f*cking psycho. You need help" and then I kinda snapped to reality and realised I'm the crazy one for arguing with people in my mind 🙃

Somanysocks · 25/11/2022 19:55

@SouperNoodle no, that's perfectly normal.

I tend to tell the dogs eg 'I'll just pick up this chewed up toy you've left, shall I?' or 'Wait, I'll just put these in the dishwasher then I can sit and get snuggly with you'. I'm hoping this resonates with other pet owners and I'm not actually mental!

I also do this. But I take it one step further because I talk for my dog talking back, if that makes sense. I even have a special voice for him

Ivylight · 25/11/2022 19:57

I do something similar, not as though I'm an influencer but as though I'm a character in a novel or short story. Especially more melancholy moments. Sometimes snaps me out of them as it's a bit ridiculous! Sometimes it's in the third person. It's weird it's not conscious really, when I notice I often stop.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 25/11/2022 20:09

DD10 was in the shower the other day pretending to do a YouTube video about her shower routine - what shampoo she used, how she washed her hair etc, it was so cute! I do it with boring tasks sometimes or when I'm doing my makeup, but as a kid/teen, I would always pretend I was in a movie 🙈

Buzzinwithbez · 25/11/2022 20:39

I used to pretend I was Loyd Grossman showing people around when I was younger. "Now who would live in a house like this?". These days my head is just too full on the whole to have space to entertain myself in this way. I miss having the headspace.

ScarierThanBoo · 01/12/2022 00:56

Sometimes if I'm following a recipe with many ingredients I'll pre chop everything and put them in wee bowls, a long with tiny bits of herbs and spices in mini ramekins a la Delia Smith, before getting on with the cooking process. There may be some strict Delia esque observations made as I go. Nobody will ever ever know this.

ScarierThanBoo · 01/12/2022 00:58

I've just read more posts and I'm happy to confirm that I talk to my cats and dog ... and I reply for them in their voices. Not mental. All fine.

Kittylickingplate · 01/12/2022 01:10

The 'conversations' I have had with my MIL would curl her hair. In real life I am ever so polite but I have ferocious arguments in my head. 😂

When I was out and about as a teenager I used to imagine a Crimewatch reconstruction narration of my final moments, in case something happened to me then. Bit morbid to say the least!

One of the reasons I'm super polite to bus drivers is so in the reconstruction of my death, they'll remember that nice lady who said thank you and wished them a good night etc. Even if they just drive past I always go for eye contact if it's dark

Not blogging stuff altho I used to when I was younger (well tc, blogging didn't exist.. M) but I'm constantly having conversations in my head about what I'm doing, did, should have done, plus imaginary men I might fall in love with one day (if DH leaves me 😂). I think it's perfect normal to have another most exciting life in your head.
