My three year old has picked up some words and phrases from our builders....

I'm having an extension built. My son sits for hours watching the builders work. He's absolutely fascinated.

But it looks like I've let him watch them for too long without intervention. He's started to talk like a middle-aged builder.

Over the weekend, my brother visited and asked DS how he was. DS replied "Can't complain, you know how it is"

Later, we were eating tea and DS asked if he could have a Radox bath to "soak his aching bones"

I've just been told that when one of the nursery staff greeted my son this morning, he replied with "Alright geezer" and has been calling other kids at the nursery "mate" all morning.

The builders only started on Monday. They're likely to be hear for another six weeks. By the time they've finished, I think my DS will be carrying a quote book, a pencil behind his ear and doing that sucking-in-air noise that builders do before they hit you with a giant problem.

Obviously NC for this because its very outing.

Our builders were Polish - both our kids could sing several Polish pop songs by the time the work was finished!

SurpriseSurprise · 12/09/2022 12:45

This has made my day!!! I too was expecting him to have told someone they were “f-ing joking” or something!!

MaggieFS · 12/09/2022 12:46

Love this. My youngster made friends with a Scottish boy on holiday and came home saying 'oh my God' in perfect Aberdonian.

The current phrase du jour is 'I need a breather' Grin

There have also been repetitions of choice phrases with the correct intonation in the past, fortunately they don't last!

Keep them practicing.

You never known when their Polish song singing ability will come in useful...

My husband is a builder and he doesn't do or say any of those things and neither do any of his colleagues.

Soubriquet · 12/09/2022 12:50

That is hilarious. And so adorable too

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 12/09/2022 12:50

Dd once called our milkman daddy.
Turned out he had 5 dc on his round. His dw either was blinkered or turned a blind eye.
He was no oil painting but had a real twinkle in his eye!

NCFT0922 · 12/09/2022 12:50

Encourage this! He could make a lot of money when he’s older.

stealthninjamum · 12/09/2022 12:52

What a lovely thread, Placemarking because I expect updates!

When he starts getting between 12-15 points on Popmaster, can you please send him round to my house as he will be a fully qualified builder. Thanks in advance.

Omg I didn’t realise this was a thing, my dad is a plasterer and is the mildest, most easy going bloke you’ll ever meet… unless you talk through Popmaster xD

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 12/09/2022 12:57

Aww that’s adorable!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/09/2022 12:57

I want you to tidy up those toys please

sharp intake of breath - wont be done until at least Christmas Im afraid

Brilliant!

He sounds really cute.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 12/09/2022 12:58

Mystery solved, then, your DH and his colleagues aren't the ones doing my extension. Good detective work.🕵

This is most definitely a thing. I've had lots of work done on my house and Popmaster has been a constant for all the trades.

On Tuesday (day after they started), I offered a brew at 10am and they asked me if I could make it 10:30am so it'd be timed with Popmaster 😅

Love this! They do pick up random things.

My 5yo DS has started saying he's old and complaining his knees are hurting him when he's walking up the stairs thanks to DH 🤭.

bigbluebus · 12/09/2022 13:14

Has he said "milk and two" yet when you've offered him a drink?

Thank goodness you haven't got roofers or scaffolders in. They seem to be incapable of stringing a sentence together without putting the F word in at least every other word. And they also think nothing of discussing their latest sh*g from the rooftops shouting over the radio. I may have had more than one conversation with said trades telling them to tone it down.

Pompom2367 · 12/09/2022 13:16

This is brilliant op

HardStareBear · 12/09/2022 13:18

This is my favourite thread in weeks 😂

Insideallday · 12/09/2022 13:19

Ah that’s too cute and very funny.

@Iamblossom don’t think anyone mentioned your husband

murasaki · 12/09/2022 13:22

Marvellous. I expect tutting and I wouldn't do it like that come bath time.

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/09/2022 13:22

Has he got a builders bum?

Mulhollandmagoo · 12/09/2022 13:25

This is brilliant!!!! gave me the smile I needed today, your son sounds adorable and your builders seem really sweet too!

Mizydoscape · 12/09/2022 13:26

Glad you haven't got sweary builders in OP! I try very hard not to swear around my 3 year old but we have very barky dogs in the houses behind us and when they started barking yesterday my DD said with a straight face "Mummy, I can hear those sucking dogs again". Yes with the s but the intention was there. I must be more careful!

mossberry · 12/09/2022 13:26

My 3yr old dd told her dad last week 'it's been a long day', accompanied by a long-suffering sigh. She's clearly been spending too much time with my 68yr old mother 🙈😂
