Where were you when you found out The Queen had died?

I always found it fascinating when my parents could pinpoint a particular period in time when someone famous passed away. I was young when Princess Diana died and so don't remember anything about it.

When the Queen died, I was at my favourite hotel abroad. My husband told me at dinner.

The hotel had beautiful tributes around the lobby within hours, the theatre had sky news playing on a massive screen and the flags outside were taken down aside from the Union Jack which was flown at half mast.

Watching my DD play football in the pouring rain. Although I had been following the energy bill announcements in parliament on Twitter earlier in the day, and once the notes got passed around I thought it had happened.

Putting my kids to bed, something she probably never did

As they were your kids, dear, probably not.

In the kitchen watching bbc one - I turned the tv on to watch doctors at about 2 and Huw Edwards was on talking about the earlier announcement, so I spent the day watching it on and off.

Diana, I had just come in from a night out when they announced it on the late night news (I didn’t live in the UK then).

I was in the living room playing a board game with dh and our sons when I had a txt off a work colleague saying the queen did die! We'd had a customer tell us earlier in the day it was on the news that she was not well.

Diana - I had been to Eurodisney and everything getting out of Paris was delayed, then we found out why.
The Queen - Skegness Butlins- in the amusements when they made an announcement.

At a wedding 😕

SuperlativeOxymoron · 11/09/2022 21:20

Sat on the landing outside the bathroom talking to DH while he had a poo. The notification came through on my phone and I just read it to him.

Furrbabymama887 · 11/09/2022 21:21

On the couch watching BBC news.

In exactly the same building about 3m away from where I was when my mum died earlier this year.

It took my breath away.

Wrestling a nappy onto my toddler after the kids bath time - husband called upstairs to say she'd died so we all sat in the living room and watched the news.

BooksAndHooks · 11/09/2022 21:37

I was in IkeA. We had immediate and shed about going but had heard on the news no announcement was imminent.

I had expected them to announce it in store or something but nothing. I had no signal so it was my husband who told me as he received a WhatsApp message.

Bluebellbike · 11/09/2022 21:37

I was at home when the queen died. Expecting it as I had heard the news in the morning.
When Diana died it was my son's 1st birthday party. His godmother and her daughter arrived early in the day and told us.

PlanetNormal · 11/09/2022 21:38

At home, watching the telly. I WFH, so I had been following it since the announcement about her health dropped at 12-30. It was completely obvious by mid afternoon that she was already dead, and that the back-attired broadcasters & politicians knew this, but they weren’t allowed to tell us until the appropriate preparations had been made.

drkpl · 11/09/2022 21:40

I was in a cocktail bar with work colleagues. A colleague announced it. It’s all we talk about all night. Everyone was very sad

LadyCluck · 11/09/2022 21:40

Sat on the sofa with my children. DH didn’t say anything- just showed me the headline on his news app.

Ihaveanoldiphone · 11/09/2022 21:41

On the sofa watching bbc news, knew it was coming so we were just waiting, was still a shock though, I remember gasping

CatNights · 11/09/2022 21:41

On the throne

At my son's 9-a-side final football training before the start of the season. They stopped for a minute's silence, although the start of the season this weekend hasn't happened now.

XenoBitch · 11/09/2022 21:42

I was feeding my dog. I had TalkTV on, so it was Vanessa Feltz that broke the news. She barely held it together.

FuckKnowsMate · 11/09/2022 21:44

Kfc drive thru

Crikeyalmighty · 11/09/2022 21:44

Checking in to premier inn Gatwick ,

MummyInTheNecropolis · 11/09/2022 21:44

On the bus on my way home from work, saw a news alert on my phone.

When Diana died, I’d woken up and put the tv on to watch saved by the bell, and found news on every channel. I woke my mum up to tell her and she was adamant that I must’ve got it wrong and it was probably the queen mother that had died. Had to put the radio on in her room to convince her I was right!

Whatafool123 · 11/09/2022 21:46

At a tax seminar. Someone in the audience told the speakers and they held a minute's silence. Not sure people's concentration levels were the same afterwards.

With Diana, I was coming back from a holiday in New York. We heard about the accident on the plane, and then her death was announced on the radio in the taxi. Very shocking.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 11/09/2022 21:47

On my sofa

popandchoc · 11/09/2022 21:51

In the kitchen making dinner and watching the news.
