DH is absolutely amazing and at the moment is on the front line of a new kittens poo patrol.

We are not flush but his one main passion is formula one.

What could we get/donfoe for him?.
I was thinking tickets? Or what?

If you loved f1 What would you appreciate?

What does he love about it? My husband used to but he was interested in the cars so he had lots of obscure books about motor engineering and the like. But that's not everyone's cup of tea. Is there a particular era he likes?

scissorsandsellotape · 10/09/2022 23:54

Okay. So who does he support?
Do you want tickets or a driving experience? What is your budget

melody1771 · 10/09/2022 23:54

F1 museum is a good day out.

purpleboy · 10/09/2022 23:55

Going to a race! There is no substitute for that.

WanttoFindWorkLifeBalance · 10/09/2022 23:59

What's your budget? Race day at Silverstone is great but v expensive. Worth looking to see what the teams offer - I've been to a race day at Williams which was great - www.williamsf1.com/experience-centre

Tickets for the Grand Prix, but they are incredibly expensive.

Tickets for qualifying on the Saturday are also good, and less money, but still quite expensive.

weekendninja · 11/09/2022 00:16

You could go on the Saturday for qualifying.

I took my DS this year for practice day only - just to dip our toes. We LOVED it.

I'd imagine qualifying is more reasonably priced that race day.

I paid extra for inside trace and it was an excellent experience...not just the racing but seeing the drivers arrive to the track.

We're going to head to Europe for a whole weekend next time due to cost.

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 07:37

Yes I was thinking about going rather than a book.

Or the driving experience.
Going on a qualifying day is an excellent idea.
I assume I've missed Silverstone this year?

Mercedes Benz World do driving experiences.

bestbefore · 11/09/2022 07:52

They've just realised tickets for next years one. Don't know how many tickets are left

Petronus · 11/09/2022 07:55

I would like to go to silverstone on the GP weekend. Doesn’t have to be the race. Qualifying would be great, id be happy with free practice too. Silverstone was in July and will probably be a similar time next year. I wouldn’t be bothered about a driving experience, but your dh may feel differently.

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 07:56

How do I look cor ticket? At Silverstone itself? @bestbefore

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 08:02

So I've looked at Silverstone, it doesn't look like any tickets on sale yet,I've signed up for updates and it looks like 119£ for general admission on Saturday?

I bought my partner a piece of artwork a bit like this. It was his favourite F1 racetrack Monaco. The one I bought was wood and I got it professionally framed . He loved it

Tickets go on general sale this Thursday. Not released yet

We booked for Silverstone Qualifying, and it’s a really exciting experience, especially if you’re a fan. I ended up going, as another family member unfortunately couldn’t make it, and even I enjoyed it! If you look at the Silverstone website, you’ll see all the various packages and prices, some of which are eye-watering. Race day is obviously the best, but qualifying is a good compromise if price is an issue. We just went for general admission, the cheapest, which was fine. but if you do that make sure you take folding chairs. It would be a long day without somewhere to sit! Was so glad we did. Arrive as early as possible, so you have time to have a wander to decide where you want to sit. Don’t forget to book parking if you’re driving. We used the Park and Ride option which worked fine on the way there (driver got lost on the way back!).

CrazyHorse · 11/09/2022 08:11

My DH is an F1 fan, but prefers to watch the race on TV, rather than live, as he says he sees more (it saves us a LOT of money! Grin) He does like a track experience though, and F1 art (which is now all
in his office as we don't have the same taste). This year for his birthday I got tickets for him and DS to go to Goodwood Festival of speed.

I think he's been to the qualifying at Silverstone a few times, as a social event (can you tell I don't pay much attention?)

gogohmm · 11/09/2022 08:22

I bought my dad a lap around Silverstone in a Ferrari, bought it via group on and was very reasonable (a while back) also went to the museum.

If he likes racing, it's possible to see lower level racing cheaply - we go to the bikes mostly and it's £20 for all day

bestbefore · 11/09/2022 08:32

@Mosso ah sorry, my DD was talking about ticket prices so I just assumed it was on sale! Anyway not long to wait.

VioletTopaz · 11/09/2022 08:38

If he loves F1 buy him a Sunday only raceday ticket.

VioletTopaz · 11/09/2022 08:40

I just had a quick look and it looked like £250 for the cheapest grandstand tickets. Expensive, but it’d be a fantastic experience! I’m not sure about parking etc as a PP said. Have a look at the FAQs.

Cats23 · 11/09/2022 08:41

I personally would never book the driving experience again!
I bought one for Dp at Sliverstone years ago(Huge F1 fan)- it cost a fortune and he was in the car for maybe 25mins max- Top speed he was allowed to reach was 80.
Waste of money

tune · 11/09/2022 08:45

I was at qualifying this year, my first time and prob only time as my dd was dancing at it. I would say bring waterproofs, a camp chair and a huge big load of money as it's VERY expensive! £50 for a cap! You can take your own food though. I had a great day though really enjoyed what I could see.

This!

As a lifelong F1 fan, the race is THE experience. Practice days or qualifying aren't even close. I don't have the words to explain just how sub-par they are compared to being at the actual race itself.

If you're going to do this, get him a ticket to race day. The cheapest ticket is fine, especially for a first time visit.

You might also want to consider races overseas rather than Silverstone as some races are much cheaper to attend than others. If you timed a holiday with a race, it can actually work out as better value. Particularly if you go to a street circuit where you can sometimes get away without needing a race ticket at all but still enjoy the crazy madness of the F1 experience (I'm thinking particularly Singapore and Monaco).
