DH is absolutely amazing and at the moment is on the front line of a new kittens poo patrol.

We are not flush but his one main passion is formula one.

What could we get/donfoe for him?.
I was thinking tickets? Or what?

formula1.com

Have a look here. They sell tickets, merchandise etc

Cloudonthemountains · 11/09/2022 09:02

Hmmm. I'm going to disagree with some on here. Compared to the actual races, we found qualifying really boring. So much so, that DC (who is at Monza this weekend) debated not bothering yesterday despite having a ticket.

I think if you want to save money, just buy race day admission. You can get general admission (no seats) or grandstand (seated). Obviously the grandstand seats are more expensive, and go up in price as the view improves. If you get him general admission he will need to find himself a spot with a good view and a screen in the day. Without a screen it really is just lots of cars going round and round and it's hard to make sense of its what's happening elsewhere. And definitely a camping chair. You're higher up for a better view and so much more comfortable.

@Mosso ah sorry, my DD was talking about ticket prices so I just assumed it was on sale! Anyway not long to wait.

I only know coz DH has been moaning about the prices Grin

I bought my nephew a poster from - grandprixart.co.uk/ and he loves it! Brilliant quality

Bluevelvetsofa · 11/09/2022 09:21

Mercedes Benz world at Brooklands do experiences.
Goodwood Festival of Speed.

bert3400 · 11/09/2022 09:24

We are big F1 fans and Silverstone is a great event but very expensive, also look at other European races as they are often cheaper . The Dutch F1 is fairly easy to drive to if you use the tunnel. Maybe cheaper to get tickets for there.

mumofpickles · 11/09/2022 09:24

Another vote for the festival of speed at Goowood. You see lots of different racing there are f1 cars and teams there to look at and its a brilliant day out.

Just found this website

You should check with him before spender that kind of money as it entirely depends what kind of a fan he is.

DP is a huge F1 fan, he has been since he was a child.
we’ve been to Silverstone once and although we had a great weekend he has said he wouldn’t go again, especially on face day, as you don’t really get to see much of the actual race.

I think that's why being in sight of a screen is so important. And of course getting a really good spot. The first time we went was before screens (and smartphones). It really wasn't much fun as we had no idea what was going on. The second time, we took a tiny portable TV if anyone remembers them? We were able to follow everything.

Now, if you're near a screen, and can find somewhere with a view of an interesting part of the track, I think it's a pretty good experience.

Me and my husband went to silver stone for an experience day for his birthday. He drove a bmw m2 and a single seater race car on the track, had a tour around silverstone itself and then I surprised him with tickets to the museum and a session on the f1 simulator. He loved it, I love it, the kids loved it, it was an amazing weekend. I’m currently saving up to surprise him with weekend tickets for a Grand Prix. Going to spend a few grand on VIP tickets.

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 11:29

@KiraKiraHikaru .

Where did you buy that through please and how much was it?

OP posts:
KiraKiraHikaru · 11/09/2022 11:57

On the silverstone website, I think it was 200? Then bought the museum tickets through their own website with the simulator tickets

VioletTopaz · 11/09/2022 13:57

@elizaregina Op £250 was the cheapest grandstand tickets I could find for Sunday only (well £249, but I rounded up!)

I'm looking at going next year for the whole weekend with the kids.

£220 for a 3 day ticket, plus camping. Kids 10 and under go free so that saves me a fortune. I will be looking at the general admission ticket and that allows you to rove around the track but not the grandstands as that was only free for 2 years and under so would have added a fortune to the cost. This ticket also allows access to the entertainment and concerts etc that will be going on.

This will be my first time going.

Tickets on sale on Thursday next week, lots of info here

JenniferBarkley · 12/09/2022 04:59

OP I think also consider what kind of things he enjoys, what kinds of days out etc, and who would go with him (would you enjoy it?). I'm a lifelong fan and I've been to two races (for the other fans on here my claim to fame is that I was at the bottom of Eau Rouge in 1998 for the pileup) but tbh I wouldn't be rushing to another. I'm not one for crowds, queues, bad toilets etc and it's a long old day. You can't follow much of the race if it's eventful (easier these days with phones I guess) and these days you don't even get the roar of the engines.

I'm at the small DC stage and have little time off (see posting time) and tbh for the money I'd rather a night in a nice hotel where I could watch the race in the bar with a drink! Don't know how they compare pricewise but suspect I'd prefer good tickets to Goodwood to general admission at Silverstone.

However, none of that may apply to your DH, and if he would enjoy it, the atmosphere at Silverstone on race day would be incredible.

Netaporter · 12/09/2022 05:32

It’s a lovely idea OP, but I’d second going to the Goodwood festival of speed or the Revival. It’s now replaced the Motor show. You get really up close and personal with all sorts of cars (old and new), there are F1 laps and many more circuit and off circuit events (hill climb etc) It’s cheaper which would mean he could take someone with him for similar money than a general admission ticket for the British GP - personally, I wouldn’t find going to the GP by myself much fun. Bear in mind getting to the GP is a bit of a mission, hotels near by are few and far between so for all the wrong reasons it is a very long day to spend by yourself.

BigBunkers · 12/09/2022 06:36

There is a museum at silverstone now that is supposed to be fantastic if you’re a fan

Cloudonthemountains · 12/09/2022 07:41

I think if he loves F1 racing, then going to the museum or Goodwood would be very much second best. Agree though that you would need to think carefully about the length of the day/the logistics surrounding it and whether that would affect his enjoyment.

sponsabillaries · 12/09/2022 07:59

If you are buying a general admission ticket then also buy him a folding camping chair and a small FM radio to listen in to the commentary. Will you go with him? It’s less fun on your own.

elizaregina · 15/09/2022 13:51

I don't think I will be able to afford going with.

I can't even get on the site, after the initials rush does anyone have experience of getting tickets?

I was hoping for a general admission on race day but I'd also take general admission Saturday
