My daughter would love to travel down to London for this, but time is somewhat limited due to working hours. What day / night would be best to travel bearing in mind queues. Obviously Day 1 might be the busiest? Night time?

OP posts:

Of course the body is in the coffin! It’s more secure in the coffin than it could be anywhere else - solid oak, lead-lined, watched over day and night by soldiers, police, officials, her family, the public…

RoobarbandCustud · 12/09/2022 22:26

@VioletTopaz the government website says not feasible to sit down as the queue will be constantly moving. And you can only take a single small bag so not sure if a folded chair will be allowed. I've got a bad leg too - sadly Im rethinking.

I think it's bit grim if I'm honest. Why are people wanting to get so close?

Why on Earth would someone consider taking a 4 month old to be out in the cold for hours on end? FML people are mental at times- please tell me how it will be of any benefit to a baby?

4 months probably not bad (nappy changing aside). Breast feeding, it won’t be cold, and not crawling yet. I did a 26 hour flight on my own with dd at that age, and she was so portable.

She's in there.

It's not easy to smuggle a body out of somewhere when the world's press, drones, helicopters are watching.

I don't believe they've rolled old maj in to a rug from Balmoral's state room, bungled in to the boot of a black range rover and snuck it out somehow 😳

It would be really easy to swap them over. Close off the venue to the public for 10 minutes, swap the real coffin for the replica, reopen venue. Do the reverse just before the funeral.

Noone said anything about a rolled up carpet🙄

I am certain her body won't be out in public for the majority of the time she is laying in state.

crumpet · 12/09/2022 22:32

Where else would they put her? A lead lined coffin, maximum security, where else would be a better place? It’s odd to think that she wouldn’t be there!

SouthOfFrance · 12/09/2022 22:35

I don't think it's odd to think she won't be in there, I'd say it's a very reasonable assumption.

Of course it's not the most secure place to keep her with thousands of members of the public filing past.

It was a tounge in cheek comment not a serious proposal for swapping bodies around 😳 Apologies obviously tone isn't conveyed in text.

I just personally don't see the point in the faff of swapping her out for a replica. I really don't, she's secure and safe in the coffin.

The security is so high right now around it, nobody is going to get close enough to it to harm it. And as bad as this sounds I genuinely believe if an explosion went off, the coffin would be the only thing left intact in the room! It's probably thick oak, reinforced and lead lined. Practically bomb proof!

The queen's body isn't even going to be in that coffin for security reasons, people are being taken for absolute fools
Is that true that the Queen’s body isn’t in the coffin? Are you sure about that SouthofFrance?

Seriously? Confused Of course she will be in there. What on Earth is going to happen to her in there? What is the security risk? She'll be the most secure person in the entire United Kingdom!! Far more secure than King Charles and the other royals who were walking down the streets of Edinburgh today.

I would very much like to go and am considering arriving into London to queue up on Wed / Thurs evening and through the night with the hope of getting in by the morning so I can go back home late morning the next day.

Yeah @RoobarbandCustud
camping chair idea obviously abandoned!
now pondering other options..!
I’m sure I’ve seen chair/walking stick things… 🤔

TokyoSushi · 12/09/2022 23:04

Back to the logistics! I'm thinking of a change of plan and queuing overnight instead, might this be slightly better?

pagopago · 12/09/2022 23:06

What about toilet facilities for those queuing? Are there any?

elizaregina · 12/09/2022 23:11

On TV there are no crowd's at all around the palace..
I'm finding it hard to see where the crowds are?

Once she's in London the queues will build. Unless people are just not going to go because of how packed London will be.

Indoctro · 12/09/2022 23:14

Well in Edinburgh at moment approximately 30,000 are in the Q and it's around 7 hours waiting time.

I seen a update.

elizaregina · 12/09/2022 23:17

I couldn't physically stand to see the vigil but I'd like to see the flowers, at buck's house but I couldn't risk being held like cattle somewhere,I get panicky and claustrophobic.

They are being filtered through Green Park and are then filed up to the palace through a massive long queue that's fenced off on a side walk / pavement area so you don't really see the queues from above because they're mainly covered with trees. The King has been travelling to and from the palace regularly over the past few days and the roads need to be kept clear. Apparently Green Park under the tree cover is heaving and hard to walk on the grass because of all the flowers

Saw this photo of loos being set yo on DM today. Also has a map showing where the queue is meant to go

People started queueing already. 48 hours in advance

They'll have heard about the expected up-to-30-hour waiting times and be so chuffed that they completely managed to avoid them!!

Zosime · 13/09/2022 00:09

I wonder if they'll be allowing buskers and street entertainers to entertain the queue. It will go past the Globe Theatre, among other places; they should be able to sort out a bit of street theatre.

0live · 13/09/2022 00:16

I went today and queued for 8 hours.

Lucienandjean · 13/09/2022 00:24

The queue is reportedly 12 hours long at the moment in Edinburgh. I would imagine it'll be quieter in the early hours of the morning.

containsnuts · 13/09/2022 10:50

Surprised to see so many people there with babies and young children. They must've been standing for hours and over night too.

workiskillingme · 13/09/2022 11:22

@crumpet if you think an outdoor queue overnight possibly for an entire day is comparable to taking a baby on a flight you are really strange. Sorry but it's like people have gone crazy. Not thinking of their kids comfort and needs so they can feel they've played some part in history
