Is it safe to travel to London on my own?

what is everyone’s opinion on a lone female travelling from York to London on their own to see the Queen lying in state?

my partner and mum don’t think it’s safe which has me wondering

OP posts:
MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 22:28

Yes but do it during the day, I would not do it at night

Central London is heaving with people at night.

Actually, to be fair, I think it’s mean of you all not to tell the OP about the dragons here in London and the fact she needs to bring three pieces of silver to pacify them or they will eat her.

We need the naive northerners to feed the dragons! That's why we tell them it's safe to come.

Hbh17 · 10/09/2022 22:30

Of course it is! I have been traveling to London on my own for decades. I can't believe anyone would question it, tbh.

Softplayhooray · 10/09/2022 22:24

Oh lord they are mental. It's fine OP but don't travel about alone in London at night. If you avoid that obvious mistake you'll have a great time (I wouldn't wander round York at night alone either, for the same reason).

I disagree about not travelling around London alone at night. Literally millions of women do it every day. London is a 24 hour city and at the moment is exceptionally busy. There's safety in numbers.

WoodlandMummy · 10/09/2022 22:31

Are you 5?

LePigeon · 10/09/2022 22:32

Some utterly bizarre threads around tonight. Is there something in the air?

saraclara · 10/09/2022 22:32

@Flubber88 and @LimpBiskit it's not OP that's worried, ffs. It's her mum and partner. Give her a break.

Hbh17 · 10/09/2022 22:33

You do realise that you might have to queue between 12 and 24 hours for the Lying in State? You might need to allow for being away for a couple of days, & book a hotel room too.

Are there really not fast-track tickets?

NiceCupOfTea2 · 10/09/2022 22:35

As in catch the train and tube in the middle of the day? Lol course you'll be fine, what do you think will happen?

WeepingSomnambulist · 10/09/2022 22:36

You w9nt be able to do it in a day. Youl be working overnight most likely. Millions are expected to go, they'll be camping in the queue!

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 10/09/2022 22:37

How silly. I am single and live and work in london. Get a grip

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 22:37

FGS, it's not a blockbuster exhibition. You queue and you wait your turn.

SoftSheen · 10/09/2022 22:37

Some women even live in London, like 24/7... of course it's safe.

Caroffee · 10/09/2022 22:37

Bizarre post. You must lead a very sheltered life.

Snowiscold · 10/09/2022 22:38

SianNotAMan · 10/09/2022 22:34

Tickets for what? There aren’t tickets at all, if you mean the lying in state.

oakleaffy · 10/09/2022 22:38

@namethisbird
Londoner here...Used to wander all over London, walking at midnight through Whitechapel to Bow through the City in early hours all alone, never had any trouble.
Pickpockets on the Tube are a more of a problem nowadays, so keep bags cross body.
They mainly target obvious tourists.
Definitely go!

Thepeopleversuswork · 10/09/2022 22:38

Sweet Jesus no don't go to London on your own. It's full of zombies with sawn-off shotguns. Single women are incarcerated on arrival and used as sex slaves. Have you never seen any of this on the telly? What were you thinking?

RedToothBrush · 10/09/2022 22:39

Jesus wept.

What exactly do you think is going to happen?

Of course it's safe. As safe as you are in York at least.

Newsflash. Its 2022. Women can travel by themselves.

I once went to Australia by myself.

Your family are being utterly ridiculous.

Full moon.
My dog was on her mettle, sniffing like mad..Definitely something in the air!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 22:40

Excuse me, @Thepeopleversuswork . That's only north of the river.

Vapeyvapevape · 10/09/2022 22:40

I travelled to the USA alone, many women travel all over the world alone , I'm sure you'll be fine.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 10/09/2022 22:41

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 22:08

My only reservation is your expectation that you'll breeze into the lying in state and leave at a stated time. For the Queen Mother they were miles long and it'll be worse for HM.

This is what I think too. At times the queue to see the QM were 24 hours long! Best be prepared to be there longer than you planned.

Unforgettablefire · 10/09/2022 22:42

titchy · 10/09/2022 22:16

Your only issue will be that you don't stand a cats chance in hell of arriving in on the first train and making it round the coffin in time to be on the 8pm train that day!

This. Op you really need to book a hotel (if you can get one) you won't be on the train at that time going home.

Johnnysgirl · 10/09/2022 22:42

Millions of women live in London. We're allowed out on our own.
