In the midst of all this gloom - what's making you happy today?

From the mundane to the important.

Mundane - My Who Gives a Crap order is on it's way and it's got limited edition wrapping paper this time.

Important: DD started a new school for 6th form and she loves it and seems to be starting to make friends. I feel very relieved because she might not have!

So lovely to read of other people's contentments. Many are simple but no less important for that.

Sparklythings1 those first steps are the best. I hope you caught it on video

My holiday was cancelled due to DH being unwell so struggling to find much positive but I have made progress with ds2’s crochet blanket. It’s due to be going to university with him in 2 weeks but that’s not looking likely. Still chuffed I managed to square the circle though😍

Watching my fosterling meet his new parents for the first time today (I might be crying in a few weeks when he makes the move for good though). Seeing the faces of the adults as he reached up and took one of their hands when I asked him to hold a grown ups hand as we neared the road was priceless.

That is stunning!

This morning I cleaned out the kitchen and made a giant vat of chicken and sweetcorn soup. Folded up the dry washing off the line and did a to run. Ask while listening to my audio book which mates me feel SO productive as I'm technically multi tasking. Makes chores feel much easier. Then I spent the afternoon chilling out, doing some crafting and making Christmas presents.

DC (18 and 15) are voluntarily interacting. And have been for hours. No idea what they're doing, a "cooking challenge" or something. Sadly it's on the PS and I'm not getting a delicious 3 course meal Hmm

oh really, he's soon to be going too? You are incredibly strong. I'd still be a mess over the other one having just gone (have you had much bed/many visits?) especially after everything with DH. I honestly do not know how you do it! Much admiration xx

Have you any other fosterlings lined up? Or are you stopping after this one ?

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 10/09/2022 20:21

Mundane: washing on the line always makes me happy (but sad I know!)

Important: all the good things on this thread & a nice thread bar one or two horrible posters.

Marmite sandwiches instead of proper supper.

FourChimneys · 10/09/2022 20:24

Marmite sandwiches is a proper supper. YABVVU to say otherwise 😂

dementedma · 10/09/2022 20:24

Had a fire in the garden to get rid of cuttings and it smelt lovely.
clean bedding on tonight and dh working overnight so nice clean bed all to myself

Mammma91 · 10/09/2022 20:25

I passed my driving test yesterday and bought my first run around car.
I’m feeling extra proud of myself. Although equally sorry for myself because I’m working until 1am and I’m hungry and tired 😩

thefatpotato · 10/09/2022 20:26

Spending the evenings pottering around our new house and really enjoying doing some proper cooking in the kitchen, which is a huge step up from our old kitchen. It's a beautiful house and I feel so, so lucky it's ours.

Thank you!😍

Its far from perfect but I’m pleased to be getting there.

Buzzinwithbez · 10/09/2022 20:46

Turning off the TV and radio and getting out into nature is a good recipe for avoiding societal gloom.
Sending lots of love to anyone that's personally having a hard time.

Some elderly neighbours walked past, complimented my trousers and made an irreverent joke about the queen.

Also, spontaneous camping trips and a wonderful day spent in the sun on the water.

BluOcty · 10/09/2022 21:08

Honestly I've been following the updates from Ukraine where a counter offensive is going extremely well, and Russian forces have retreated from 1000km of territory. What a nation. I'm in awe of them.

He will go in October if all goes well. I might take a couple of weeks off then I will be ready to start my next fostering journey, I am thinking of branching out into parent and child fostering as well.

We saw little Dot just the other day, things are going nicely for them all and it was lovely to see a happy family unit.

GigantosaurusRex · 10/09/2022 21:39

DS has had a friend over for a playdate, I dried two loads if washing outside and I've started on the pinata for DS birthday party.

@DontKeepTheFaith That's amazing!

sunshineonroses · 11/09/2022 09:19

I've found six four-leafed clovers in a big clump of clover hiding away at the back of my garden. I'm researching how to preserve them to give as gifts if someone I know needs a little pick-me-up. I'm glad I was too lazy to mow the lawn last week!

MeanderingGently · 11/09/2022 09:25

I have a day off work. I hardly ever have days off and even those are very rarely at a weekend. I've had a lie in and will be able to attend Harvest Festival this afternoon.

And tonight, there will be Frozen Planet II on TV and a new Simon Reeve programme.....I mean, I'm as gutted about the Queen's death as anyone but the relentless coverage of it all is already getting a bit much, it will be nice to have a change....

Bearsan · 11/09/2022 09:40

I'm packing for our holiday in Spain next week 🏖️

Bestcatmum · 11/09/2022 09:43

I bought an upright hoover which has made me very happy. I'm tired of lugging the heavy Henry up and down the stairs.
My David Austin roses are all still flowering like mad.
I'm looking at my calendar and realised that every weekend from now until October is booked doing roadtrips and fun things with my friends.
