I hate Sundays

I'm trying to switch things around so sundays aren't a day of stress and misery.
Kids are doing homework today.
Uniforms are being done now
I'm shopping today for an easy dinner tomorrow and packed lunches for the week.
Is there anything else I can do to make tomorrow restful and calm?
What are your typical sundays like?

Sundays are chill days roast dinner with some pudding and custard yummy

Doingprettywellthanks · 10/09/2022 11:39

I have to say - I love them.

i go for a run in the morning.
my son then has rugby. My younger two and I watch
come back and they go on screens whilst I do lunch and listen to my audio book
Eat lunch
Long walk (despite their protests they love as we go to different woods and have a real romp)
back home for any finishing off homework and pack bags and put in car
then dinner and film

love love love it. Single parent and it’s all very chilled

The key for us - is outside and inside

a day inside - we would hate by the end of the day and all feel restless

HelpMeGetThrough · 10/09/2022 11:49

Wash all uniform Friday night. Organise school bags and shoes at same time. Pack all the bits in pack lunch bag that don't need to be kept cold etc. Finally check all school Diarys and mine add what's needed to my list or order for delivery.

Saturday morning Homework and hang uniforms up in rooms with knickers, boxer and socks ready. Check homework has been done. Go shopping for food for the week or get it delivered on a friday night/ early Saturday.

I think your aversion to Sunday is a manifestation of a general unhappiness with…. Life.

It is not Sunday that is the problem. What’s Tuesday like? Saturday? Does any day bring you joy?

GhostInTheCoffeeMachine · 10/09/2022 13:38

"It is not Sunday that is the problem. What’s Tuesday like? Saturday? Does any day bring you joy?"

Yes saturdays! Smile I realise that it's my lack of organisation that causes the stress so I'm trying to address that.
I'm also not good at going to bed early and feel too tired to organise myself well. Trying to improve that too.

Stop ironing. It's a top tip. No-one in the history of mankind has been on their death bed thinking 'I just wish my clothes had been less creased'. It doesn't matter.

When I was a child I hated Sundays, they seemed stressful days. The adults were stressed so that filtered to the kids.
I often find if i have stuff I don't want to do if I leave it it makes the situation worse, e.g not only do I dread the task thst needs to be done but the time before the task is tainted too.
Is there any way you can enlist help from others? I heard on the radio that gettin a good(early) night is not missing out on the day but an investment in tomorrow.

I often listen to programmes on the radio on catch up- relives the tedium of some jobs. Re brand Sunday as a day where you practise some self care.

You don’t need to stop hating Sundays you need to get organised, easier said then done but find ways to make your week easier overall then Sunday can be a fun day 😊

online food shopping delivered
put a wash on before bed as and when needed then pop on the airer in the morning
Make a cleaning schedule so you are only doing small bits at a time
Plan something fun that’s free or low cost to do on a Sunday and relax

Delabruche · 10/09/2022 14:50

I used to hate Sundays but then I gave up working on Mondays. Now I don't mind getting everything organised on Sunday because it sets me up for everyone else being at work and school while I have a day off. 😊

Chdjdn · 10/09/2022 14:53

I do the school washing Friday night, food shopping/delivery on Thursday and things like packed lunches and baths and hair washes on Sunday morning so that Sunday afternoon is chilled out and especially Sunday evening is nice.

Doingprettywellthanks · 10/09/2022 15:09

2 hours ironing? Mind boggles. What are you ironing? Surely all school stuff is non iron?

grayhairdontcare · 10/09/2022 15:46

Uniform
Homework
Housework
And all other dull stuff done Friday night .
Weekend are for relaxing and getting out and about

Givr it up its the best feeling ever. Such a waste of life.

woodhill · 10/09/2022 15:57

I'm not keen either as I have to go to work on a Monday and feel so depressed

JubileeTissues · 10/09/2022 15:58

Stop ironing
Stop going shopping
Do a meal plan and order shopping online to be delivered Friday.
Do the washing on Friday.
Fold and put it away on Saturday morning while kids do homework.
Get a robot hoover and set it going Friday morning before you leave for work.

Blickacriss · 10/09/2022 15:59

Ha ironing. Nope. Never, except for weddings/funerals etc

I expect our average Sunday is very different to most. We are often at our hobby on a Sunday, all of us DC included and could be anywhere in the UK. Tomorrow it's a 7 hour round trip. No school to worry about on Monday as DC are home educated so they can have a lazy day on Monday after a busy fun weekend.

JubileeTissues · 10/09/2022 16:01

"Sunday mornings are crap, 2 hours of bloody ironing!!!"

You know that's 4.5 days out of every year. If you include the time you would be asleep it's actually 10 days.

If you do that for 40 years you'll waste over a year of your life ironing.

It's a mugs game. Imagine wasting a year of precious time on that?

ifonly4 · 10/09/2022 16:02

A typical Sunday for me is getting up at 6am for work work, back around 5pm. We've got extra clothes so no pressure to get it all done at weekend, I do washing when we have enough to fill machine in week. I'm doing my food shopping in the week on foot at the moment, but in the past it was done early on a Saturday morning.
