I hate Sundays

GhostInTheCoffeeMachine · 10/09/2022 10:52

I'm trying to switch things around so sundays aren't a day of stress and misery.
Kids are doing homework today.
Uniforms are being done now
I'm shopping today for an easy dinner tomorrow and packed lunches for the week.
Is there anything else I can do to make tomorrow restful and calm?
What are your typical sundays like?

This is funny actually.

I hate having to iron all the uniform Sundays and keep putting it off.

I actually did them all yesterday. Feels better.

lollipoprainbow · 11/09/2022 11:32

Not alone, I've always hated Sundays there's no getting away from the Sunday depressing even if I'm having a nice day!

Decafflatteplease · 11/09/2022 11:47

I used to feel like this but I've started getting more organised which has helped.

Re uniform we have 2 dedicated school uniform / work uniform baskets. One for white one for darks. DC and DH know all uniform goes in there each night

Fri evening all lunch bags go in the washing machine (wiped also in the week) so they are done. Also make sure we read any news from school and make sure we know what's on the following week of different from usual eg different pe kit etc.

Also Fri night first of 3 uniform washes goes on. I do 1 white and 2 dark. So one of Fri night then first thing sat morning either hung to dry or straight in tumble dryer. If hung to dry I finish in tumbler so no ironing. Sat morning next load in washer and again either hung or tumbled. Both those loads will be away sat teatime. We also have dedicated uniform and work clothes wardrobes.

Sat afternoon we tend to go out for a few hours eg swimming, nature reserve, see family etc.

Sun morning strip beds. Do last uniform wash and dry and put away. Get bags ready, polish shoes etc.

Sun afternoon either out again or a nice activities eg baking.

Sun evening nice dinner, and we want everything ready to go for the next day by DC bedtime.

Sounds like a military operation 😂 but 6 of us here so organisation is key! It took a few years to get into this routine but it's working well

Sunday mornings are crap, 2 hours of bloody ironing!!!

@HelpMeGetThrough

Just stop, ironing is 100 percent unnecessary. Also it's expensive and bad for the planet, just hang any shirts.

You strip all the beds for 6 people In one day? Your washing they say must be endless

GhostInTheCoffeeMachine · 11/09/2022 16:22

So, it's all become rushed and stressful again.
I did go for a bike ride so a tick there. Got some chores done this morning. Another tick.
Then ds needed something and had to get to a friends (was arranged all last minute) so I drove him to places. Now mil is coming for dinner too. Fil passed away recently and she's lovely so we try to be there for her when she needs us.
I know some people would take this in their stride but it's just not relaxing for me.
There's always something, it seems.

Yes we do 😁 one king bed, 3 single beds and one toddler bed. We have a 8kg washer and 8kg dryer so it's not too bad. Oh and we don't always do it every week in the colder months 😂

twistyizzy · 11/09/2022 16:35

Sorry I love Sundays. Up at 6am to see to horse and walk dog followed by fresh coffee whilst everyone else is asleep. As they are all getting out of bed around 9.30am I leave for gundog training so miss 3 hours of then lying around the house. Then back home where lunch will have been made, do the bare minimum of Housework, have a Nana nap and supervise homework before back up to the yard.
Lovely lazy tea and couple glasses of wine while husband does the week's ironing before bed. I think Sunday is my favourite day of the week 😊

Wow! Sounds manic! Do you work full time? Best thing I did was stagger bed changes (well not the best!). Two beds on Wednesday. Two on Saturday. Seems like less of a Chinese laundry

extrayoungling · 11/09/2022 16:44

I love Sundays. Long walk, big Sunday roast with a lovely big pudding, always watch a family film in the afternoon and have a proper rest and have something like crumpets for tea and watch a murder mystery before bed.

Organisation is key though. Sat morning for us is the food shopping delivery and washing done followed by clubs etc.

Decafflatteplease · 11/09/2022 16:46

No @Doingprettywellthanks I'm a SAHM but also a carer for disabled DC

SimonaRazowska · 11/09/2022 16:47

My first question is: why is everything your job?

for me it helps to get everyone to do a mad clean and tidy for about an hour every Sunday. After an hour we stop. That makes it manageable

nice cuppa after. Do something relaxing after dinner

Decafflatteplease · 11/09/2022 16:48

We always do a special tea and pud on a Sunday too @extrayoungling the DC always ask what for "special treat" on a Sunday 😂 today is a simple roast with sausages then rice pudding (from a can 😂) and jam / tinned pears

Sooverthisnow · 11/09/2022 16:49

It’s not a popular view on here, and no doubt I’ll be flamed for it but I actually don’t care - if you’re looking for some calm and peace what about going to church?

Creameggs223 · 11/09/2022 16:51

NuffSaidSam · 10/09/2022 13:47

Stop ironing. It's a top tip. No-one in the history of mankind has been on their death bed thinking 'I just wish my clothes had been less creased'. It doesn't matter.

No it doesn't matter if clothes are creased but at the same time no one wants to walk round looking like a lazy slob either.

It's the only day we have a pudding so always have a nice often home made one, been a bit of a tradition since children were born. Love it.

  1. why is mil coming for dinner stressful? And if it is, why did you agree? Who invited her?

2)why is ds doing some homework last minute on a Sunday? And why is he so disorganised that he's only just found out that he needed something from someone else. how old is he? have you talked to him about why he's so un-organised? so much so that you were having to drive him around and it's affecting you?

Why Do you not stand up for yourself more?

Oblomov22 · 11/09/2022 18:08

None of the stuff you've mentioned is stressful. Why can you not just take it in your stride and get on with it?

It seems to be your view of everything, the fact that you find this so stressful that is the problem.

GhostInTheCoffeeMachine · 11/09/2022 18:37

Ds' thing isn't about homework. It was a last minute social occasion organised by his friend and he needed a card. So others are just as disorganised Smile

Well mil coming over requires being driven back and forth and more food is required. I'm sure there's enough but didn't want there not to be, just in case.
And I agreed because she's feeling lonely and down today.

It's probably psychological too as I need to prep for work tomorrow and get through the week. I do get overwhelmed fairly easy I think.
Ive menu planned and got all the food in so that should help.

SimonaRazowska · 11/09/2022 19:24

Do you have a partner? Can the kids help more?

Oblomov22 · 11/09/2022 22:15

He needed a card? So why don't you have a box of cards. I do Or better still I have a pack of folder dividers, or even a piece of A4 paper that he draws his own card.Stick a £10 note in, your done.

Extra guest coming, Get one or two chicken breasts more out of the freezer or a pack of cauliflower cheese or a double pack of garlic bread - all that I always have in the freezer. or anything like that.

You're starting to sound like some sort of martyr. Who just likes wallowing in pity - in making things more difficult than they actually are.

I hate Sundays
GhostInTheCoffeeMachine · 11/09/2022 22:19

Lol I'm not a martyr. Just disorganised and trying to get everything done for a working week, despite unexpected obstacles.
I don't know how a thread looking for tips and inspiration gets me insulted and accused of things I'm not.

OP posts:
Oblomov22 · 11/09/2022 22:34

You are stressed. Over things most of us have already in place, and we don't get stressed, we just get on with it.

How can you not see that as an issue? Have you ever had counselling. Maybe book some.
