Moved into new rental. Shower glass caked with hard water stains. Tried bar keeper’s friend and a scrub daddy many times to no avail.

Equal parts washing up liquid and white vinegar.

Viakol is good

minipie · 09/09/2022 23:34

Viakal, leave it on 20 minutes and then give it a bit of a scrub to loosen with a (non scratch) sponge, then rinse

once it’s clean use a squeegee after every shower

OldTinHat · 09/09/2022 23:35

Invisible Glass. Expensive but amazing!

Tiani4 · 09/09/2022 23:41

White.M vinegar will remove most of lime scale , neat onto a cloth and rub

It's what I use on windows too, to polish up sink taps etc and my bathroom screens and .. and... lasts forever too

You can buy white vinegar cheapest in bulk (2x5L (10L) for £10 ) from Amazon

Tiani4 · 09/09/2022 23:41

Sorry white vinegar no M

PurpleSproutingSomething · 09/09/2022 23:43

Limescale remover, the solution you'd pour in a kettle and whatnot. It's strong so try not to breathe it in, but it gets very stubborn stains off. Then Viakal for keeping on top of it.

The water here is very hard.

GoodbyeErinsborough · 09/09/2022 23:50

Astonish or the pink stuff.

I struggle to find astonish so have moved to pink stuff but it works!

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2022 00:02

White vinegar works like a dream

KateBushyTail · 10/09/2022 00:20

I have tried every single one of these suggestions and can also add dishwasher rinse, buying a Karcher, a tub of pink stuff and nothing has worked!

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 10/09/2022 01:50

@KateBushyTail thats my concern but I will give them all a go!

Lemon juice?

UncomfortableSilence · 10/09/2022 07:31

If none of the above works try HG Limescale remover. It's nasty stuff, wear gloves and open windows, but it works.

EnormousStuffedMarrow · 10/09/2022 07:38

Do all these suggestions work ok on plastic screens as well as glass?

FrankGrillosFloof · 10/09/2022 07:42

Had to scrape it off with a razor blade in a central London rental.

StoppinBy · 10/09/2022 07:45

Scrub it a few times with dishwashing liquid.

StoppinBy · 10/09/2022 07:46

Water staining can etch the glass if it's bad enough so you may not be able to fully clean it either.

DeePlume · 10/09/2022 07:58

Hg professional limescale remover. It's so good!

daisychain01 · 10/09/2022 08:02

If it's a perspex or glass screen, then Viakal is your friend, or Mr Muscle - check the instructions but you should be able to leave it on for an hour or two, scrub off and repeat if needed.

Dont leave Viakal or Mr Muscle on any taps or metalwork for more than a couple of minutes at a time, as it could corrode the metal,

BMW6 · 10/09/2022 08:07

I'm another vote for white vinegar neat on a sponge. Leave for 10 mins then use the rough side of a washing up sponge to get the rest of the residue off.

Neat lemon juice works as well but takes a bit longer - a lot better smelling though.

filka · 10/09/2022 08:09

The old way always used to be vinegar and newspaper - but that was the newspaper where the print rubs off on your hands, I don't think that's used any more.

I second the PP who squeegees every time after you get it clean. I also do that on the tiles. Every bathroom in my Thames valley house has a squeegee.

basilmint · 10/09/2022 08:10

HG Limescale remover is the only thing that I have found that removes long-standing water marks.

Purpleguitar · 10/09/2022 08:24

Also use a metal scourer you would use in the kitchen. They clean limescale off brilliantly. I use them each day in a hotel, and we're in a hard water area.
