Much better than usual I think!

I wish they’d keep it like this.Wink

I usually listen to the radio on a Friday as I'm at home but knew what it would be like. Spotify it was!

Lochroy · 09/09/2022 19:53

Are you fucking joking? All of the radio stations have made me want to top myself today. As if the state of the nation and the Queen's death didn't make things sad enough already, it's been forced on us every second of the day.

It's the first time ever that I have been the one to choose to have Fun Kids Junior radio on in the car.

Pizza Express was even playing dire lounge Muzak at lunchtime. It was dreadful. Perhaps it serves me right for still taking the DC out for lunch as promised.

Seafretfreda · 09/09/2022 19:59

Ha! I thought Zoe Ball had something wrong with her voice this morning, all those hushed tones and the simpering!

@NooNakedJacuzziness - excellent comment!

Simon Mayo on Greatest Hits got it spot on as ever...thoughtful.comments and an understanding of the ripples her death has caused , and softer music ..just right .

At least Wrighty didn't try and do serious mournin'

😂 😂

All the radio stations were the same, even rock stations. So miserable.

Mushroo · 09/09/2022 20:08

It’s got slightly more upbeat at the day went on.

Although to be fair, I tuned in just before 9am to ‘wind beneath my wings’ so it couldn’t get much worse!

Heatherjayne1972 · 09/09/2022 20:11

It’s protocol I believe
sad songs to ‘reflect the mood of the nation’
personally I think we should be celebrating her life not wallowing in sadness

washingbasketqueen · 09/09/2022 20:12

It's actually so depressing. Not good for peoples mental health.

samthebordercollie · 09/09/2022 20:14

The Queen had a great sense of humour. I think she'd have appreciated 'serious mournin' 🤣
Im sure she'd rather have had people celebrating her life rather than enforced sadness for 2 weeks

GreenClock · 09/09/2022 20:17

I’m enjoying the lack of inane yapping tbh. Tedious people ringing in on their way to hen nights etc and squealing down the ‘phone is another thing I’m not missing. But yes, Jennifer Rush is excruciating.

ellebelli · 09/09/2022 20:29

I agree it is depressing.
I switched over to Virgin and although it was softer type music it was better(Ordinary World by Duran Duran-Love it)
Missed Pop Master though

HarrietSchulenberg · 09/09/2022 20:36

Not that Verve song again like when Diana died? I did like that song up till then.

MissWired · 09/09/2022 20:38

It's just about driven me over the edge today - a twelve hour shift of dreary, miserable, teary old ballads and nothing but the same wrist-slitting shit on every station. Eventually it went off and we all worked in total silence for ten hours.

It was making us all depressed. And the same again for the next three days - joy.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/09/2022 20:39

they started this yesterday afternoon, while we were waiting for any news
i had to turn it off!

Arenanewbie · 09/09/2022 20:45

You are complaining about radio 2!
Hits radio was playing sad depressing music all day. Actually not sure if it’s all day as I just switched it off.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 09/09/2022 19:15

At least Wrighty didn't try and do serious mournin'

I'll admit to a guilty snigger at that.🤭

GreenTeaPingPong · 09/09/2022 20:47

I understand how it would be a bit tasteless to play 'I've got a feeling, Tonight's gonna be a good night' or whatever, but can't they just play ordinary harmless songs? There's got to be some middle ground between the inappropriate and endless misery. Most of the sad songs are about ending love affairs anyway, so not really relevant if you listen to the lyrics.

I just turned on Radio 6 music and they were playing a really beautiful Ambient mix. Not depressing!

Fluffyfluffflufffluff · 09/09/2022 20:50

It's horrific. Normally listen to R1. The R-r-r-raaaadio Oooone ident woman has been booted for a whispery somber guy, and every time I tune into the radio seems to coincide with 'Fix You' by Coldplay.

MarshaBradyo · 09/09/2022 20:56

I’m not dealing with it like last time for PP

Just using bbc sounds instead for radio 6

Drove me crazy last time

GG1986 · 09/09/2022 21:01

I was in my car listening to radio 1 and 2 for 20 minutes and it was so depressing!!

Funniest thing I've read for a while.

PuppyMonkey · 09/09/2022 21:08

Honestly I love sad songs so this has been so nice for me. I have no time for Zoe and her darling girls etc, more subdued is my preference.

Serious mornin’ would have been inspired.Grin

Good ol' Radio UKIP.

Was this during Jeremy Vine's Fascist Phone In, Johnnie Walker-Frame's Sounds of Seventy Years Ago, or BFBS's Two-Way Family Treachery?
