The queue typically starts at Hyde Park Corner, so head there to save time.

it’s a wonderful, reverent atmosphere ❤️

The flowers outside Buckingham Palace will be removed later today to a memory garden area in Regents Park. Although I suspect that people will continue to lay them outside the Palace.

That must be what I heard, I bet some of them will be binned during the move too.

HailAdrian · 09/09/2022 14:03

I agree with not leaving shit lying around. I thought most people would have realised how serious an issue waste becomes by now. What's the Queen gonna do with flowers now?

All these people whining about a bit of plastic on one bunch of flowers as a one off, let’s hope you never used disposable nappies for the first 3 years of your childs life then. Plus, you can ask most florists to use paper.

What a ridiculous comparison. Babies need nappies.

Nobody needs to be laying flowers for somebody they never met.

a bit of plastic on one bunch of flowers

If it were just one bunch that would be great. But it's so much more than that.

pattihews · 09/09/2022 14:06

I made the mistake of visiting Kensington Palace several dies after Diana had died and the stench and mess of rotting flowers trapped in plastic was horrible. Felt really sorry for the council workers having to dispose of all the dreadful mess afterwards. If the flowers aren't in plastic they can be composted and something positive will come out of them. If they're wrapped in plastic they'll just go into landfill.

setting up a charitable trust would have been a wonderful idea. What a great way for Charles to start his reign.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 14:11

I agree that an announcement about which charities to donate too in the Queens name would have been better.

caniputthewashingout · 09/09/2022 14:24

Why have so many of you come to this thread to dictate how others should spend their money or pay respects to our Queen? The OP wasn't asking for your advice, simply offering a tip to those going to lay flowers today.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 09/09/2022 14:25

I'm a florist. I've ordered in a ton more flowers to cope with demand. If people want to buy them, I'll be selling them.

I say this every time pearl clutching environmentalists pop up - cellophane ( which is what florists use, plastics come from a different process) is biodegradable. It comes from cellulose and is fundamentally plant matter.

That said, we wrap ours in paper because the recycling process is quicker and more easy to achieve.

saraclara · 09/09/2022 14:30

Imagine if all those 10quids went to a charity the Queen supported. A far better legacy then a ridiculously large pile of rotting flowers.

Totally agree.

DoThePropeller · 09/09/2022 14:34

I read that they will be cleared daily and sent to local schools, old people’s homes etc, any sort toys given to nurseries or children’s ward and remaining flowers would be composted and used to across royal residences. Obvs sure there is still some waste in there but it did seem like there was a reasonably decent plan.

oreobiscitz · 09/09/2022 14:35

@LadyOfTheCanyon

That's good to know

oreobiscitz · 09/09/2022 14:38

@maddiemookins16mum

Why cant people leave a bunch
Of flowers unwrapped? Take the packaging home. Stick it in the recycling

ChagSameachDoreen · 09/09/2022 14:41

Why would you bother? Honestly?

Wonnle · 09/09/2022 14:42

oreobiscitz · 09/09/2022 13:27

All those flowers wrapped in plastic

Why? Why? Why!

Are they stupid?

Do you an answer to that question ?

Wonnle · 09/09/2022 14:42

I get tired of people dictating how others spend their money.

I don't particularly like being told 'no flowers' or 'don't wear black' for a normal funeral. Let people grieve in the way they wish.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/09/2022 14:45

Nobody needs to be laying flowers for somebody they never met

Any more instructions on what people need to be doing or not doing? and an interesting use of the word 'need' there. Perhaps some people do feel they 'need' to lay flowers for HM. Perhaps they even 'want' to. Ever thought of that?

Saynotothefishtank · 09/09/2022 14:46

The King is currently walking outside Buckingham Palace to view the flowers. He seems to find them comforting.

(I expect his helpers can sort out the clear up no problem in due course.)

I which I’d bought some shares in Interflora last week…

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2022 14:52

London florists will be putting their prices up presumably. People will be wanting to chuck them at the hearse in a week or so's time too.

Hintofreality · 09/09/2022 13:31

This!

And if you really must go, don’t be an Insta Wanker and pose for pictures just to show off on social media.

Surely that's the main reason anyone is doing it. There'll be a huge amount of fb and insta posts with people taking cringy selfies and proclaiming how much they have always admired and loved the queen.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/09/2022 14:53

The King

It is going to take a while to get used to this, it really is.
