The queue typically starts at Hyde Park Corner, so head there to save time.

it’s a wonderful, reverent atmosphere ❤️

@Choconut

Im saying its not ok

How about planting some daffodils or tulips locally instead? It's the right time of year, the garden centre near me has all their bulbs on sale.

Oh for goodness sake. If people want to lay wrapped flowers, let them lay wrapped flowers. It's a one-off event and the 'waste' created will be comparatively teeny-tiny next to what most councils deal with on a daily basis.

Did you not see the mountains of rotting flowers and plastic following Diana's death? It will not be 'teeny-tiny' by any stretch and is a waste of flowers, money and resources.
Why somebody (Charles?) hasn't set up a Queen Elizabeth II charitable foundation and asked for donations to that rather these pointless flower mountains hod only knows. Those who want to pay their respects, sign a book, take a selfie, weep in public could still do so without toting plastic wrapped flowers.

Or donate to the local food bank? Or any charity for that matter!

Yes do this instead.

wibblewobbleball · 09/09/2022 13:46

The official mourning guidance says flowers should be laid at Green Park. Flowers laid at Buckingham Palace will be moved there.

roarfeckingroarr · 09/09/2022 13:46

Yes please remove the plastic

whatatanker · 09/09/2022 13:46

Have a think about the environmental cost of all the flowers, too. Many of them will be flown across.

Our king is known to be caring about the environment. I wonder how he feels about the plastic and air miles. If you give a bunch of yellow roses, you do realise that they’ve been grown in a greenhouse, with chemicals and poor working conditions?

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 13:47

I'll donate to charity.
I feel it's sad that the flowers will rot away , but I understand why people want to do this as well.

Oh I dunno. Could it be because his much loved mother died yesterday, he inherited the throne and he's had a few issues to deal with the last 24 hours?

Knockon · 09/09/2022 13:50

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain
the queens demise has been planned for years. The charitable foundation could have been planned in advance and activated, promoted within an hour of her passing by staff. It’s not like charles has to sign the paperwork or put the facebook post up

Toddlerteaplease · 09/09/2022 13:50

Since the Queen was very devout. I'm sure she'd appreciate a prayer for the repose of her soul more than yet more flowers.

Isaidnoalready · 09/09/2022 13:50

Flowers take time to grow and are here already im not sure why everyone thinks it's wasteful to buy something off the shelf it's literally what they are there for

lurchermummy · 09/09/2022 13:52

It's such a wierd thing to do. Agree, light a candle, donate to charity, sit in contemplation in a church but buying flowers is such a waste, they just die and start to smell.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 09/09/2022 13:52

Tbh it's not totally unexpected that a 96 year old in ill health is going to die. This is something that could have been dealt with in advance. I think they have enough staff to ease the burden of setting up a foundation. Or just suggest the charities the queen was patron of. It's not rocket science

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 09/09/2022 13:53

I think the sale of cut flowers is really weird. Buying something that is already on it's way to being dead, and for what really? they do take time to grow, but no time at all to die.

Diana was 25 years ago. These are extremely rare events. I'm generally 100% supportive of recycling/waste reduction but I do think with certain 'black swan' occasions you do just have to let people do what they will.

Well, she did only die less than 24 hours ago. He's got some grieving to do, not to mention the small matter of being made king. You can't just magic up a foundation in an afternoon!

Vapeyvapevape · 09/09/2022 13:54

I think they said the flowers would be removed after a few hours

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 09/09/2022 13:54

See my response to that post above.

Yes, a ready made announcement saying no flowers/balloons etc to be laid but donations to such and such charity would be appreciated. Imagine the funds raised.

Fernie6491 · 09/09/2022 13:58

Apparently the flowers are going to be moved to Green park after 12 hours, (or at least that was what they stated yesterday evening on the rolling news).

I always think it rather a waste to put flowers after occasions such as this, the only people really benefitting are the florists!

O11 · 09/09/2022 13:58

Why not go the full hog and let off some helium balloons too

As PP have said, consider donating to charity instead, one concerned with poverty would be ideal.

Ilovetocrochet · 09/09/2022 13:59

The flowers outside Buckingham Palace will be removed later today to a memory garden area in Regents Park. Although I suspect that people will continue to lay them outside the Palace.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/09/2022 14:00

All these people whining about a bit of plastic on one bunch of flowers as a one off, let’s hope you never used disposable nappies for the first 3 years of your childs life then. Plus, you can ask most florists to use paper.

Treay · 09/09/2022 14:03

All these people whining about a bit of plastic on one bunch of flowers as a one off
Its not one bunch though, with Diana there was between 10-15 tonnes of flowers and other assorted stuff left. Imagine if all those 10quids went to a charity the Queen supported. A far better legacy then a ridiculously large pile of rotting flowers.
